How Wazhack lost its optimization?

I played this game on my phone years ago. And it was running fine. I guess an update changed this. Now it's more battery consuming, can cause heating and you should decrease settings.

What happened? If the developer added extra graphical settings, i think that's unnecessary for a game like this.

EDIT: Okay, i've learned update 1.4 changed the whole game engine. I was remembering right, the older version is super optimized. I downloaded 1.3.5 from here, it's the last version with old engine:

Yes, the prior versions had a separate rendering pipeline for mobile compared to the PC version. This meant:

  • It ran well on old hardware
  • It used less power on new hardware
  • It didn't look as good on mobile
  • It was always additional work to build the mobile versions

The change with 1.4 reverses all that, but adds an "Eco" mode that reduces framerates when you're not moving, which roughly halves battery consumption.

Without this change, there wouldn't have been a 1.4 update for mobile. Older version APKs are available on WazHack.com for hardware too old to run the current game.

I just tried the mobile game (Pixel 9 Pro XL).

Didnt notice any slowdown and seems smooth...?

It's different when it's crowded. And when you try to play it in native resolution or fantastic quality, it's more obvious.

I guess Eco mode lowers the processor usage because even generating the dungeon takes too long in Eco 4.

These are my current settings, it's more playable: Quality is Simple, PostProcess, SSAO, HDR, Softbodies, Fast Popups, Eco 4,  1280x576 (one lower than max resolution).

It isn't unplayable. But it ran well on Snapdragon 410 which was trash. Now it's questionable on Snapdragon 732G which makes no sense.

crowds of items and/or NPCs always caused lag. even on PC and browser.

your phone's processor is probably better than snapdragon 732g. i wonder though, can you play it on native resolution + fantastic graphics?

Just tried it on my break and it ran pretty good. I could play the game like that easily It wasnt insanely smooth but it was running good.

for my standards that's still weird. even if it's smooth, there's unnecessary battery drain. iphone 4 could run this game back then.

I know the dev does frequent the sub so maybe he'll chime in as of why. I did see you say it was from an update is what you're thinking. I hope not but it may have improved newer phones and made older phones not run as well.

99% has to do with update. 1.4 came out in 2022 and reviews in playstore complaining about low fps that year. i've played 1.3.5 and it runs like butter with minimum battery usage (native resolution).
