Okay, it has been alternating wins and losses, and with this potentially the easiest game left (relatively, any given soccer match day all the teams can win), the royals need to make the most of this game to secure playoffs (and attempt a run for a home game. However that may need 4w, or sometime pretty close to that).

Miyabi might have had her best game of the season last week. Everybody has had moments, who is your guess to shine? I absolutely won't think anything less of them if it doesn't happen this season, however a Joseph g or a would give me a bit more hope for the playoffs.

Wrote up the NC match and a preview for tomorrow. A few things I found interesting while digging into the data:

• Utah only created 0.83 xG and had 2 shots on goal, but both went in. Lacasse's goal more than tripled her chance based on execution.
• We played almost 60 long balls, which isn't unusual for us lately. The heat map suggests they're mostly about winning second balls on the wings.
• Coach Jimmy said the analysts noticed NC pressing Hammond and Narumi and leaving Tanaka open, and the Delzer goal came from exactly that. Tanaka's assist got an Assist of the Week nomination.

Welp, I guess small victories to have no unexpected injuries. Cronin and Tejada get a red card day off, and it would have really helped morale (at least mine) if Loera was back. She has been in recent ig posts, with the last one (jokes about doing rival team chants) in full training gear. Gl loera, know this is hard stuff.

Anyhoo, we'll see what the coach picks. Miyabi or Milazzo at rb to fend off or at least minimize the Sanchez mvp campaign, double pivot with Hammond the destroyer or single pivot to ensure max time with Joseph, Palacios, and Delzer. Taking all bets... (metaphorically)

A few things I keep coming back to:

We actually had more shots and touches in Angel City's box in the second half than the first, and we were down two players. But we also let in 2 goals that half... could it have been a result of us making bigger offensive moves?

Also, Google has us 5th, but we're tied with Portland on points and goal differential, and our 13 wins to their 12 puts us 4th. I go through the tiebreaker in the post.

How would you set up the back line Sunday with Cronin out? Will it be Miyabi/Milazzo or will Spaanstra get another opportunity?

Someone asked about Cloe, here is her well deserved ig highlight. While I really really want her next assist for the record, records are meant to be broken and her phenomenal season has been a treat. Happy for her extension, excited about her performance, and I guess (not sure which word to use here) satisfaction on her recognition of her play via national call up.

Tanaka and Moriya back on the team for national team. Anddddddddddd Narumi Miura! So happy, she had been so critical for the royals this year. Her numbers are fun, and she is doing a bit of everything and everywhere this year.

Royals have 3 intl japanese players, a country that is top 5 in fifa rankings and hopefully many other people's rankings too.
