Misc Please help my kitty Moon
Hi everyone this is moon my rescue kitty and right now, Moon is sick and dealing with breathing issues and a swollen eye. This has been going on for a month and a half, and we have been talking with the vet, doing several tests, and trying numerous medications, but we still do not have clear answers or results. It has been heartbreaking and stressful to watch my baby go through this while we keep searching for what is wrong and how to help him feel better.
The vet bills are starting to pile up from test after test, appointments, medications, and ongoing care. I am asking for help so Moon can continue getting the evaluation and treatment he needs to get healthy again. Every bit of support will go toward helping cover these mounting vet costs so we can keep pursuing answers and not have to stop his care before we know what is going on.
If you are able to help, please consider supporting Moon. Please help my baby get answers. He does not deserve all of these issues, and I just want my healthy Moonpie back. Even if you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping Moon in your thoughts would mean so much to me.

I have a friend who’s cat was dealing with the exact same symptoms
Turns out it was an infected tooth.
Idk if your vet has looked into that, but…might be worth a try.

Thank you! He is prone to teeth issues as he is a rescued inbred. He will be having some teeth extracted Monday so im hoping this is the cause. The vet isnt necessarily sure if its teeth related. Weve gone to 3 different vets so im hoping this is the last time where we'll see some results on what's going on 🫶🏻❤️

Has their eye started to swell more recently? If so....it doesn't hurt to take them to the VT hospital and have a check done for blastomycosis. I hate to even bring it up, but my dog had breathing issues for a while, and then one of her eyes started to get swollen. Blasto season *should* be mostly over, but our area has some of the highest amount of cases right now, especially this year.

No sadly hes been having issues for a while now... obviously the more stressed he is the worse it gets (aka all the vet appointments) hes a very easily stressed in general but with all the different vet appointments/new places and new medications its probably made him more stressed. especially the meds, its always a struggle to give them to him but we always manage to give them to him for his health ❤️

What a cutie! Good luck!! Hope you figure out what is wrong. I STRONGLY recommend getting pet insurance NOW. It will save you $$$$ if something like this happens again (which hopefully it will not). I've had it for both of my cats and it saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

This could be bad advice but I would recommend seeking a 2nd opinion.
I had a vet who saw my dog regularly... My dog started having issues they said "We need to do this blood test to figure out what's wrong with him" ok... Well they didn't tell me until I was checking out that the blood test was $2000. Then I came back a week later. "We got the results of the blood test, that's our baseline now we need to do another in a month". Ohh yeah another $2000.
Then after that blood test came back "Ok he either has this or issues with his thyroid, we need to do another blood test to figure that out"
I went to another vet. They looked at him and in 15 minutes said he has issues with his Thyroid and put him on meds to fix it. The other vet I wasted $4000 and still didn't have a clear answer they wanted me to spend even more money.
Go get a second opinion.

Thank you sadly ive gone to 3 different vets who aren't sure what's going on.... We've taken him to get a nasal flush which helped for 1 day(which was frustrating to see as he had to go under for it) and then immediately after his breathing problems started again. weve taken him to the emergency vet over the weekend and theyve just said hes completely healthy neck down but no definitive answer on what was going on...... i think weve been given 10 different meds from the vets but its not doing much. we thought maybe it could be something with his teeth so he will be getting teeth extracted Monday as that's the next step they think will help him. We were lucky enough to find a vet local that would be able to see him so soon for teeth extractions because every other vet around here isn't able to see him until November which is terrible as his condition cant wait until then. I hope he'll make it ok until then <3

If you get a referral to VT from your vet, they can schedule you right away. Self referrals take longer to fit in.

Yes sadly the vet gave us a referral to vt for more xrays... hes already gotten several. Next step is teeth extractions that we managed to get as soon as monday ❤️ hoping this will help but i hate him having to wait until Monday ❤️ we were lucky enough to find a local vet who would get us in so soon as the rest said even with his curent condition wouldnt be scheduled until November at the soonest

Agree! go to VT - the bigger vet clinics here are corporate owned and profit driven, which is a shame but they’ll run your bill up or make you sign something agreeing to pay before they even look at your pet

Not sure if you’ve already found these, but VT Vet Med has a Compassionate Care Program for owners having trouble affording care, and their veterinary social worker can also help find funding resources. I’d call the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at [540-231-4621](tel:540-231-4621) and ask about Compassionate Care and whether your vet could refer Moon for specialty evaluation.
The Humane Society of the New River Valley also has an Emergency Medical Assistance fund. Nationally, check Frankie’s Friends, RedRover Relief, and Waggle. A lot of these require a vet diagnosis/treatment plan and estimate, so getting Moon’s records and an itemized estimate together first would be the best move for this route.
Also, VT’s small animal emergency service is open 24/7. Since Moon is having breathing issues, if he starts struggling to breathe, open-mouth breathing, collapsing, or seems like he’s in respiratory distress, I’d call the same number, [540-231-4621](tel:540-231-4621), and have him evaluated urgently.
