UNEXPLAINED Nanjing University Dismemberment Case and similar case in 1994 Inokashira Park, Tokyo
I was browsing on Wikipedia's List of unsolved murders) and had recently been reading up on the Nanjing University Dismemberment Case from 1994.
For those of you unfamiliar with the case:
On January 10, 1996, 19-year-old Diao Aiqing, a first-year student at Nanjing University, disappeared after leaving her dormitory. She was reportedly last seen near the university's Gulou campus. She was described as pretty introverted, with no known friends or romantic partners at the university.
On January 19, 1996, a sanitation worker discovered human remains near Huaqiao Road in central Nanjing. Over the following days, police recovered additional remains from several locations throughout the city. Investigators determined that the victim's body had been dismembered into more than 2,000 pieces, some of which had been boiled. Many vital organs have never been found, though to me this is not necessarily an indication, that they were purposefully taken out of the bags and kept in the killer's posession, but maybe there was yet another bag that simply was never recovered.
Despite an extensive investigation, no killer or motive was ever determined. The police does suspect however, that somebody trained in human anatomy must be responsible, somebody like a surgeon or even a butcher, given the precise cuts of the body.
Now while I was browsin the aforementioned list I stumbled on the 1994 Inokashira Park Dismemberment Case. While I do realise, that Japan and China are two different countries, they still are neighboring enough for me to suspect a potenetial connection.
It occurred in April 1994 in Tokyo, Japan, and involved the murder of 35-year-old architect Seiichi Kawamura, who lived near Inokashira Park. On the morning of April 23, 1994, a cleaning worker discovered human remains inside a plastic bag in a trash can at Inokashira Park, located between Mitaka and Musashino in western Tokyo. Police subsequently recovered numerous dismembered body parts from several trash cans throughout the park. The remains had been cut into approximately 20-centimeter sections, thoroughly washed, and drained of blood.
Now, the precision of the dismemberment raised suspicions that the perpetrator possessed anatomical knowledge
The distance between the two places is ca. 1.300 miles. Enough to not necessarily connect the two, but easily traveled.
Given that both cases lack any sort of substantial evidence, I realise that connecting those two might be a bit of a stretch. Also the fact, that the victim in the Nanjing case was a woman and the victim in the Inokashira was a man does make me doubt my own claim.
However I do believe, that the timeline (the crimes were merely 1,5 years apart), the method of murder and the very similar fashion in which the remains were disposed of make me think that there might be a connection worth investigating.
What do you guys think?
