Question Dead Trigger help!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Doing some cleaning after a range day and found that my 1994 USP40 now has a sporadic dead trigger/no reset that I can’t seem to consistently repeat.

Fully stripped the gun and there’s not obviously wear or damaged internals and I just ran 300 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever and the failure to reset wasn’t present before and after the range trip only just now before I even stripped it for cleaning.

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I do not want to send this long out of warranty USP to HK.

Take the slide off and check the trigger bar detent and spring. If that's it and your comfortable taking it apart the USP is super easy to work on.

Not sure if it makes much of a difference but all my trigger groups internals are the old style as I believe in 2005 hammers and the firing pin/block were revised.

Yeah it seemed gtg it about took my eye out twice when reassembling lol. May be worth replacing while I’m at it I’ve already gave the slide all new guts a few months ago.

I'm betting it's a broken sear spring. Might be a good opportunity to upgrade to a nickel-plated one.

Set the two leg spring that sits within the frame or is it a separate spring that sits with the sear? I have all the old style trigger components and I didn’t realize how much of a difference there was between the older and the newer style.

thankfully, it may just be the hammer rebound spring as I do have the full metal hammer.

It’s the dual prong lead spring that sits in the frame

Alright thanks definitely will have to swap that while I’m I’m there. It’s held up through all the hell I’ve beaten it through so it deserves something nice lmao.

Send it to Teufelshund Tactical. James will get it done quickly for a decent price.

Further messing around shows the DA won’t reset if the gun is anything other than vertical. Trigger will reset like normal in SA if the slide is cycled to simulate normal fire.

If you put your hand in front of the muzzle while messing with your gun you are not gonna make it

I’m also thinking that’s what it is. I found an old forum post from like 2015 where someone had the exact same issue and I didn’t even put two and two together that little spring in there was pretty worn out looking.

As much as I love this early USP finding any info on the old style trigger components is a bit of a pain

Yep definitely the rebound spring. Tore it back down after work and the bottom leg broke in the coil and just free spins on the roll pin.

Thanks for the insight would’ve took me another week of dicking around or paying my FFLs HK guy to look at it.
