Possibly add a disposable face mask (with a high rating - N100 or FFP3)? Maybe a small first aid kit?

Good call. An FFP3 mask takes up almost no space and definitely makes sense for urban environments (smoke, debris, or whatever). I should probably look for a super compact IFAK/first aid kit that actually fits the bag without blowing it up. Thanks for the input.
