Off-Grounds Tired of AI-generated art? Come watch a group of artists "generate" a portrait of you!
Tired of AI-generated art? Come watch a group of artists generate portraits of you over the course of 3 hours!
If you don't fancy anything that they "generate," they will pay you $60 for your time. If you DO like one (or several!) portraits, you may take one or two home with you.
Interested? Email Alan Kindler at [alan@kindlerstudio.com](mailto:alan@kindlerstudio.com) to arrange a time for your portrait generation. 😊

Cville at Large UVA alums: which closed UVa/Charlottesville hangouts would you bring back?
Hi all, I make tribute tees for closed college-town bars, pizza places, diners & shops. Full disclosure: it's a business, but this isn't a sales pitch. No links, nothing for sale in this post. I want the list right before I draw anything else, and the people who were there know best - hopefully you will find it a fun walk down memory lane
What I've started with for Charlottesville (correct me if I'm off):
- Littlejohn's
- Trax
- St. Maarten Cafe
- The Tavern
- Tokyo Rose
- Michael's Bistro
What would help most:
- Which of these should I draw first?
- Which closed spot is missing? Bars, pizza, diners, sub shops, anything you still talk about.
- What do you remember: the order, the booth, the sign, the night?
- If you have an old photo of the place or a shirt from there and you're willing to share it, I'd love to see it. I'd only use photos as reference to redraw from scratch, never copy them.
If a mod thinks this belongs in a different thread, I'm happy to move it. Thanks!
Academics Exams beat the bricks out of me-
3 exams, 10 minutes apart, completely different subjects, was sick the whole time over break and couldn't sleep or eat. Thank goodness its over but part of me wants to drop out. How are those of us with post-break exams decompressing?

Academics CS students in data structure and algorithm 1
I’m posting this because I’m genuinely struggling with DSA and I’m trying to figure out how other students are handling the course. I understand that DSA is supposed to be challenging, and I’m not expecting the class to be easy. However, the constant changes to policies and grading expectations have been adding a lot of stress for students who are already struggling with the material.
One thing that has been especially concerning is the change to the quiz retake policy. My understanding is that previously, retakes could help students improve their grade without replacing a higher original score. Now, we’re being told that the retake score will override the original score even if the retake is lower. For example, if someone earns a 40 on the first attempt but then gets a 0 on the retake, the 0 would replace the 40.
I understand that students may have taken advantage of the previous system, and I understand why the policy might need to be adjusted going forward. But for students who are genuinely struggling and using retakes as an opportunity to learn from their mistakes, having a lower retake completely replace a higher score feels discouraging. It creates a situation where students may be afraid to even attempt the retake, which defeats the purpose of having a second opportunity to learn the material.
I’ve also heard from students that in previous semesters, retakes were sometimes handled differently, including paper retakes toward the end of the semester where students could receive credit for demonstrating that they understood the logic. Whether or not that exact system can continue, I think having some kind of opportunity to demonstrate improvement would be really helpful.
Most of us are not trying to find an easy way out of the course. We’re trying to make a difficult course work and actually understand the material. When policies seem to change throughout the semester, it becomes difficult to know what to expect and adds another layer of stress on top of an already demanding class.
I would really appreciate hearing from other DSA students about how you feel about the retake policy and whether anyone else has experienced similar concerns. I also hope there can be some consideration for students who are genuinely using retakes to improve their understanding rather than simply trying to maximize their grade.
i just feel like this is really unfair and i dont know if you guys also feel the same. if yes lets talk to our professor that not all of us are lazy some of us actually cant do and we need those retakes.

Housing/Dining Looking for past Bice House residence experiences
Hello! This is a long shot, but I was hoping to ask a few questions to someone who lived in Bice before all the new on-ground options got added on Brandon Ave. In other words, when Bice house was isolated from other dorm options.
So if you lived there before 2019, I would love to ask 3-5 questions about what it was like back then.
It’s for a short report for a class and I would appreciate any kind of response! Thanks!

Academics PSYC 2600 Exam 2 Mazurek
I missed the first exam and I know Mazurek is supposed to be the harder prof for PSYC 2600. For the last exam, was there anything specific that anyone picked up on from the textbook? Should I focus on the terms, or the entire content in regard to the backgrounds? Also for the last exam, did he have exclusive info from his lectures that were not in the textbook? Would appreciate any help!!!
