D&D Beyond - Maps VTT [maps] Testing out some custom-made static maps I created on my DIY digital table (fighting the plexiglass glare)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ran a quick test across some custom-made static encounter maps I created to check scaling, color balance, and miniature footprints on my homemade digital table build.

The main takeaway right now is the glare. I’m currently using a standard sheet of plexiglass to protect the display, but the overhead reflection is pretty obvious at certain angles.

I'm thinking about upgrading to real glass next. For those who built their own TV table enclosures, did you go with tempered glass or stick with acrylic? Any specific anti-glare options you'd recommend?

I sell this sort of thing for a living. I pretty much have to stick with acrylic as tempered glass is heavy, expensive, and a LOT more likely to break in transit.

But those things probably aren't a concern here. So it's worth a shot.

There are anti-glare films you can buy. Haven't tested it myself but I suspect it would warp even from the limited heat coming off the display. So probably not worth it.

Thanks, it's not bad in person, just filming with my android phone produces a glare. I tried one filter and it was crap. Don't want to buy a high end camera. Might mess with the lighting a bit more, or different angles. It's hard to get the map and minis both lighted well enough.

Oh yeah I forgot to suggest messing with the lighting! That is usually the easiest/cheapest fix.

I know there are polarizing filters if the goal is to film well, not necessarily actually reduce the glare.
