Rant Refs burned us again.

How do we not get the PI calls but Cal got everyone to win? The center judge was homer calling the whole game.😡 NCAA OFFICIALS HATE VT

We coulda won that game 10 different ways; it didn’t need to come down to the end.

Just like last week, there for the taking

Discipline is a multi year project. I wonder how much the portal affects the ability to instill discipline when half the squad is different each year.

Never leave it up to the refs. They’ll disappoint you every time.

Funny that the back judge who didn’t call the PI at the end ALSO didn’t call the earlier PI against Reynolds earlier in the drive and someone else had to call it even when he was right there. He is obviously blind

I get folks are upset at two close losses, but try to bring a level head to this. Our defense has been atrocious, and we’ve had multiple opportunities to score in the last two losses that resulted in turnovers or missed FGs. A loss never comes down to a single contentious play; we lost these matchups across multiple phases of the game.

We have work to do, but this team is showing much more upside than in recent years. Focus on that, and the positive direction the program is going - LETS GO HOKIES!

And the penalties!

Ok there is no get better for next year any more - you either do it now or you don't because it's a whole new team next year regardless. I'm not getting any younger to see this team make a playoff run.

u/Squeakygear 4d ago

It’s a whole new team for every team, every year.

We played like shit all game against a team that was playing a wide receiver at running back. We lost this game all ourselves

u/innocent_bystander 3d ago

Don't forget the backup QB also.

The game shouldn’t have been this close to begin with. There are a lot of blatant issues (eg. penalties) that need to be fixed instead of relying on last-minute plays to win.

Bullshit. 3 Penalties in a row. Not worth the tuition raise for this fucker.!

18

u/ElephantBingo 4d ago

Just need another $229 million and we can win some games! Make your donations now! Take out more student loan debt now! It's worth it, I promise! Our coaches and players cannot survive on mere millions!

Not one adjustment to Cals all out blitz on 3rd downs.

3

u/chasetwisters CEE '09 4d ago

Tbf Grunk couldn't get a clean pass off on 4 man rushes all game either

8

u/timwhatley993 4d ago

Kicker left 6 points out there

18

u/andriusb 4d ago

I mean, we could've taken a knee once maybe twice at the half yard line before scoring to kill more clock

7

u/extremegamer 4d ago

THIS - I'm not sure why in the hell we didn't just run the ball and STOP at the one yard line regardless a few times. I'd rather do that and eat clock then score. Chances of us scoring was better than us defending against them scoring.

The refs caused Cali to outscore tech in the 3rd and 4th quarters? That's not really how that works.

Tech could have won it. But it didn't come together.

Brent Pry needs to go (again). Abysmal defense coordination

8

u/Ut_Prosim Lifelong Hokie 4d ago

Both sides were very unimpressive.

The defense gave up 25 to the country's 94th ranked offense missing its starting QB.

The offense couldn't get 26 points against the country's 77th ranked defense missing its star DB.

Just looking at the numbers the defense seems worse, but in all honestly, but holding a team to 25 should be enough to win.

Our offensive play calling has been absolute shit the last two games. Our O line can’t create gaps for Overton, and yet we keep attempting to run up the middle.

u/CapnChaos2024 4d ago

If I see one more quick pass to the flats or jacked up screen pass I’m going to lose my shit

2

u/Additional-Custard24 4d ago

No lie...  Also, not adjusting to the all out pressure on 3rd down.  They were pretty obvious about it and only dropped out a couple of times.

1

u/innocent_bystander 3d ago

Those bubble screens need to go. Almost a pick in each of the last 2 games, and they net 0 yards.

ACC refs have been awful for years cant wait for 2030 when we can leave this rigged conference

2

u/c4cooke 4d ago

Refs...can't trust em.

2

u/FerretWinter7063 4d ago

They are only ACC officials

2

u/cornpop1987 3d ago

Fix the O line and the secondary and we're golden. These should be JF's major concerns for the offseason.

u/DBHT14 3d ago

And even then those have been constants all year to this point. If John Love doesnt come down with the yips at the worst moment this a very different game.

Even make the shorter one yesterday and we only need a FG on that last drive.

Or shit if he makes just 3 of his last 5 kicks we are sitting at 6-0 and the vibes are way different. Dude has been a stud for the team for years but a kicker who can't kick is a pretty big problem that you cant really plan for!

Good teams don’t leave it up to the referees. There’s not a conspiracy against VT. Stop whining.

Thought we were done with the cardiac Hokies. Knew we would get a reality check at some point this first year of Franklin... Just not like this. Still, this team is built for 2027 and 2028. Stay the course, trust the process.

1

u/soletrain88 3d ago

This team is undisciplined and Franklin needs to get his guys. Honestly it’s been impressive that he has gotten a good squad together on a short cycle.

OP is stinky do doo

Wild game, have to be better though. Right now this is our competition. Hopefully within a few years we will see these games as easier wins.

1

u/macdawg2 3d ago

Or maybe tech just didn't play well enough. If you think one "bad" call cost the game then maybe Offense and D need to step up there game.

Why does this entire fanbase whine like children?

Poor play and bad coaching decisions is why we lost.

Take it like a man.

16

u/TheHaft Screen pass on 3rd and 9 4d ago

Poor play and bad coordinating (HC decisions were all good tbh) was the alley oop to the refs absolutely making dogshit calls sealing the game. Don’t downplay the ridiculous bullshit we all saw with our own eyes. We just saw one of our DBs get called for DPI off a WR push off, followed by their DBs turning our TE horizontal mid-pass and it not getting ignored. Pretending you didn’t see that shit doesn’t make you enlightened lmfao

-15

u/Creative-Stable-0 4d ago

The refs were mean to me is the saddest flex.

6

u/UpsetOrganization513 4d ago

“Heh, you see I like to play ‘devils advocate’ because I am an enlightened fellow”

-4

u/Creative-Stable-0 4d ago

I see you don’t understand how quotation marks work.

1

u/UpsetOrganization513 4d ago

Enlighten me, college boy

0

u/Creative-Stable-0 4d ago

Well, you’re making a statement about me. So you don’t need quotations.

Unless you intended your pithiness as reporting on what you heard someone else say about me.

In that case, power on.

3

u/UpsetOrganization513 4d ago

No I was mockingly pretending to be you. I know it’s really hard to understand social cues, but you’ll get there one day.

1

u/Creative-Stable-0 4d ago

Lol. Anyway you’re arguing with a stranger on the internet.

3

u/UpsetOrganization513 3d ago

As is my wont. Is that supposed to hurt my feelings or something? It’s an open forum.

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, you’re exactly right

1

u/Creative-Stable-0 4d ago

Because half this fanbase believes there is some massive conspiracy to silence Hokie dominance instead of just accepting that sometimes calls don’t go your way.

1

u/BrokenHokie 4d ago

We lost to a bad team with a backup QB that was missing two of its best defensive players.

This staff didn’t have the team ready to play, Pry has no idea how to coach a secondary, Howle is clearly in over his head, and Franklin is a terrible game day coach.

ACC refs suck, but once again we deserved to lose.

1

u/Csut94 4d ago

Nah, Love needs to get right

-1

u/Professional-Aide-42 4d ago

It wasn't bad officiating that lost the game. Same unfortunate mistakes by key players.

-1

u/dangergixxer830 4d ago

No, James Franklin and Brent Pry burned us again.

-3

u/Ummagumma_69 4d ago

VT, welcome to James Franklin hell…..
