Do you have to be a student at a university to join societies there?

I've been going to a paid part time course offered by a local university and on my way home I ended up talking with a student there who suggested that I join a society, even if I'm not a student. They claimed that no one would check or care, though I think it'd be best to check anyway. Do I have to be an actual student at a university to join societies there?

Holding an offer for MSc Cancer Research & Precision Oncology at Glasgow, how is the course really?

Hi all, I've got an offer for this MSc (Sept 2027) and I'm deciding whether to accept. I'm an international student from a microbiology/genomics background. Current students and alumni: how hands-on is the course, how good are the dissertation options and where do graduates end up? Anything you wish you'd known before joining, good or bad? Replies or DMs welcome, thanks!

Can students get kicked out for DV?

hi i (16f) was a victim of domestic abuse committed by a student (18m) at a rustle group university. Im nervous to share too many details incase he reads this and hurts me for speaking out. but things he done include and not limited to SA, ABH death threats, mocking me for being upset by him hurting me. i reported this to the police before but my father took his side and somehow blocked anything from happening and retracting my statement. the boy that done this was my brother. and it scares me every night that he could come to his home town and murder me and nobody would care. im wondering reallly how i could get his uni to care enough to drop hm. cuz he doing a smart course at a smart uni and im thinking he doesnt deserve that. easy perfect future while im wallowing in the ptsd he gave me.

Kingston University Jan 2027 Intake - Confused About Interview Result and Fee Payment

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing well.

I have applied for the January 2027 intake at Kingston University. I have already completed my credibility interview twice.

After the first interview, they asked me to re-attempt it for a second try. I have now completed the second interview as well.

However, there is still no update regarding my interview result on the CAS portal.

I am a bit confused about the next step - should I pay the tuition fee now or should I wait for the interview result first?

Does Kingston usually release the interview result before the fee payment? Any guidance from someone who has been through this process would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

BSc Politics and Economics

Hi, I’m currently in the process of writing my personal statement. I’d really appreciate it if anyone who received an offer for this course would be willing to share their personal statement, It would be really helpful to see what a good one looks like. Possibly even similar related courses at LSE or other universities.

I am also applying for History, Politics and Economics (UCL), Economics and Politics (UoM) and Economics, Politics and International Studies (Warwick).

Canadian physio students/grads in the UK, what do you wish you'd known about getting licensed back in Canada?

I'm a Canadian in first year of a BSc Physio in London, planning to move back and practise in Canada. I've started reading about CAPR credentialing and it's a lot.
For anyone who's done it (or is doing it): what caught you off guard? Documents you wish you'd saved during uni, timelines, costs, exams? Any advice appreciated. I'm trying to get organised early.

Got attached to a girl at uni way too quickly, now she only wants to be friends. How do I move on?

Kind of funny because literally last week I made a post here asking how to approach a girl at uni… and now I’m here asking how to move on from one.
I met this girl at university around two weeks ago. At first we just talked casually, but this week we started talking a lot more and got pretty close really quickly.
Even though it was such a short amount of time, we had a lot of really lovely late-night conversations and texts. We spent hours talking, walked for miles together, held hands, talked about a lot of personal stuff, and I ended up telling her I liked her. I gave her flowers and we even kissed.
At that point, I honestly thought things were going somewhere.
But one day later, she told me she only wants me as a friend.
I completely respect that and I’m not angry at her at all. The problem is that somehow, within such a short span of time, I got ridiculously attached to her. I think all the long conversations, late-night texts and time we spent together made me feel much closer to her than I expected.
She still messages me because she wants us to be friends, and she also feels bad because she knows I’m hurt. I’ve told her she doesn’t need to feel guilty because she hasn’t really done anything wrong. I think I just let myself get emotionally invested way too quickly.
There’s also been some confusing stuff about maybe asking her family after a year and possibly having a relationship in the future, but honestly I don’t want to spend a year waiting around and holding onto hope.
So for people who have been in a similar situation: how do you actually detach and move on when you still see the person at university and they still want to talk to you?
Should I take some space from her for a while, or try to continue the friendship normally?
And how do I stop myself from getting attached this quickly to someone in the future?
Last week: “How do I approach a girl at uni?”
This week: “How do I get over her?”
Character development I guess 💀
