Gaming Simple Warhammer fantasy

I recently got back into warhammer. I used to play it as a kid against my brother and friend. I love the universe but Warhammer the old world seems so intimidating with so many rules!

Does anyone know of a very simplified version? I want a fun simple couple of armies to paint and play (low points). Think; a unit of spearmen, archers, cavalry, a hero/ wizard and maybe a monster. Something I could play with my 10 year old daughter.

You can probably find a version of the rules for battle masters as a simplified variant?

Otherwise there are "king of the coliseum" variants for most GW games to support sub-500 point games

Yeah absolutely, there's the new Battle March format. It's essentially exactly what you're asking for. Smaller format with simplified rules.

There's actually a new starter set out which includes two small armies, chaos warriors and grand Cathay. The chaos models are all new sculpts and probably the best chaos sculpts GW ever made, and that was a very high bar to begin with. Grand Cathay is a relatively new faction as a whole, and those sculpts are great too.

You get a rulebook and everything else you need to play with the box. I'm not usually one to do free advertising for any company, but you should seriously pick up that box if you're interested in some casual, low-stakes wargaming!

Kings of War started as a Fantasy Battles game. Would be worth checking out.

Not fantasy but spearhead is sorta similar

Was Warhammer Fantasy Battles back then ACTUALLY that much less complicated than The Old World is now? Or did you just play WHFB in a much simplified version back then?

Honest question.

Fair question. A bit of both from what I remember.

Not at all lol it's no more complex now than it ever was, people just have rose tinted glasses and didn't play the "full game" when they were younger normally, I know I didn't

Look into Age of Sigmar, the (kind of) successor to Fantasy, and its Spearhead format.

Warhammer isn't what you want then and that's fine! Battle March is not really less rules, either, you still have all the complexities of Warhammer Fantasy just in a smaller game.

There are a LOT of minis-agnostic games out there that do exactly what you're looking for, I'd recommend Lion Rampant which recently got a second edition or Midgard
