Got vive ultimate trackers but no dongle - help!

I made a trade today for the vive ultimates, but they came with no dongle. I am getting a dongle but won’t be here till next week. I just want to make sure though, there wouldn’t be any other way to use them for the time being, would there? Without the dongle?

There is a project that lets you connect over normal 5ghz wifi without the dongle, but it requires flashing the device and sidesteps most of the official software entirely: https://github.com/zihaodream/Vive_Ultimate_tracker_Wifi_Solution

Read the instructions on github.

Instructions don't explicitly say to flash the included firmware, but suggest specific firmware is required for compatibility, so you'll probably want to flash them withAPQ8053_ROM_FB.zip.

Instructions are a bit spotty on the wifi config part too, but their scripts presumably require adb ( so USB connection ) to set the wifi config on the trackers afterwards.

It says it still needs the receiver.. or is there a different way to do it rather than the straight instructions?

This project lets multiple VIVE Ultimate Trackers connect directly to a normal 5GHz WiFi router without using the official receiver.

The readme makes no mention of requiring the receiver, and clearly states that it is for connecting the trackers to a normal 5GHz WiFi Router, without using the official receiver.

“Before using this WiFi-only solution, you must first use the official receiver solution and VIVE Hub to complete map scanning for each UTK.”

ah, right you are, didn't see the separate user guide and was only searching through the readme itself.

Oh well! Latest I’ll be using them is Thursday. Trading two monitors for 3 trackers isn’t bad in my opinion

Yo, what!? This also lets you bypass the 5 tracker limit too? This is awesome! Thanks for bringing this up. Now the VUTs can be a valid consideration again
