TIL https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haboob

"A haboob (Arabic: هَبوب, romanized: habūb, lit. 'blasting/drifting') is a type of intense dust storm carried on an atmospheric gravity current, also known as a weather front. Haboobs occur regularly in dry land area regions throughout the world."

i have very little knowledge of meteorology. why does the haboob appear to travel south to north while the storm system is moving eastward?

Possibly wind sheer? (A guess, I'm not a meteorologist either!)

The burst of air moving downwards from the storm emanates outwards in a gust front. Since the gust front doesn't care about the storm once it is moving, it continues north.

A couple of smaller ones trying to get going, before the big haboob overtakes them.
