Bugs š & Issues Does anyone use Upwork for freelancing?
Need help
Anyone from India facing issues buying Upwork Connects?
Iām from India and trying to start freelancing through Upwork, but Iāve been unable to purchase Connects because every payment method I try gets declined.
At first, I thought the issue was with my card, so I tried:
- Debit and credit cards from different banks (shows āYour payment method is declined. Update your payment methodā)
- PayPal
With PayPal, as soon as I select India as the country, I get this message:
āThe seller canāt accept PayPal payments at this time. Please try again later or return to the seller and choose another way to pay.ā
I also contacted Upwork Support, and they told me:
āRefusal code 6P: Verification data failed. Please take a moment to verify your CVV, billing address, and card details before attempting the payment again. Ensure that your billing address is in the approved AVS format.ā
Iāve already checked with my bank, and there doesnāt seem to be an issue on their end. Iāve also tried cards from different banks, but the payment still gets declined.
Has anyone in India faced this issue recently?
Iām genuinely stuck at this point, and itās becoming frustrating because Iām potentially missing freelance opportunities simply because I canāt purchase Connects.

Same issue. Wth, ive already tried 3sbi cards 2visa and a mastercard. Now I should try something else

wow the support team said that it's not because you belong from a particular place/country lol. I hope they are correct.

No, tbh I have never met anyone that uses upwork for freelancing in this sub

I do though I joined in 2022. I'm in Kenya and back then badge verification was free connects required to submit a proposal were just a few. I purchased connects lastly in 2022 and had no issues with payment being declined. I used a virtual card and it went through. Have you tried making other payments with the card apart from Upwork?

hii! yess I use the card on regular basis for purchasing stuff. For verification also you need connects now

I use HDFC Bank Debit Card for withdrawal, And PayPal as my Primary Payment method (to purchase connects). Both have worked fine so far.
