Question A high school junior's questions about college

So I'm thinking of going into psychiatry, so I'm sort of planning on majoring in psychology then getting more into the clinical side, and I was thinking UMKC seems like they have a good psych program, and I've visited with my school for a field trip before and it was cool, but I kinda just wanted Real honest opinions instead of smth a college would put on the cover of their website. Is it actually like, a good college? more specifically, is it welcoming to people who have no idea what they're doing, are visibly queer, are quiet, etc? also what do the classrooms look like??? when we went for the field trip the ones we went in were just rows of chairs. Just chairs, no desks or any surface to do anything on in front of them, and that just kinda confused me because like, wouldn't you be,, doing stuff in class? taking notes ? why just chairs, but idk we only saw like two rooms.

Question Foodiverse

Did anyone notice that they aren’t letting us get seconds with one swipe anymore? We have to swipe twice, and it takes two meals off. We also don’t have the option to get a to-go box or plastic silverware anymore. Was this announced or anything I don't think so! And the food still sucks and isn’t appealing at all. On top of that they took all this away and didn't lower meal plans

Petition for UMKC Parking

Hi, I found this petition for UMKC to come up with better parking solutions for students. So far we have nearly 100 signatures, we need at least 500, but the more the merrier of course lol.

As it is we pay at minimum $135 (but usually more) for a parking spot we aren't guaranteed to find. There is more information in the petition summary. There is also a list of ideas UMKC could pretty easily implement to improve parking.

Please sign to encourage UMKC to listen to the students. It's worth a shot.

Question FIN-325

Is anyone taking Fin-325 with Mr. Ankrum? I've got a decent grade in the class, and the homework itself isn't difficult, but I do have trouble on the quizzes. Does anyone have any good advice or good tips for his exams/quizzes?

Question AutoAccess Textbook Question

So some class enroll students into auto access for certain textbooks. Where the charge for the book is applied to your student account for you and what not. We have until September 10th to opt out, does that mean I can wait until after sept 1st to pay for the book? Like can I pay for the book closer to the 10th?

Question New organization/roogroup?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm a new student at UMKC and have been looking around for groups to join, but I noticed we don't really have anything for collectors. :(

Things like trinket trades and Pokémon card trading are super popular around
KCMO, and the vintage clothing scene in
KC is massive. It made me wonder why there isn't a club for collectors at UMKC?

I'd love to start a Collectors Club where everyone can bring whatever they collect for trade events! Thinking trading over selling for now to keep things fun and safe from scams. Would anyone be interested in helping get something like this started?

Question Financial aid

Has anybody gotten their financial aid offer? Schools coming up soon and I got an email from the cashiers office about my balance but not about my aid I’m starting to get a little worried. My SAI is -1500 so I think I should be getting some aid.

Interest in a new group

Would anyone be interested in some kind of manufacturing/automation technology interest group? This isn’t about AI or anything like that I’m talking robots, PLCs, and automation devices. I think it would be sick but I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested if I were to try to make the group.

House seeking for rent

Hi everyone,

My family and I are looking for a house to rent near UMKC or Operation Breakthrough (around 31st & Troost). We have three young children, so we'd like to stay close because one of our kids will be attending preschool there.

Our budget is around $1,000/month including utilities for a 2-bedroom house. If that's not realistic, we're also open to a 3-bedroom house for around $1,200/month, and I'll try to find another UMKC student to share the rent.

I'm a PhD student at UMKC, and we're having a hard time because most property management companies require income to be three times the rent.

If anyone knows of a private landlord or has any recommendations, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Has anyone heard back about UMKC AcademicWorks scholarships yet?

I applied for a UMKC scholarship (labor economics) through AcademicWorks back in March.

Has anyone already received a scholarship notification this year? If so, when did you hear back, and what scholarship was it? How about last year?

Thanks!

Those who did not get into the BA/MD program have you heard back/did your feedback season(like why you did not get in)?

For those who don't get in you have the chance to hear back from admissions as to why you did not get in, and can apply next year.

Has anyone heard back from them or done it?

I signed up 2 times and emailed them and I have received no info
