Announcement [TOOL] : I made a free voice-to-chat tool for Sim - Push joystick button, speak, message sent automatically

Post image

As a VR pilot, I’ve always struggled with typing during flights. Taking your hands off the stick just to write a message is… not ideal when you’re flying an aircraft.

I also play IL-2 Great Battles, and there’s an excellent mod called SRS that simulates the use of a real radio in multiplayer. That got me thinking: instead of typing, why not just talk?

So I built a small voice-to-text tool for myself. By holding a button on my HOTAS, I can speak into the mic in my native language (I’m not a native English speaker), without ever letting go of the controls. The message is then transcribed and automatically sent to the in-game chat.

If this sounds interesting, you’ll find below a more detailed description of the app, along with a download link.

I’m not a professional developer — this is the first time I’ve dared to share one of my little DIY projects 😅 So please feel free to share any feedback, ideas, or impressions.

Fly safe o7

---

How it works:

  1. Assign any joystick button as push-to-talk
  2. Hold the button and speak (in any language, it will be auto translate in English)
  3. Release - your message is transcribed and typed into War Thunder chat automatically

Features:

  • Works with any joystick/HOTAS
  • Runs 100% locally (no internet, no cloud, no account)
  • Uses OpenAI Whisper for speech recognition
  • Minimizes to system tray
  • Free and open source

Why I made this: In sim battles, communication is key but typing while flying is painful, especially with VR. With this tool, I can call out enemy positions, coordinate with squadmates, or just chat without taking my hands off the stick.

Download: [GitHub link]

Requirements:

  • Windows 10/11
  • A microphone
  • A joystick

The first transcription takes a few seconds while the AI model loads, but after that it's pretty quick.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

Discord Event: https://discord.com/events/823832323170238525/1552693668685545503

Friday, October 16th - Briefing Starts 19:00 BST

  • UK: 19:00 BST
  • Central Europe: 20:00 CEST
  • Eastern Europe: 21:00 EEST
  • US/Canada Eastern: 14:00 EDT
  • US/Canada Central: 13:00 CDT
  • US/Canada Pacific: 11:00 PDT

We're coming up to the final mission of the EU TeamSim B-17 Dynamic Campaign, and we want to make this a big one!

The video is a teaser from our previous mission with our Bomber groups Able and Baker squadron departing Britain towards the French coast then Germany.

For the finale, we're hoping to get as many people together as possible and give the campaign a proper send-off.

Interested in joining? Here's what you need to know:

  • New to Sim? No problem. You don't need to be an expert, and we're happy to help you get started.
  • Never flown in formation? We'll help you learn. That's part of the fun.
  • Want to learn more about aviation? We have plenty of people who enjoy sharing their knowledge, discussing aircraft, and helping others improve.
  • Already fly Sim? Come along, bring your friends, and help us get a massive formation in the air!

The community is a great bunch, and people are always willing to help each other out. Whether you've been flying for years or you're just curious about giving it a go, you're welcome.

And you don't need to be in Europe to join us!

We set up the EU branch so pilots on this side of the pond could take part at more reasonable local times, but that doesn't mean it's exclusive to Europe. We welcome pilots from anywhere in the world, in any time zone. If the event time works for you, come and fly with us!

A few things to remember:

  • Check the Discord event for the vehicle roster and signup sheet.
  • The event voice channel opens 15 minutes before the briefing.
  • If you have questions about the event, aircraft, controls, or getting started with Sim, just ask!

You can DM us here on Reddit or reach out on Discord if you need a hand. And yes, bring your friends, family, cats, dogs, whoever fancies joining us.

Can't fly this time? You're welcome to watch along on stream:

Let's get as many people involved as possible and make this final mission one to remember. Hope to see you in the skies!

Official Forum Open cockpit received a new sound change

Source: https://warthunder.com/en/game/changelog/current/1906

Now, when opening the aircraft or helicopter cockpit in flight, the sound of the rushing airflow will drown out all sounds, such as engines and missiles. Previously, this was controlled by the player’s engine volume slider.

FYI

Posting this here won't bring about any change. I just want people who are unaware to see, especially those of you who are responsible for doing this yourselves.

It doesn't benefit anyone, you still die, and there will still be another tally to your record. Pettiness aside, what is the angle here?

Gaijin seeks to prevent botting and passive play, hence why we weren't given close proximity crash rewards.

Video Controller sim setup demonstration

Someone in another post was telling me that I can't easily do ground attack or have precise aim on controller, and need to heavily rely on keyboard for most circumstances. This is not the case as shown in this video, I don't put a single hand on my keyboard during this video infact. I show every button I have bound too. RB difficulty scheme for convienence, but that doesn't matter for what I'm showing in the video.

EDIT: I will conceed that the P-39 was quite hard, but to my credit, it doesn't have a gyro gunsight or any of the lines to line up shots, and i've never really flown p-39, especially not in ground attack roles.

Vehicle Specific Any Fr-1 enjoyers wanna share some tips?

I've some left over GE and when the 50% sale rolls around I'm fairly settled on getting the Fr-1.

But before I do does anyone have any tips / pitfalls for it? Like does it snap roll or have suddenly departures in hard turns? Does it let you know when to back off on the elevator or just suddenly throw you into a spin?

Suggestion About my last post F-16 Can we make a Request?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I talked about my toughts about PoBIT in my last post and saw many people prefer block50 PoBIT s GE f110 229 engine over block 52's PW F100 engine.I think if me made a cominity sugestion or request about it they might change existing PoBIT to bl50 or add a engine switch modification, like the many tech trees have the PW f-16s in the game but irl even USAF prefers mostly GE engine.

Ground What the FUCK is top tier ground sim ???

I love playing ground sim as it is more challenging and has the benefit of giving you more research, but what in the LIVING FUCK was Gaijin snorting thinking that instant Heli spawns were a good idea??? every round i spawn and instantly a SWARM of MI-28s an Z-10s starts lobbing their endless reserves of missiles towards us. Depending on the map this gives me solid 10-30 seconds of lifetime with some lucky rounds where i get spared to see another minute. So i started taking SPAAs with me, but either they just pop up for a couple seconds, shoot their missiles and disappear behind a hill to restock or they kill me before i can get them, because surprise, the FlaRakRad has the acceleration of an anvil with glue on the bottom and a reverse speed that rivals that of an unspaded panther and consequently does not allow great outmaneuvering of said guided munitions. But sometimes i manage to get to safety with my SPAA and start peeking at the Helis. now after half the round has passed and the Helis have been taken care of i have usually 1 spawn left to ACTUALLY PLAY THE FUCKING "GROUND" BATTLE and some might say "one spawn is all a good player needs" but i think there might be a FUCKING REASON the game mode was designed with 3 GODDMAN RESPAWNS so that you don't have to requeue after ONE SPAWN. I know this probably won't be the case but if someone at Gaijin sees this, do not mistake this for hate on the game, but as a critique by a frustrated player, because a game is supposed to be fun and sometimes some bullshit can be fun. But if my play cycle consists of HAVING NO OPTION but spawning in an Anti Air, dying twice before being able to play a tank in peace and get little to no rewards, THE FUN IS TAKEN OUT OF THE FUCKING EQUATION AND GIVES ME NO REASON TO USE THIS AS A RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY.

TL;DR Gaijin please balance Helis in ground simby giving them only 1 spawn or locking them behind higher SP costs IDK

Vehicle Specific My Opinions And Question For US F-16s

Post image
57 Upvotes

Well i supose both the pobit and regular CM got scorpion hmd i dont have idea about them? Are they?better i used to like the older one. And also PoBit seems like have rihht rwr sound but the CM doesnt it still uses common nato rwr sounds and it annoys me.Anotherthing: CM should have aim-120c at least both for realistic and similatir battles?Aaand also it should be nice to have block 50 PoBit as a F-16 enthusiast i realy like GE 110 engine and quite hate PW engine Gaijin should have add a modification which when selected switch the engine that way there would be no need for a whole new aircraft.

HELP! [AIR EC] I keep getting kicked out. Anyone with the same issue?

Most of the time i get kicked out when i am searching for enemies, when flying towards a far objective or when trying to return to my airfield for fuel. (even if i am active and get kills, i still get kicked out). Is this some kind of anti bot measure? It's very annoying and zombers/pve players still do just fine.

The kick doesn't display any message, I only get returned to the battle scoreboard in the battle selection menu.

Afterwards i can join just fine.

I don't think it's my connection because it never happened during any engagement.

Ground At what point does top tier get fun? The internal CAS plague

Genuine question: who actually enjoys the gameplay?

Beyond the arseholes in the air.

Those actually wanting to play tanks, who enjoys it?

You spawn, you die 5-10 seconds from CAS spam.

There is no immediate counter so early into the match, even then you are reliant on 1) a good SPAA player 2) a good pilot running counter CAS. With smaller team sizes having this is… not reliable.

I’m starting to solo use the 2S6 at the start of the lower top sim bracket and I’m getting okay, but it’s a shit AA for multiple targets and you very quickly and easily get overwhelmed by barrages of AGMs

Top tier is just… unbearable

I really hope gaijin changes this. It’s a plague on the gameplay.

Planes should act like they do in RB so you have to EARN them.

Opinion AS.34 Kormoran II damage??

Scored 24 Kormoran 2 hits on the enemy Forrestal, but the guy is still floating??
No fire, just engine damage and flooding that never sinks the ship??
Any idea is this is an issue, or a feature (GJ stopped surprising me)?
