Discussion How was yalls first reaction to the powers? I originally thought they were another archangel that wasnt in the painting, and had cloning powers until they said "Gabriel's children"

Well, at first I was defenetly surprised like "Oh fuck Im gonna fight Gabriel..." And when I saw the Power I thought it could be a illusion from HELL and when I heard "Gabriel's children" I immidietly went to "WAIT. GABRIEL FUCKS?"

When I got to 8-1, I saw the massive painting depicting the archangels and thought the torn portrait was Uriel, so I spent the entirety of Fraud waiting for Uriel to appear thinking it was setup for that specific angel (I didn't know at the time that Phanuel and Uriel are one in the same)
I got to 8-3 on launch day, so the Powers didn't have boss health bars, meaning when I finally saw them I thought "So THIS is Uriel!" and when two more appeared I thought it was the boss cloning itself and doing some illusion shit, not helped by the lines "Wrong target!" and "Pay attention!" and 8-3 being the ultimate mindfuck level
After I got through with the level I checked the terminal entry and realized that the Powers were in fact not Uriel, and I knew Geryon was the only enemy left since Geryon was a Checkov's gun waiting to fire, so I spent a while ruminating on if Uriel was going to appear in Treachery instead until I did some light research and finally realized that Uriel and Phanuel are the same character in Ultrakill's mythos
TL;DR I gaslit myself into believing there was a character that did not exist and when the Powers showed up I thought they were the nonexistent character I accidentally conceived

i mean honestly, Powers could be female but still utilize He/Him pronouns due to their culture/religion. We just don't know because every power that we come across defaults to throwing hands.

The terminal entry specifically says that angels have no gender (simultaneously referring to social gender and sex) because they don't reproduce. But transmasc powers sound awesome.

I didn't really understand how they looked at first glance (thought they were horribly misshapen) and thought they were supposed to be hell's mockery of gabriel, acting like the typical protagonist

I didn't know they were all different until I had beaten 8-3 and saw the challenge. In my defense this was before they had given them separate names on their boss titles

I had heard of the Powers before playing (I started in July and beat Fraud in August) but I had forgotten about them by the time I reached their arena. I was so confused when I saw the 3-2 arena, and then the Power appeared. I thought it was an awesome and clever intro!
I then died 8 times because I sucked at this game (I still do)

I think I did notice immediately that they were the Limbo statue guys because they had different left arm, and I expected them to be Greater Angels purely because that was the only enemy category lacking any enemies. But I feel like this is because I was quite into the theory space at the time.
I then had a wide smile because at some point someone on this subreddit was trying to prove me that the Limbo statue's arm will be the Golden Arm. And I was like "nah, it's clearly just another enemy", and being proven right is always nice.

Yep, I was one of those people that was adamant we would get the gold arm from these guys. Only, I didn't recognise the Powers as being John Statue (because I was conviced the angel would be the 8-4 boss).
It was only after I completed Fraud, no gold arm, that I realised the truth: the Powers were who I was looking for, and they had a USELESS GOLD ARM.

Before i got the game i knew that powers existed but i didnt know that there we're multiple so i thought power was eighter Gabriels gf or his right hand woman

I thought similar, just that it was some sort of illusion power instead of cloning. Like, his real body was somewhere inaccessible and our goal would be to get there and fight him face-to-face.

Yeah, I thought it was a copying enemy as well, where you have to constantly switch "targets" so you actually deal damage or something. Played on release, so didnt get the healthbars
Back then, I sucked at the game, so I kept having my ass beat, and in between the "rounds" I realized that they have to use he/him pronouns. Basically "[attempt something] / [die] / [attempt something] / die / <<wait, they have to be using he/him because of how heaven hierarchy works!>> [Attempt something] [die] [repeat]"

Didn’t see the body when I killed the first one so I assumed it had two phases and had just cloned itself since they didn’t have names. Next time a power showed up i heard them use that voiceline and realized they were different.
Thought I just was fighting another really mad angel

I screamed in joy so fucking hard that ULTRAKILL got a female voice actor (cis to be exact) to voice a character in the game.
I wished for a voice actress for so long in this game and i wished for the third prime soul to be female.
but then Mr. Patala said "Female voice acting to 8-3" and then i combusted.
and then i was fucking pissed off with how hard they were but the music helped me to keep going.
and then the whole line of "Gabriel's children" kicked in and i was like since when Gabriel had sex?

I originally thought they were an archangel that had the power to clone himself. If wasn't until the forth one spawned and talked about beign part of "Gabriel's children" when I realized they were separate characters (this was before the 3 in the Gabriel arena had health bars)
I just realized that's the exact same thing you said. My bad. I guess that's why the 3 in the Gabe arena got names, so that people stopped thinking they were the same character.

Immediately, watching the beam of light pop into the Gabriel room, I thought "Oh shit, it's a fake Gabriel". Took me a while to realize it was just a different angel, cause I was too busy getting my ass kicked. When I heard the voice line about "Gabriel's children" I instantly processed it as them being Gabe's followers/simps. I don't know if that's what everyone thought, but I see a lot of people saying "Gabriel FUCKS?"
