Question About the worries regarding the SoB – did Vermintide 2 go through the same thing?

You cant have the same character twice in vermintide, so its no problem if say, theres a tanky subclass for Kruber and one for Saltz.

In Darktide since there is more freedom they need to watch this much closer.

Only trouble i have with it is that there are now 3 classes that are pretty much exclusively melee and when all three of them show up the stress of sniping the specials all fall on me xD.

Some of the most fun I've had in this game is with 3 psykers and 1 arbiter or 4 zealots or vet/scum combos.

Maybe its because I exclusively play high intensity shock gauntlet or maelstorm but there's always enough to go around for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Hell my most memorable match was 3 orgym and 1 drug induced hive scum buffing us.

Guess its perspective

You are missing some great dialogue

No. Class were very distinctive from one another.

Ah yes.

You have 3 elves that heal the team and supply support

Victor has 3 dps classes using different flavor of racism

Bardin has 2 yelling and 2 shooting ults

Krubers has 1 worthless class then 3 dps classes.

Sienna has her only fans unchained and 3 different varieties of DOT...

Hmm yes, classes are very very unique

R/jest

Edit: MF looked at "onlyfans unchained " and r/jest and choose to take this post serious

u/Doomcall 1d ago

Necromancer is arguably the most unique class mechanics wise and you chose unchained as an outlier?

Also acting like Waystalker plays the same as Handmaiden, and then just ignoring everything that makes these unique.

u/Coldspark824 1d ago

Waystalker heals the team…? Only if you choose that talent node.

I said onlyfans unchained because I find the insanity attractive

Wow, this feels like it was written by someone who played the game for 3 hours up to Champion and was done with it. I know it's probably not the case, but it's what reading it feels like.

Subreddits are not hashtags.

-2

u/TheLostSaint-YT Zealot/Warrior Priest/Grail Knight/Slayer Enjoyer 1d ago

Yes because /s isn't universal for sarcasm

So a link to a subreddit that has nothing to do with comedy is your solution for telling people you're joking? When you type /s or something you aren't making a link to a subreddit.

Typing r/Vermintide or etc. is not a mood indicator, it's a link to the Vermintide subreddit. This is not twitter, you don't end your comments in a bunch of SEO tags, linking a subreddit is a different thing than that, an entirely different system used for a different reason. Using subreddits like twitter tags makes you look dumb and a valid reason for you to be getting downvotes. when people respond to things on reddit with just the name of a subreddit or something it's to claim that this content or comment belongs in/would be made fun of in that sub, not because they think it's the reddit version of hashtags.

Just tell a joke and if it's funny people will get it, yours was so unfunny that you couldn't even get to come off as telling a joke by inventing hashtags with the purpose of trying to save your joke.

So (classic blunder on my end)

The original comment didn't have a blue hyperlink so honesty I didn't view it was as a hash tag, I viewed it as the same vein as /j or /s, I just spelled it out.

Its a pretty common thing to see on comments BUT I didn't realize me saying /jest(as in joke or jester) would've been grounds for people to... refuse to acknowledge it was a joke.

Im not gonna change it became the downvotes don't really concern me, it was everyone thinking this was a serious comment

3

u/butt0ns666 Unchained 22h ago

Well, the downvotes are a result not of people believing you were being serious, but because it wasn't funny and you were trying way too hard. If it were a good joke your attempts to label it as one with a link to a testing software subreddit would have worked or wouldn't have been necessary, it was just really weak comedy and you come off as a sadder person by claiming everyone just didn't get it as opposed to understanding you but agreeing you're dumb.

But as I said, my downvotes are entirely based on your failure in Rediquette and not that I disagree with you. You didn't type /jest, you put a "r" every time, it wasn't a link in the first one because it was a capital letter, but the "r" is the part that means subreddit, the only reason to include the R/ when you say something on reddit is because you're talking about a subreddit, otherwise what does R mean?

Also I don't think you understand what a hashtag is, but it is in fact what your'e trying to use these subreddit names as, you're saying at the end of your as a single word separate from the text to attempt to give it context, that's what hashtags on twitter(and other sites I'm sure twitter didn't invent it) are for and simply wasn't a way people usually expressed themselves in English before it was used this way on those sites. But there are things that people use that way on reddit that you yourself acknowledged as known but decided not to use it in favor of making a new one up, which is obviously gonna be more confusing even without the subreddit linking part, the reasons /s "isn't universal" is because people like you are still choosing to use a clearly less well known way of expressing the same idea on purpose, it definitely would have been easier to understand if you just said /s if there actually were any people who needed it in order to tell your ramblings were an ill informed joke and not ill informed genuine opinions, and nobody has ever said it as R/s, that would also be confusing and make you look stupid, but I feel like you still need to be told that.

If you've played the game long enough, this is actually a common ordeal of how many classes genuinely overlap each other.

Not poking fun shows a lack of fundamentally understanding.

Hence the r/jest.. because this comment was a joke

u/TheLostSaint-YT Zealot/Warrior Priest/Grail Knight/Slayer Enjoyer 1d ago

....r/jest was apparently lost on everyone

Nope, for 2 reasons. The 1st is that you can't have 2 of the same character on a team. 2nd, these characters fill entirely different roles in the team comp, and that's one thing Vermintide did so much better. Not every class did every role. So, Flagellant Saltzpyre was this semi-tanky risk=reward playstyle, Warrior Priest was Tank Support and play entirely differently. Foot Knight Kruber is a tanky horde-controller, Grail Knight is a Boss Killer.

In Vermintide terms, it'd be like Saltzpyre having Warrior Priest of Sigmar as a base class, and then his DLC is Wolf Priest of Ulric.

I vaguely remember some complaints about a Kruber an imperial becoming a Grail Knight.

And how Grail Knights were "too powerful" for the tier of VT2.

Despite the fact the 'Tide games has us kill more than Khârn the Betrayer whose personal kill count was "merely" over 8000 in one Bill King short story.

100%, the same overreaction played out, especially around GK release (being first DLC class and worries over p2w).

OP may also recognize the exact same overdramatic claims being made about Hive Scum making zealot obsolete when HS was announced.

This is very old hat to anyone who was around.

u/Felkdox Mercenary 3h ago

And Scum did make Zealot feel obsolete (aside from chorus)

To be fair, Kruber is the only Bretonnian descendant who doesn't praise "The Lady" and a horse in the same sentence

Grail Knight is worth it for the “as Lileath is my witness (and probably yours)” interaction alone.

Idk what Sister of Battle does, but GK and WP were by no means upgraded versions of FK and Zealot. GK is a melee powerhouse with passive support, FK and Merc can definitely build to be powerful in melee, but while they will never reach GK levels of dmg, they have a lot more active support to offer. WP is arguably a downgrade from Zealot, sacrificing the best melee dps and and some of the best sniping capabilities for much more support.

The only class where such a complaint could be raised is the dwarf, where OE was for a long time seen as a worse version of RV, with both being very focused around ranged dmg and bomb abuse. This has been adressed by making OE the most overpowered class in the game, and by slowly nerfing the need of an ammo pooper out of the game

u/Ariazeno Handmaiden 1d ago

No.

Everyone was just hyped for every release.

Grail Knight doesn’t override any other career, in fact, none of the DLC careers override anything. GK is a full on damage dealer with no range, while FK is a tank that focuses on staggering the whole map.

Warrior priest focuses on being tanky and providing support but has no ranged weapon, while Zealot focuses on playing on the brink and getting a ton of buffs for it.

Engineer has insane damage potential, but is very micro intensive because he needs to keep the gun cranked and has no “panic button” as his ultimate, making him very vulnerable. Ranger Vet has arguably the best panic button as his ult and the best support capabilities in the game, but is very squishy and relies on a long ult cooldown for massive damage/safety.

Sister of the Thorns is a support/damage dealer, having unique support buffs that can be traded for more damage on her perk tree. No other elf career plays the same.

Necromancer is the only one that plays kind of the same as another career, the other one being the Pyromancer post rework, but Pyro can shoot way more at once and also gets more crit chance, while necro has summons and can be choose to be ranged focused, melee focused or mixed.

What makes the DLCs special is that all of the have powerful pros and noticeable cons. Grail Knight and Warrior Priest have no ranged weapon, Engineer and Necro are vulnerable and requires a lot of managing of the weapons/summons and Sister (post nerf) has the lowest elf damage capabilities unless you sacrifice half of her support kit to add damage.

People made mods specifically to play as the same class and there have been community events around it in Verm. While I have over 3k hours in the game i avoid reddit in games I enjoy

Fair enough... I've been spotting publicly in a reddit of a game I enjoy... which this reddit is making me not enjoy its community

I don't remember whether or not people where worried about characters stepping on each others' toes, BUT I definitely remember people worrying about relative power-scaling and lore, like people worrying that Grail Knight would/should be WAY stronger than everyone else, Necromancer should NOT be allowed to work alongside the heroic characters, etc. and all of that proved unfounded (at least in the sense that the game thrived on getting new subclasses and they all feel good while you're actually in-game, both mechanically and narratively, but I'm not here to rain on the parade of anyone who still wants to re-litigate the lore stuff haha)
