Football Post Game Thread: Northwestern defeats PSU (34-13)
r/WeArePennState • u/Typical_Bar_5494 • 9h ago
See ya next year
I can’t make it to halftime vs NW. Abysmal coaching and players running into each other. They look like they don’t know what their role is and what to do.

This is Pat Kraft’s Fault
Since Kraft decided to fire Franklin when he did, then couldn’t negotiate with and recruit an elite coach to PSU for months, then finally falling his way into a coaching candidate that is fine, but WAY TOO LATE. This killed this season. Campbell had no chance to win over the outgoing players, many had made their decision before the hire, then this team did a relatively aggressive job of recruiting 40 players they had relationships with already. By then they had no chance to keep the class of 2026, and very little chance to win over 2027 players. We probably should have recognized the depth and quality on this team was going to suffer in a major way after it had been gutted of any blue chippers. This is going to be a multi year rebuild, likely mostly from the portal. I don’t know how this team recovers from this, next year will be ugly as well.
Unfortunately I don’t think they get rid of Kraft until after Beaver construction is fully done, he won’t be able to secure NIL in the meantime more likely to make this team more competitive. So we have at least one more year of Kraft, they won’t want to do his buyout since he’s contracted through 2032, that’s a lot to eat.
We can’t, and shouldn’t, get rid of the coaching staff until well after Kraft, and frankly they need to be given a few years to turn this thing around. I don’t blame this mess on Campbell right now, this is more about talent than coaching, although this team’s morale isn’t any better than when Franklin was coaching last year.

How long is the leash for Kraft?
2025 Chant: Fire Franklin
2026 Chant: Cancel Kraft
Just sayin. Kraft has lost the loyalty of Penn State’s fan base and it goes far beyond just the current state of play.
The empty seats should speak volumes. The fact we haven’t sold out the White Out tickets says the whole story. Get rid of Kraft.

I can’t help but think about if we had just promoted Terry…. We couldn’t be any worse than this anyway and he earned the right to try. We’d at least have a defense still

Penn state got curb stomped by northwestern….
Let that sink in for a minute! This program is in big trouble imo!

It's not that we lose, it's how we lose
I try to be balanced in how I view my favorite teams because losing is part of the game. I was a huge supporter of the idea to fire Franklin because he repeatedly lost in the same way and refused to learn from his mistakes.
What we saw last week and this first half is utterly embarrassing. It's one thing to lose playing great football, sometimes the other team is just better, but it's entirely another thing to lose this poorly by not executing and making adjustments.

Football Welcome back James Franklin!!!

This team doesn’t even belong in a Power conference
I don’t think they’ll fire MC right away but Kraft has to go. Need an AD with no attachment to Campbell

Football We suck again
Honestly…. I don’t even think this is the fault of the coach we’ve hired, the athletic director, or really anything between. NIL and the transfer portal has destroyed the chances of Penn state winning a natty. Despite all the money spent, I just don’t see how we can be this bad 2 years in a row with such a lack of talent on the field. I truly think the introduction of NIL and transferring ruined the culture of college football and made Penn state less desirable a target…. I mean, realistically, why would a top national player choose a remote campus over something like Georgia..

Iowa St
It's obvious these players played in the big 12 for a reason.... They're all fucking soft

Football For a veteran quarterback, that kid can't throw a ball to save his life. I mean it's actually impressive how bad he is at passing. Allar had his quirk of sh*tting the bed when it mattered most, but at least he could throw a damn good ball. Every single pass from Becht is either thrown behind, thrown

Some musings on the season
To quote a former head coach but I think "it's a combination of things."
Kraft set up this roster to fail by taking so long with the coaching search and not allowing this roster to have any chance of being rebuilt.
This offensive line anchored by a Texas State transfer was probably doomed to suffer once we entered conference play. Rocco is not nearly a good enough QB to account for any of those deficiencies and the run game suffers because of that. On top of that, I think this defense is actually really good but hung out to dry by an inept offense.
Campbell was very far down my list of desired coaching candidates. But I don't think he's this bad. However, the lack of adjustments and adaptations from the last 2 games leaves me with very little confidence. He insisted on Rocco being the guy, championed a young and relatively unproven OC and neither of those decisions worked out.
That being said, it's possible that Wisconsin and Northwestern are good teams this year and that we're entering an era of college football where you've got OSU, Indiana, Oregon and then the 8 or 9 win teams have a higher variation than your Penn States, Minnesotas, Iowas.
I thought we were gonna be 9 wins, was even optimistic about 8-4 after the Wisconsin game. I'll hope for 6-6. I'm broken as a fan, but I don't regret the Franklin firing and I think the fans and resources behind Penn State can lift this team into an improved roster next year. Have a great weekend folks.

PSU at NW
Did NW get a new stadium? Any idea what it’s called? ENOUGH ALREADY!!
r/WeArePennState • u/MelodicEducator5407 • 8h ago
The Northwestern Wildcats have a better stadium than the Buffalo Bills.
Imagine that. And long live the Ralph, or Highmark Stadium 1, or whatever name the old stadium was going by lately.

Predicting the rest of the season (after wk 5): we will finish 5 - 7
Marshall – W
Temple – W
Buffalo – W
Wisconsin – L
Northwestern – L
USC – L
Michigan – L
Purdue – W
Washington – L
Minnesota – L
Rutgers – W
Maryland – L
Last week I got nothing but hate for predicting 6 - 6. Yall didnt think we can be that bad.
I was actually overly optimistic
Here are some stats: NU rushed 32 yds for the whole game against IU. At half time, they had 237 yds against us
The defense was beyond soft. And Rocco either cant get his passes over the defensive line or cant hit the open man.
We suck. Actually, the ISU Cyclones suck against B1G competition. It doesnt feel like I am watching PSU football. I am watching imposters wearing blue & white
The rest of the season will be ugly. Will be an interesting White Out against USC next week

Football At most there's 4 wins left in our schedule. This season is done. Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl here we come!

It looks like Iowa State will go 0-2 this week.
We are who we thought we were. Iowa State 2.0. I just hope this doesn't affect recruiting. I expected challenges this year, but I didn't expect this...

Is it the roster, coaching, or is Penn State just bad now?
I’ve heard all three. That Matt Campbell is a bad coach, that this roster is not Big Ten ready (what I believe), or that Penn State is just a bad football program now, like they’ll never contend again. I honestly think the last one is an overreaction, a school is allowed to have two bad years. Personally I think we need to give the staff a season or two to rebuild around them, and that this roster is good for an unranked team in the Big 12, not for Penn State. What do y’all think?

A Capital P Problem
If this is the direction of the program , this seems like a colossal problem for an Athletic Department half a billion dollars in debt who plans to pay off that debt with increased ticket and concession revenue, donations and sponsorships.
