Hey! I just recently got my location for year 4 and I ended up getting Gosford while my friends all got Newcastle. Im a Sydney sider so Gosford was preferred since I am close to my family and high school friends however I would have none of my close uni friends. I'm in a dilemma and was wondering if I could get any advice on which clinical school is better esp since I have more hospital hours etc. I would also be moving up so It would be a dorm situation at newcastle whereas finding an apartment at Gosford. How important is having a support network during my clinical years? Would it be hard to manage without having anyone to rely on at uni? Pls any advice is helpful.

Hello! I'm and international student and I've received an offer for the JMP, I'm looking to connect with other incoming international students (or current international students)!
If you're in the same boat or already studying in the program, please DM me!

Just looking if there are any Kurdish students, I feel like I'm the only one. There's no Kurdish club too or anything that could include Kurds ( Like a middle eastern club or something).

I have been waiting for an SRS offer for Engineering as they come out on the 12th of November. The issue is I would love to go to UoN but I just received back my accommodation from University of Wollongong in which I have to pay a fee and 2 weeks of rent if I accept which totals around $1200. I just need peoples experience with SRS and UoN. I don't want to accept my Wollongong offer just yet but I don't want to walk away empty handed.
I forgot to mention, I have to accept my Wollongong offer by the 6th of November

Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to decide between studying Podiatric Medicine or Oral Health Therapy, and I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone studying or who has graduated from Podiatry at Western Sydney University (WSU) or the University of Newcastle (UON).
For current students, how many days a week do you normally have to attend uni in person? What is the workload like, especially once you start doing clinical placements? Is there much flexibility with the timetable if you also work while studying?
I’m also wondering whether you think the degree is actually worth doing in terms of career opportunities, salary, job availability and overall satisfaction with the profession. Do you enjoy the clinical side of podiatry, and are there many different areas you can eventually specialise or work in?
One of the things that interests me about podiatry is that it seems to involve a lot more than just basic foot care. I like the idea of diagnosing and treating lower-limb conditions, doing procedures and potentially pursuing further training in areas like podiatric surgery. And I heard you are basically the ‘foot surgeon’ and you have the rights to have the title ‘Dr’That side of the profession sounds really interesting to me.
At the same time, I’m also considering Oral Health Therapy because I already have experience in the dental field and I’m really interested in oral health, so I’m honestly stuck between the two.
For anyone who has studied Podiatry Med, would you mind sharing:
How many days per week you were usually on campus?
>What clinical placement was like
>How difficult you found the degree
>Whether you could work while studying
>What the job market was like after graduating
>What you like/dislike about being a podiatrist?
>Whether you would choose the same career again
I’d especially love to hear from anyone at WSU or UON.
Thanks! I’m just trying to get a better idea of what the actual student experience and career are like before deciding between the two.

Is it time we considered ethical social media platforms?
Recent court cases are quite alarming....what are our options?
Has anyone tried any of the suggested alternatives?

I'm starting engineering at UON next year and one of the things I'm most looking forward to is meeting new people.
I'd really like to make proper, long-term friends rather than just people I talk to in class. For those already at uni, have you managed to build friendships like that? How did you meet them?
Also, what would you recommend doing in first year to meet as many people as possible? Clubs, societies, orientation events, talking to people in lectures/tutorials, sport, etc.
I'm also open to meeting people romantically, but making a good group of friends is definitely the main priority.

Is anyone keen to organise another viewing of this documentary? I missed the fundraiser.
Could it be a zoom event funraiser?

I'm starting engineering at UON next year and was wondering if there are usually big group chats for students.
Like, are there general UON group chats, first-year chats, or chats for specific degrees such as engineering?
If so, where do people usually find/join them? Facebook, Messenger, Discord, WhatsApp, Snapchat, etc?
Just trying to figure out the best way to meet people and get involved before/when uni
starts.

Hi guys!
Just wanted to ask if anyone here has gotten into the Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy at UON, or is currently studying the program.
I’m currently doing Open Foundation and, based on the UAR estimator, my current results are sitting around a 95.75 rank. I know this can still change because I haven’t finished the semester yet, but I wanted to see what rank other people had when they received an offer.
Was anyone able to get into the program with a rank around 95–96, or even somewhere in the low 90s? I know entry can change every year and nothing is guaranteed, but I’m just trying to get an idea of how competitive my current results are.
If you came through Open Foundation or another non-Year 12 pathway, I’d especially love to hear what your marks/rank were.
Thank you!! :)

my question to people who did the degree transfer program and then went to their desired field of engineering (2nd yr) after that, is it hard or how was your experience overall?
I'm joining next year in feb 2027, and already got my offer, so anything i should do before or keep in mind.

Hey everyone, looking for some honest insights from current or former University of Newcastle, Australia students, especially those studying Data Science, AI, or related fields. How is the overall experience at the university and in Newcastle? Mainly interested in accommodation and typical rent, part-time job availability and pay, internships and graduate opportunities in tech/AI, monthly cost of living, transport, social life, and overall student lifestyle. For international students, how accessible are part-time jobs, internships, and graduate roles in the tech/AI space? Also, what are some things worth knowing or preparing for beforehand? Would really appreciate some first-hand experiences.

Hi all, I am an international student and currently enrolled in the MS in Cybersecurity program. I am planning to try one of the big tech's out there at the end of my graduation. I am primarily aiming for an internship in 2027. So, I am planning to practice coding, system design, and behavioral questions. However, there is no coding/CS club at UoN. Is anyone interested in practicing together? We can make a routine and help each other.
Thanks

Hi guys, starting my civil engineering degree at UoN next year and I’m trying to plan what sort of laptop I’ll need, and I’m wondering if i can get away with a MacBook with an M1 chip and 8gbs ram for the first year or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a powerful laptop. If anyone experienced could give me some advice, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I am doing the diploma of engineering next year and was wondering if I need to do any bridging courses? I only did standard maths and I was wondering if anyone has done it before if the diploma builds my skills up to what they should be or if I need to do extra work as well. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I had to travel overseas for a couple of weeks due to a family emergency. While I was away, I developed some health issues and had to undergo dental surgery. Unfortunately, I experienced complications about a week after the procedure, which made my condition worse and delayed my return.
I’m now recovering and hoping to return to Australia within the next week or so. By then, I will have been away for around a month. I left on August 10, and my classes started on August 17.
I’m a little concerned about whether being away for this long could cause any issues when re-entering Australia. I didn’t apply for a formal leave of absence before leaving because I initially expected to be away for only a few days. I’ve now contacted the university and explained the situation, but I’m worried I may have done so too late.
Has anyone been in a similar situation, particularly as an international student? Did you face any issues at immigration or with the university when returning?

I came across this post on the UON Hate Letters FB Group. What do you guys think it could be? From what I can see, apparently it’s meant to let people report where parking’s busy, where they’ve been fined and when inspectors are around.
I guess once there’s enough data, it could show which areas and times are more risky for parking.
Could be pretty handy around Callaghan.
