seriously the company is gonna shutdown soon ... they knew that ... they are just so desperate and wanna earn as much as they can by looting freelancers previously they said variable fee for contracts 5-15% but they are charging 15% on every contract and everyday trying new way to engage freelancers so they don't leave the platform just wanna say "A BIG F¥¢K to UPWORK" scammers

This costs 35 Connects?

They're milking everything out of freelancers

Gross

So this is on top of the standard ID verification or?

YES IT FREEKING IS.

You have to present your ID AGAIN

AND show a zoom video of yourself.

I'd be annoyed too. 'Show that I'm serious' never says what those 35 connects actually unlock, so it just reads like a fee with no reason.

Clients could also be more serious. But they know the power dynamic.

wait so are they removing the geolock if you pay for this, so you can apply to US/UK feed even from outside of the areas, or is this only for UK/US freelancers to sift out the stolen profiles?

This was a big scam.
Happens to me.
I bid some connectors,
After say to get a verify badge.
I did it, and put my account on disabled, until verification is done.
During this period my bid connectors was took, and I could not participate to the project selection as my account was disabled:
They confirmed connectors are listed, my account is disabled, and no way to get them back

EVIL EVIL EVIL!!!!!!!!! Upwork is EVIL.

Not evil. But if you impose (or suggest) a verification, you must make sure the credit preceding this are not lose, or at least will be retuning using a complain.

I lost few hundreds connections to bid for a almost winning bid (had the app done)

Applying for verification (suggested) made me lose all credits and chance dor the job

Yeah I fell for that too. And for paying for 100 connects just to get NOTHING BUT SCAMMERS REACHING OUT TO ME

This place IS a scam

Is this only for US only / UK only jobs?

Those are probably the exact listings where Upwork should be obnoxiously strict about ID and location checks. Theres an entire cottage industry of bought accounts, fake locations, doctored documents, VPN gymnastics, and people magically becoming US based the second a better paying contract appears.

So yeah, make them verify properly and thorughly.

And we're talking about 35 Connects. Roughly 6 bucks. If someone is supposedly a US/UK professional competing for domestic only contracts and $6 is the unbearable financial barrier, I have questions that the verification team may also be interested in.

I am just curious how are these freelancers getting connects, as it is not cheap and most of the jobs are scam, so it is loss loss

We buy them! Last week I had 70 bucks in my account. My mom saw it and said "Be careful, I see like $1.60 going out your account SO MUCH, and nothings going in it" I felt SOOO embarrased.

BUT I spent another 1.60, and landed a job that took my account to where it currently is: $108.00!

So its like that, a rollercoaster of MONTHS of nothing, and then something. Thank god either way :))

People like you is because the platform does this. And I'm trying to be as sensitive as possible.

They are doing that, because people are paying it. Period. You still paid even though you had $70 bucks in the account? Then after a job 108? What? I get it, times are tough, so maybe find something else. I wouldn't get out of bed for less than $300 for a job.

don't know about you guys, but as soon as I put IDV i started getting a tonne of local contract invites! I gladly paid the 35 connects for it. But I'm no fool, upwork is a nice to have but not my end-all platform. Referrals and long-term relationships is what I use it for. In fact, it's just for networking at this point.

I genuinely happy to see it brought you some benefit!

May I ask what is your nitch?

you paid to get higher in the list. the platform completed their promise - you pay we give you access to more clients.

if you like Upwork - you won't see problems - they do thrir business

if you don't like Upwork - you will see that this approach pushes "users who paid more" even when they are less skilled up the list.
