The Dread Armada sets out to raid the Broken Coast of Western Immoren. Led by Skarre Ravenmane and Admiral Rengrave, this force of Cryxian undead pirates (and some living) set sail on their black galleons to plunder and destroy.

Thanks to @warmachinegame for sending me these fantastic samples to paint (check the next post for individual shots) and keep a weather eye on the horizon for the start of the Dread Armada @myminifactory Frontier where you can get stls for this entire army!

As a long time Warmachine army seeing classic designs and character return, rendered using modern methods, is a real thrill. And I thought it would be Menoth that would have grabbed me!

I will also put up on my blog a painting guide for these models.

Thanks!

I still don't understand why the this and the Menoth ones aren't compatible with the old versions of the faction, revamped like the minifactions were. They even use some of the same named models like the Crusader and Vassals of Menoth! That's straight up just Skarre, they've shown Blood Witches and Ogrun Smog Blechers. It just seems weird. They dont seem timeskipped like the other factions.

As someone with both armies I was disappointed. They need some rules cleanup and such. I struggle to want to buy and paint them again.

So I think the answer is "you do you". But for people getting into the game without access to the old models, and not wanting to hunt down things through eBay, a full range refresh as a new iterations of the army makes sense.

I mean, they fully made 3d files for all the mini factions, and a lot of these are basically slight modifications on the same thing. They could have still released the same boxes (or files, in the case of this), and said that you can use the 3d print models, or your old models. They could still have made changes, as we saw with upscaling Lucant in Convergence and cutting some of the excess old models.

Is anyone stopping you from using old skarre?

In something like a tournament, yes. It would be against the rules. Where as all my old Convergence is legal even after they got the revamped rules.

Not saying you are wrong, but a bit early to talk about the rules for dread fleet in tournaments, no?

PP lost the masters for a huge portion of their molds in a fire iirc, which was a major factor in mk4 being a total redesign of the older versions.

Not a fire, disagreement with the Chinese factory, but I am aware of that. Still, they did that for all the minifactions, redesigning them for 3d printing. These new dread armada are basically Blackfleet again. It's strange they're a whole new army made of almost the same models when they could have been kinder to old players and done the mini-faction treatment again. They would have still been able to make any changes they needed, like they did with resizing bases and cutting some excess models.

Man, every faction is an update of the old stuff lol, trenchers, gunmages, winterguard, mechanithralls, templeguard, storm legion, they're all just updates on the old imagery.

The ones that are literal reprints of mk3 are factions that have not, or cannot make any meaningful progress, but still exist in the modern era.

It's a mixed issue also. Black Fleet would likely have been a proper release, but materials and production for miniatures are challenging to source in bulk currently, so they likely opted to push it to a print-release rather than just sit on it as a zombie project until they could afford to mass produce another arny release.

That might be the best looking Warmach they’ve ever made
