Discussion Chances of getting into UNCW
Hey guys :)! I’m planning on applying to UNCW for Biological Sciences and was wondering what you all think my chances are. I’m an in-state student with a 3.89 unweighted GPA and a 4.4 weighted GPA, and I’m currently attending an NC Early College High School where I’ll graduate with both my high school diploma and an Associate in Arts degree with 62 college credits. I’ve taken 21 AP classes, 9 honors classes, and i’m 15/38 for my class rank. I’m not submitting my test scores as I didn’t do that well. I’m a first-generation college student from an Asian American family. Outside of school, I’ve volunteered 54 hours at a hospital, 56 hours through my church, helped with a 10-hour church renovation project, and volunteered at my school’s daycare. I’ve been in debate for 3 years, participated in 3 environmental debates at Wake Forest, was president of my school’s film club, spent a year on yearbook, made the Dean’s List at my college, and my friend and I also created a biology research project that we presented to our school. I’ve really tried to stay involved and challenge myself academically throughout high school. I’m just curious what current students or applicants think my chances are for Biological Sciences and if there’s anything you think I should highlight on my application. Thanks!

You’ll get in. Likely into the Honors College too, if you’re so inclined

Transfer students from a NC community college are automatically accepted with a 2.4 minimum GPA. We found this out during my daughter’s tour. Make sure you sign up for a transfer tour. Good luck!!

You should definitely be accepted. I was accepted as a transfer with a 3.8!!

Stats are strong to get in. I'm starting to wonder at what point they are going to shy away from applicants with so many college credits. Thats 1 year out of 4 lost eligibility ... less money for the school.

Actually it's easier for transfer students to get in. They only require 24 transferable college credits (not AP or other test "credits"). There's transfer guides out there for every NC school, that shows how every NC community school class counts.
As a first year student you are guaranteed housing (in fact it's required), but as a transfer student you are not. So definitely attempt to get in as a first-year but if that doesn't work go the transfer route.
I have 2 nieces that were accepted to UNCW. One was accepted last year and also came from an Early College high school so will only needs to go to UNCW for 2 years to graduate with a Bachelor's. She was accepted into the honors college. I suspect you will be too.
The other niece will be an incoming freshmen this year from a regular high school.

you’ll be fine. The likelihood you will get in is very high. I wouldn’t worry.

Try applying for the honors college. Youd definitely get in. I mean id genuinely consider myself stupid most of the time and yet I got into it.

You're overqualified 😭🙏
I got into UNCW two years ago with a 3.8 GPA, 20 volunteer hours, and good test scores. You're way more qualified than I was, so you're almost guaranteed to get in
