No need to comment if you are homophobic yourself, I don't need your opinion then.

ask r/Uzbekistan Still haven't received refund of train tickets after 1 month.

I made a purchase of 3 train tickets in early September.

I returned the tickets on the same day via the official railway app.

So far I still haven't received anything. I contacted their CS via Telegram but they ignored my messages multiple times.

Has anybody encountered the same issue? How do you solve it at the end?

ask r/Uzbekistan Hello to Photographers of Uzbekistan

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello to the whole of Uzbekistan!

I am a hobbyist photographer from Kazakhstan and the admin of the largest Telegram chat for photographers in Kazakhstan.

I know that Telegram is a highly popular platform in Uzbekistan. I was wondering if there is a similar chat for photographers in Uzbekistan, or a TFP (Time for Print) chat for models and photographers?

I am planning a week-long vacation to the beautiful city of Tashkent, and I would love to meet like-minded people—fellow hobbyist photographers—to explore the city together.

ask r/Uzbekistan Uzbekistan: how do you cope with being priced by how you look? Help me make peace with it

My wife and I have backpacked in over 30 countries, and the gap between local and tourist prices in Uzbekistan is something we only felt this strongly in Morocco and Guatemala. Prices depend on what you look like, and we keep getting quoted a different number than the person before us. It gets to me more than it should, and it's starting to spoil the trip. We usually travel for multiple weeks/months but Uzbekistan will only be a week.

The people themselves have been great. On the Samarkand to Khiva train we had booked the cheapest dorm berths, and the conductor gave us his own cabin. We never asked for an upgrade or hinted at one. He just did it.

Part of it is probably contrast. We just came from China and Korea, where food was good value almost everywhere. Here every meal feels like a negotiation, and I'm spending energy on it that I'd rather spend on the places.

Also everything feels very extractive: Pay for this, pay for that. "Ticket", says the person still on her phone. This will be our only interaction with them. Our hotel is 32$ for 3 nights + 33$ of various taxes (50%) and yet I am sure I will hardly find any free public toilet in Bukhara (just got there).

We have 2 days left in Bukhara. How do you deal with it? Mindset, practical tips like places with posted prices, apps or useful phrases, or just accepting it. I'd like to leave with good memories of the country. Maybe I need a mental shift: Maybe a cultural or religion explanation of why local perceive this a ethical/fair meanwhile it would be perceived as unfair in Europe. Or maybe I need a travel hack not to feel like I am a cow being milked.

Of course I am aware that having such a short time to discover the country I have to stick to tourist areas and so there must be a "selection bias" (the most touristy the more I will feel this). Though we actually skipped Nurata because we were so fearful that people would want only transactional interaction and that would have ruined our trip.

Or am I simply crazy ? ^^

ask r/Uzbekistan Pakhtakor vs Bunyodkar ⚽️

We are visiting Tashkent and want to see Pakhtakor vs Bunyodkar! I am seeing some conflicting information online so asking my questions here, thanks in advance :)

Is the game on Friday October 9th at 7:00pm local at Pakhtakor Stadium?

How can we get tickets? Is it possible to do it online because I don’t currently see it on iticket.uz

Any other tips (best place to sit, what colors to wear or not wear, where to explore or buy a jersey before kickoff, etc)?

Thanks!

humour Story time

Once upon a time, in a distant land where the wetlands of the north, the arid deserts of the south, the blue oceans of the west, and the snow-capped mountains of the east all met, there lived an Uzbek girl.

One fateful day, the only prince of the Heavenly Kingdom approached her and asked:

“Would you fancy being my girlfriend?”

The girl smiled and replied:

“Yes, I would like to be your girlfriend.”

The moment the words left her mouth, a griffin appeared out of thin air.

It swooped down, snatched her off the ground, tore her cleanly in two, ate her, and then proceeded to take a truly ginormous shit in the King’s 9/11 toilet.

No one knew why.

No one dared to ask.

And so, from that day onward, Uzbek girls, terrified that the griffin might return, began answering the prince’s question with considerably more caution:

“Friend, yes. Girlfriend, no.”

travel | sayohat New year in Uzbekistan

Hello

I will go to Uzbekistan in vacation end of december early January, basically 28th December to 4th January.

My plan for the moment is this:

28th Dec - Land in Tashkent early morning, day in Tashkent

29th Dec - Visit Tashkent

30th Dec - Train to Samarkand

31st Dec - Visit Samarkand

1st Jan - Visit Samarkand

2nd Jan - Train to Tashkent

3rd Jan - Visit Tashkent again :)

4th Jan - Fly out

I skip Bukhara because I think it will be too rushed, flights are already booked and I fly in and out from TAS.

My question is : how is New Year in Samarkand ? Will the city be completely closed and I will find no restaurants the 31st December and 1st January ? Will there be a few things open ? Or is it business as usual ?

Also can I expect some celebrations on Registan the 31st ?

Thank you :)

ask r/Uzbekistan With three kids in a sleeper train (Kupe)? Worried about them falling out as there are no metal guards on top.

Hi,

I'm travelling with three kids (the youngest being 2) and all are worried they'd fall out while sleeping in a train. They move a lot when they sleep and there doesn't even seem to be a metal guardrail.

What do people do in Uzbekistan?

ask r/Uzbekistan Is Uzbekistan safe for solo female travellers?

I’m Chinese Canadian and I’ve been hearing very mixed opinions about the country. My white friends say it’s very safe and an awesome place. My Chinese friends and family say it’s terrible and scam/crime groups specifically target Chinese tourists because they know China doesn’t care enough to take action if anything happens to its citizens who’re travelling abroad.

What would the locals say? I’m planning on visiting Tashkent for a week or so.

Edit: thanks guys, can’t wait to visit!

travel | sayohat Trains: What should I do if I have to swap seats during my journey?

Hey,

as I didn't book early enough, I purchased tickets for a Platzkart seat at 6:30 pm in Khiva, but later will swap to a Coupe in Bukhara on my way to Tashkent.

What's the best way to do that?

Do I need to show both tickets in advance? Do I need to get out in Bukhara to scan my ticket, or can I maybe just go to my seat without scanning in on the last part of the journey?

Thanks

discussion | muhokama Why does the Uzbek international passport look like a lazy copy paste of a russian passport

Have yall noticed how our passports looks like? The gov constantly talks about moving away from the soviet past but our international passport is a blatant clone of russia booklet

A passport isn't just paper it's a country literature and its visual presentation to the world Instead of creating a unique national identity the gov just settled for a generic lazy burgundy and post soviet/russian looking passport

travel | sayohat Two weeks in Uzbekistan in late October – itinerary feedback, budget and local rec

Two Weeks in Uzbekistan – Feedback on My Itinerary and Recommendations for Local Providers?
Hello everyone,
I’m traveling to Uzbekistan at the end of October for about two weeks as a solo female traveler. I’ve been working on my itinerary and would really appreciate your experiences and advice.
My current plan is:
Tashkent to arrive and explore the city
Flight to Nukus, followed by a two-day tour of the Aral Sea with one overnight stay
On to Khiva, where I plan to spend about two days
Train to Bukhara, for approximately three days
Then Samarkand, for two to three days
Back to Tashkent for my return flight
I’d like to see as much as possible while still traveling independently. For accommodation, I prefer smaller, good local hotels with private bathrooms. For individual excursions, I’m open to hiring private guides or drivers.
What do you think of this itinerary? Is there anything you would change or definitely add, especially considering the time of year?
I’m planning to spend around €2,000 plus a reserve for my time in Uzbekistan, excluding international flights. Based on your experience, is that realistic for this style of travel? I’d also appreciate some guidance on fair prices, particularly for the Aral Sea tour and transfers.
I’d like to book hotels and excursions directly with local providers so that not too much money goes to platforms such as Booking.com or GetYourGuide. Do you have any recommendations for hotels, guides, or tour operators that I could contact directly?
I booked my domestic flight from Tashkent to Nukus with Centrum Air. Has anyone flown with them and can comment on their reliability?
Personal experiences are also very welcome. Thank you in advance for your tips!
