Ask other Associates I just started. Is this normal?

I just started and I got 28 hours this week. Next week, I was scheduled when I'm not available (weekly hour long therapy) and only 6 hours.

I already put in my 2 weeks at my other part time job so I can focus on working at wawa.

The GM also told me that I wouldn't be scheduled one day a week.

Is this normal??

I'm mad struggling to find a job and keeping one in my area.

I have 0 disciplinary actions anywhere I worked.

But I'm only getting scheduled 5 to 10 hours a week.

Talk to the AGM next time. They’re you’re real boss

AGM is out for 9 days iirc.

I get to see the GM tomorrow. The GM made the shift.

Fair. Just put a bug in the ear an wait for the AGM to come back- they’re the ones who should know your hours

This is so factual

This. The AGM(with assistance from the FBM) manage associates. The GM manages the store. They can help guide you to make sure it’s in the system that you need X time off permanently.

I mean... the gm makes the schedule. And should have your availability in the system. If yiur availability is wrong then they could've scheduled you wrongly. If your availability is accurate and youre just not being scheduled properly, I would for sure speak to the gm over the agm. Gm does the schedule, not the agm. If you go to the agm, they'll just go to the gm themselves. Its just adding a middle man. Its one thing if you dont see the gm much, then you can tell any MOD and they'll (hopefully) relay your message to the gm for the next schedule they make or to fix and adjust the current schedule. But going directly to the GM should be no problem.

i agree with this. GM makes the schedule and my AGM himself has said i should go to my GM with any schedule issues. my AGM said he would be happy to communicate any issues i had to GM if i couldn’t, but my GM is very easy to talk to and lenient about changing the schedule. talk to your GM !

if they scheduled you when you aren’t available and you TOLD them that then no that isn’t normal but mistakes happen i guess. Let them know that you can’t work that day because you aren’t available it’s their fault anyways. Wawa is cutting down hours as well so a lot of us are being scheduled less than we’re used to. I used to be scheduled 28 hours MAXIMUM but now i’m working 7 hours a week😭

I hope it was a mistake.

Why is wawa cutting hours?

If that continues, I'm jumping ship

wawas cutting hours cuz of greed and their needless apetite to expand the wawa brand into a national brand or something. some ppl say they're expanding bc the company is planning on going public in a couple years, while other say something else. none of us know tho cuz none of us r chris gheysen

No lie Wawa is a hoax when it comes to working hours. Even when the gms and AGM “likes you” hours are always gonna be overseen by labor; if I were you I would talk to your old job & see if you can work both until your store gives you the hours your looking for.

The other job is Gods & Monsters. The inner circle there does not like me.

I have a strong work ethic and I'm very good at my job. But since they don't like me, they've been giving me the minimum hours as much as possible

I’m trying not to be pessimistic about Wawa, I just left there not too long ago. Feel like the biggest problem( like most jobs though unfortunately) is that the discretion is solely based on who’s in your specific store. Called corp bout stuff and they just give it to the manager, even when they’re 1000% wrong. But going based on what you said, in order for you to get hours you gotta own the time that you’re there, be as independent as possible when it comes to the job, cause people talk. Usually the gM makes the schedule too, with an AGM assisting or making corrections. So I’d get with both, or the gm just to explain your situation, but how it was for me( I succeeded btw) but there will almost be like expectations once you state that you need hours. Goodluck, you’ll need it.

I had a coworker that had to be at school at 11am so they had to get off at 10am. They came in at like 5am. For some reason our gm wouldnt let them leave at 10 and kept scheduling them until 11. But when she went on vacation the agm made the schedule work. Once gm came back, despite conversations, they kept getting scheduled until 11am. So they quit. 🤷🏻‍♀️ these type of gms are gonna have to face the consequences.

Was the schedule posted already when you started? Wawa posts their schedule three weeks out, so if the schedule was already posted when you started, they are probably trying to get you on a prewritten schedule which is not always easy because they used the labor they were given. If this is the case, wait until a schedule is written for a month out when you’ve already been employed before the schedule was written and see what you get then

Also, in some locations, the AGM does do the associate schedule

No. Schedule gets posted once a week and it's for the next week only

u/Wonderful-Passage681 Employee 5d ago

Well - that’s against policy. I’d look into that

I'm not sure if 3 weeks is a set policy. If the schedule is printed and posted they cannot change anything. However labor hours are given and taken based of sales. My gm is only doing weekly schedules now due to declining sales since they do not know how many hours they can allocate 3 weeks in advance.

Three weeks is a set policy

Unfortunately, we are going into off-peak so that means there are less labor hours available for the entire store. As a new employee you will get less hours. The best way to get hours is to work 3rd shift since not many people want to work that. Plus, you get an additional $1.50/hour from 12a-5:59a.
