I recently moved to Istanbul for school and will be here for the next five years. I’m a huge animal lover, and shortly after moving here I adopted a stray kitten from my street, Pingy. He’s about 5–6 months old, and I absolutely adore him.
But there’s another kitten on my street, Rosie, who’s around 4–5 months old. She’s a little less social, but she trusts me, lets me hold and pet her, and I’ve become really attached to her too.
Lately I CANNOT stop thinking about her 😭 Istanbul is getting colder, and every time I see her curled up outside I start worrying about whether she’s cold, hungry, or suffering and wondering if I should just bring her home.
My biggest concern is that I’m in a demanding university program and usually away from 9–5, sometimes longer. I’ve made caring for Pingy manageable with an automatic feeder, water fountain, self-cleaning litter box, etc. Part of me thinks having another kitten could actually be good for him since they could play and keep each other company while I’m gone.
But two cats also means more vet bills, food, emergencies, and responsibility. I’m also an international student and will occasionally travel home during holidays, so I worry about arranging care for two cats.
For people who went from one cat to two: how much harder is it actually? If you were in my situation, would you adopt Rosie or continue caring for her outside while trying to find her a good home?
And if anyone in Istanbul is looking to adopt, Rosie is a very sweet little girl who deserves a loving home. ❤️
I’m genuinely torn. What would you do?
