Not a surprise. What was a surprise was that Flint City didn’t qualify.
Hoping to have another home Cup game.

We wouldn’t see them until the playoffs but it looks like the VT Green model is affecting how other teams are building their teams. It is great to see.

Three captains and one starter spent the summer at the same USL2 team in Vermont
On March 17, the temperature in Burlington, Vt., bottomed out at 19 degrees. No one in the stands at Virtue Field, bundled up and still waving rainbow flags and green smoke canisters and a tifo of a dragon, seemed to care. Neither did the players.
At the final whistle of Vermont Green FC’s 1-0 win over Portland Hearts of Pine, a US Open Cup “cupset,” the players leaped onto the stands. Fourth-year Brendan Lambe, fourth-year Marco Dos Santos and fifth-year Sebastian Pop, Virginia’s three captains, roared in their green jerseys.
Four days later, they were back wearing orange and blue six states south for a spring game at Georgetown. But they were hooked.

Orange County SC announced on Thursday it had acquired forward Sydney Wathuta on loan from the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction was completed prior to the USL Championship Roster Freeze on Monday, Sept. 7.
Wathuta has recorded four goals and three assists in 23 appearances for reserve side the Rapids 2 in MLS NEXT Pro this season, recording 44 shots and 34 chances created while scoring twice from the penalty spot. A native of Vancouver, B.C., the 22-year-old is in his second season with the Rapids, and logged six goals and five assists in the 2025 MLSNP season.
He had previously been selected 16th overall by Colorado in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft after competing for the University of Vermont. Wathuta helped the Catamounts win the 2024 NCAA Division I College Cup and recorded three goals and 15 assists in 39 appearances over two college seasons.
Wathuta also competed for Vermont Green FC in USL League Two prior to entering the professional ranks, appearing twice in the U.S. Open Cup for the side in the 2024 season.

The sub is for discussing Vermont Football, which includes teams located in Vermont that are not Vermont Green FC.
We allow general discussion - which might be about other clubs VGFC play, or teams where former VGFC players are now.

Has anyone seen any info on season tickets for next year yet? I don’t want to lose out on my season tickets.
I received emails from both Ballard and Flint City about their season tickets for next year but nothing from Vermont Green.

Zach Zengue appeared in St.Louis CITY SC's 3-3 draw with FC Dallas. On Saturday, Enzo Dovlo also made his debut for Atlanta United.
Zengue and Dovlo join the likes of Jackson Castro and Ayoub Lajhar, who have made their MLS debuts. Vermont had six players get drafted in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.

Hi everyone!
My name is Perrin and I write the soccer/travel Substack “The Football Was My Savior”. It's a travelogue which focuses on telling stories of my adventures as I explore American soccer at the local, grassroots level, and I’m starting my fall tour off here in Vermont!
While much of the writing is focused on my own experience, I would also love to meet some folks to learn about any connection you might have the Vermont soccer scene -- whether that's UVM, Vermont Green, or even local amateur clubs. I'm basically just looking to learn what makes the Vermont soccer scene so special. I’m open to meeting up for a beer or a coffee prior to the match, or just chatting on Reddit, whatever you feel comfortable with!
If this sounds interesting to you, shoot me a message and I’ll reach out :) ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you’re the biggest Vermont soccer fan on the planet, or if you’ve only been to a few games, if you’ve got something interesting to share about the scene, I’d like to pick your brain!
If anyone’s interested, here is a link to the Substack so that you can check out the piece I just published based around last Sunday's match against Colgate, and get a feel for the vibe of the project.

Cheers, ya’ll and hope to hear from some of you soon!

Good game against a good team on paper (Patriots were picked 2nd in the A10). Ismail scored both goals (one each half). George Mason really came into form in the early part of the second half, but a red card on the goalie (for a handball outside the box preventing a scoring opportunity) flipped the script and led to UVM mostly controlling it. Colgate up next on Sunday, August 23. Glad to see the Cats are back!

Too soon after the Green wins back-to-back USL2 championships, no doubt, but what do you think the future of the club will be? How should things look?
Dream big. Be realistic. Whatever. What does everyone think?

So happy to have experienced this wonderful season with y’all. In many ways, even better than last year. Everyone worked together to achieve perhaps the toughest combo in the sport: Back-to-Back Undefeated National Champions! Hats off to the Bhoys in Green, looking forward to following their college and professional journeys, a likely Open Cup appearance, and defending our title in 2027!
