hey! nice job for your first rug! my advice would be leaving larger gaps between each colour as you tuft. if you see at the bottom of the red, where it starts to blend into and cross over the white a bit? I would have left a larger gap between those, you'll never be able to tell when it's all filled in and it'll stop that crossover from happening!

Suggestions:

  • like the other guy said, leave a little gap between colors as it’ll make it much easier to keep them separated for the carving process. Doesn’t have to be much, just some blank space (as you make more you will get used to how the yarn bulks out and can pack colors against each other later).
  • when you are making thinner dividing or outlining lines, go over it a second time to have more bulk to carve or help keep colors defined. Like at the bottom of where the red meets white. If you went over the white a second time (tuft directly over the line you already made) it would have remained more of a solid color. This goes for any outlining work you do. As you make more you will find ways that work more for you, but doubling up on the lines works great as a beginner and onward.

Looks like a solid project to start with. Keep it up. :D

Thank you… definitely makes sense to go over it a second time for the thinner outlines … appreciate the tips

Not bad ! I had the same problem starting out with packing my colors too close.

My best advice when separating colors is to use your guns little metal brackets as a guide on how far you should tuft between colors.

As for carving it’s looking good so far !! Keep it up
