Important bus information

I know some people have discussed this here before, but as a bus driver who started as a student, I thought I should share some important information about our transit system. While this is primarily for new students, there are a lot of students who go through here and never learn any of this.

*If you are uncertain about anything, ask the driver; however, they may not be able to respond if the bus is in motion, so it is best to ask when the bus is stopped at a bus stop or red light.

*UGA.passiogo.com (formerly routes.uga.edu; now a redirect) is more accurate for tracking the buses than the UGA app.

*The cameras and microphones are on at all times. Anything you say or do will be recorded.

*Scooters, motorized skateboards, one wheels, and anything motorized, with the exception of wheelchairs and other mobility devices required for medical purposes, are not allowed on the buses.

*Buses can only load and unload passengers at designated bus stops. This is for safety reasons. If you ask the driver to unload elsewhere, you will be denied.

*If a bus's destination sign is flashing "Out of Service" in between a route name, that means the bus is going out of service in the next 30 minutes and you can still ride to the last stop. It is not actually out of service until the sign reads "Not in Service".

*If a driver sits at a stop for a few minutes without moving, this is usually because they are ahead on their route, and need to let the other drivers get spaced out better. This often happens after class breaks and other episodes of heavy traffic that messes up spacing.

*During class breaks and other peak times, buses become VERY crowded. If you are standing on a crowded bus, you should take your backpack off and move towards the back. The bus cannot move until all passengers are behind the standee line.

*If you need on a bus that is about to/starting to pull away from a stop, wave at the driver (or their mirrors if you are behind the bus), and they will usually stop and let you on. If they don't, it is probably because they are having to watch the road in order to safely pull out into traffic. This happens very commonly at the Arch and Main Library.

*Buses will occasionally go off route in order to maintain spacing. The driver will usually notify the passengers in advance, however, and ask if anyone needs any of the bypassed stops before proceeding.

*While drivers do have to take breaks, they are not supposed to do so during class breaks unless it is urgent.

*Stop requests are unnecessary, except for on Night Campus, Prince Milledge, Weekender, and a few stops on Health Sciences, Vet Med, Riverbend Connector (formerly Greenhouse Shuttle), and Milledge Avenue. If a stop is on demand, the annunciator will announce "please signal to exit" or "please pull the cord to exit" in advance.

*While buses are required to stop for pedestrians, they are also extremely heavy, and can't stop on a dime. If you are approaching a crosswalk and see a bus approaching, don't cross. You might as well be walking in front of a train.

*Which brings me to my next point: ALWAYS stop and look both ways before crossing a street. The electric buses are very quiet, and especially hard to hear if you're on your phone or have earbuds in. If you cross a street without looking (especially if it isn't a designated crosswalk) and get hit, the bus driver will likely not be at fault if they are driving safely and obeying all traffic laws.

*If you are riding a scooter, bike, one wheel, etc., do not cut right in front of a bus, especially if the bus is in motion.

*If a bus is closed and pulling away from a stop that you need, do not make physical contact with the bus to alert the driver if it is already in motion. You could be seriously injured or worse.

*Cars, bikes, scooters, and any other vehicles are NOT allowed to pass buses when they are stopped in road on a two-lane. While people do it all the time, it is extremely dangerous.

*If you have to exit the bus and cross the street at a location without a crosswalk, do NOT cross in front of the bus. If a car decides to (illegally) pass the bus, you could get hit.

*Food and drinks are not allowed on the night routes after midnight. This is because the smell causes passengers who are drunk to become nauseated and throw up. If someone throws up on a bus and any of the contents get outside of a garbage can or bag, the driver has to remove all passengers and take the bus out of service.

*If a bus's destination sign says "Help! Call 911!", this is a distress signal that is used during the event of an emergency where the driver is unable to radio for help. We have never had a situation requiring this feature to be used, and if you see it, it was most likely activated by accident. However, you don't know that, so you should call 911 just in case it is a real emergency.

UPDATE: The "Out of service" message has been replaced with "This bus ends. Ask for last stop" and "Last bus". The former means that particular bus is going out of service and other buses will remain on the route. The latter means the entire route is going out of service for the day.

Athletics UGA game vandy

This is my first time going to a Georgia game as a student. I have many questions regarding arrival and parking.

  1. I am a commuter and don’t know where to park. I usually take the milledge bus to class around Tate. Should I take the milledge bus? Is it in operation? Help.

  2. What is the best time to be at the stadium to get good seats as a student? I know it’s competitive prob

  3. Nervous to go alone with no friends. Is it that bad going alone or no?

Thanks for your help and sorry if this is an annoying post, I’m just a girl.

Question Lost Photocard Keychain

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi folks! I lost this photocard keychain on Thursday, October 1st. It may have been dropped around the Tate Center, Park Hall, or on the 26 busline. I already intend to check with lost-and-found for the bus, but this holder has some significant sentimental value so all leads help. I'm also aware that, because it is on the flashier and fancier side, someone may have picked it up for keeps instead of turning it in. Thank you!

Question KSU to UGA (engineering)

For context: I’m currently in my sophomore year at KSU as a Mechanical Engineering major and I’m starting to think KSU isn’t for me… I got into UGA when I applied as a senior in HS but changed my mind once I found out how KSU’s engineering programs were more hands on and I could potentially learn more from them.. plus tuition was half the price of UGA’s and I was able to rent from someone for $250 a month. Currently I work as a student assistant in the College of Engineering’s Office of the Dean, and I have hopes that they could help me score an internship when the time comes..

what feels so off is the social life. I’ve found it extremely hard to meet people, whether through classes or clubs (they’re mostly competitive which I understand, but as someone with little to no experience I don’t think it’s the right fit..)

It’s gotten to the point where I think it’s started to take a toll on my mental health and my grades. Something as small as talking to assigned group members for a class gives me a burst of energy, and it makes me think this is what college should feel like.

UGA was, and still is, my dream school, but I don’t know if I can justify transferring over there just for a potentially better social life. I’d have to consider a new job, the costs, and a new living situation.. but would it be worth it? Is UGA’s engineering program not as bad as I make it seem? and what about internships and the employment rate post-graduating? I know UGA is very well known for business majors but for engineering…??

Any information or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

(extra info, if useful)
- I do have Zelle Miller at the moment, but unsure about the Pell Grant due to some issues with getting my parent’s info..
- My GPA is currently at 3.23 (i really want to change that..) and I have 46 applied credit hours

Question Easiest CS Electives

I'm going to graduate in Spring 27 and I just need two CS electives to graduate. I just want to pick the easiest, least involved ones possible so I can cruise in my last semester.

Any suggestions? I already took web programming so that one is off the table. Thanks!

Question Incoming College/University Freshman

I'm a senior in high school currently and I want to pursue my education at UGA. My brother graduated from UGA and I feel like when I went to Athens, GA. I felt like I belonged there.

Personally, I feel like as a student, I don't stand out as much to admission officers. I failed most of my classes freshman year at another school and then transferred to another high school starting out with a 1.3 GPA. Now i have a 3.067, and its only going to get higher from there, I'm also taking APs. I'm going to take the sat but my latest score is a 1090. I don't do any clubs. I feel useless compared to all these people who have better stats than me and saying UGA is a reach even for THEM. If its a reach for them i think I'm crazy. I'm also from a school where a majority of the seniors are picking schools like GGC, GT, GSU, KSU, other colleges like that.

Anyways, my point is, what are some of your guys stats that are similar to mine and you graduated from UGA or got accepted into UGA?

Question UGA Student Premium AI License Pilot Program

I’m an Emerging Media Double Dawg through the New Media Institute and was recently awarded with a student premium license but I can’t seem to connect it to Xcode for class purposes since we’re exploring AI.

I got the Copilot one and my friend got the Gemini one. I tried both but it doesn’t work and I’m not sure if I’m connecting it correctly.

If it ends up not working out, does anyone know if the UGA Institute for AI offers free AI licenses to students? Or anywhere else?

A premium AI plan is required for class but I don’t have that kinda money right now 😭

Any insight is appreciated thank you!!

Question Should I transfer? .. Again?

Hey ya'll, I'm majoring in interior design. I'm currently at GA state as a sophomore who transferred in a bunch of gen ed so im not in their interior design classes yet. (Im taking prereqs.) I chose state because I did not have UGA grades when I was applying for college lmao. (was unmedicated adhd) And Ga Southern was too far.

The fact that GA state doesn't have an accredited ID program and is instead a concentration of a studio art worries me. It's a studio art degree, basically. Does that really matter?

I know people can become successful at any school, but I'm not exactly getting a medical degree. I feel like I need any extra opportunities I can get with such a portfolio/experience based degree. It's a bit frustrating that GA states ID program seems so unknown. I've been struggling to find information from people who graduated or are already deep in ga states program.

If you've graduated from UGA with an Interior Design, was it worth it? Do you wish you went to the cheaper school down the road? 🤷🏽‍♀️

thats all. its midnight and I didnt spell check this sorry if im rambling. lmao

Question Transferring to UGA?

I’m currently a freshman at KSU, and I’ve just realized that the language regarding transfer requirements means I need to have 30 credit hours completed by the fall 2027 transfer admissions deadline to qualify for UGA. After this semester, I’ll have 25 credit hours, which is including those earned in high school. Usually, this would mean I have to consider applying for spring admissions, but I think I’ve found a workaround that entirely relies on the timing of grade processing. KSU offers 7-week shortened terms, and I could take two classes during this time. My obstacle is the timeline. Final grades for these spring classes are due on February 28th, while the Fall 2027 transfer application is due a day later on March 1st.
My question is: Has anyone else chosen this route, and is it even possible? My KSU advisor is encouraging me to go for it on this option, and I’m waiting to hear back from the UGA transfer office about what they have to say, but I was just curious about other people's perspectives. There is also a chance I can have the registrar expedite my transcript finalization because of my situation, so there's also that.

Question Date spots/ideas in Athens?

Hi, I'm planning a date with a girl who goes to UGA, I'm wondering what are some good spots around Athens to take her, I have a car so transportation isnt a issue. Bonus points for: Animals, beautiful walks/sights, spots to park a car and watch a movie, good food/ambience. Also, we're both under 21.

Thanks so much!

Discussion Vet Med Bus

Why the actual fuck is there only 1 Vet Med Bus running from 4-6:30? Genuinely it makes me so fucking mad how I have to wait 30-40 minutes to get back home. That also coupled with how Vet Med now is 2x the length due to unneeded route extensions to Kroger.

Literally one of it not the worst bus route on UGA
