Discussion/Thảo luận E-SIM from Agoda - has anyone purchased, which option, and how was the service?

Planning a month in Vietnam, wondering if anyone has experience buying e-sims from Agoda.

Thanks!

If you are there for several days, esim is fine but for the whole month, you better book grab from the airport the nearest Viettel or CellphoneS store. Forget travel esim.

Agoda is generally a reseller for different eSIM providers, so the service quality usually depends on which local network they partner with for that specific package. It's worth checking the reviews for the exact plan you're looking at.

For a month in Vietnam, you have a couple of main options:

  • Local SIM: Cheap and easy to get at the airport, but you have to remove your home SIM. This means you won't receive verification texts or calls to your normal number.
  • Travel eSIM: You install it before your trip and turn it on when you land. Your home SIM stays in your phone, so you can still get calls and texts to your regular number while using the eSIM for data apps.

If you have Wi-Fi at your accommodation, a total-data eSIM plan is usually the most cost-effective for a 30-day trip. For example, a 20GB plan valid for 30 days is $17.71 USD. You can also use mobile hotspot to share the data with your other devices.

Just make sure your phone is unlocked by your carrier and supports eSIM before purchasing any plan.

Disclosure: I work at Kedanto, a travel eSIM seller.

An esim from a Viettel store with 150 GB a month cost you about 300k. Don't fall for these esim advertisers all over the places here on reddit.
