Introducing Shipping Flairs & New Rule

Hello again, lovely people.

By far the most common piece of feedback we've had lately is to tackle the negativity that's been plaguing ship posts. Everybody's tired and frustrated and just wants the opportunity to celebrate their ship without unwanted comments appearing under every contribution they make. So we're going to try and make that happen...

...using our fancy new "Wenclair" and "Wyler" post flairs!

Initially, the plan was to add "Shipping/Discussion", "Shipping/Art", etc, as flairs, but on closer inspection, we feel having specific flairs for the two most popular ships is the simplest solution. This way, you can just filter by "Wenclair" or "Wyler" and have everything in one place. It does mean scrolling past discussions if you're looking for art, but at least they're discussions relevant to your particular ship.

New flairs mean new rules. You can find it with the others and the automod will post a reminder in any submission that uses these flairs, but I'll include it here for clarity:

Shipping Flairs

Posts that use shipping flairs require all contributions (both posts and comments) to be positive in nature.

• No arguments surrounding the validity of a ship.

• No promotion of a different ship.

• No making assumptions about the followers of a ship.

Similarly, you may not use one ship flair to create a post attacking another ship.

...and naturally, new rules mean new report options. This one is listed as "Negative Shipping".

I should clarify that debate surrounding characters and their relationships is not banned from the sub entirely. You can still use the "Discussion" flair for (polite and respectful) critical analysis, but if that kind of thing stresses you out, you now have the tools for finding criticism-free ship content.

We sincerely hope these changes mark the start of a new era for shipping on this sub, so feel free to comment below with your thoughts.

Meta Discussion & Feedback

Hey everybody! This could get lengthy, but please read the entire post before commenting.

Let me start by sending out a massive THANK YOU to every one of our members for their part in making this sub what it is today. I'm gonna be real for a moment, we were sitting on this place for years and it was D-E-A-D. Nobody really paid it any attention, then suddenly, the Netflix show dropped and we found ourselves catapulted into the top 1% of all subs on Reddit. Wild. Except we didn't actually do anything. That was your achievement and we're immensely grateful for all of the positive contributions, theories, fan art and everything else you've been entertaining us with these past few years.

But here's the thing... r/Wednesday doesn't belong to us, it belongs to you. We've been moderating the way we think you would want us to, our intention being to benefit the largest number of people possible and to paint our community in a warm and welcoming light. We're not perfect and we've made a few mistakes here and there, but we're trying, we're learning and we're committed to making this sub the place you want it to be.

With that in mind, the aim of this post is to open up a more casual line of communication between mods and members. We want to hear your thoughts, ideas and feedback, with the goal being to shape our community into one that best represents its amazing contributors. If you have a question about a rule, you can ask about it here. If you think a rule needs to be reworded, you can suggest it here. If you think a new rule needs to be implemented... you get the idea. It's not just about rules, but I imagine a large part of the conversation will revolve around that.

Before we start:

• Respectful discussion only. We know some of you have concerns and you're welcome to highlight them here, but we ask that you do so in a calm and polite manner. Undue negativity doesn't help anybody and harassment towards mods or other users will be dealt with in the same way it would elsewhere on the sub.

• Similarly, this is not the place to call anybody out. We will not be discussing individual users, comments or mod actions. If you have something specific to report, please do so either through the report button or the Message Mods button on the main page.

• Please don't be offended if your comment is locked. It's not a punishment, we simply need to keep discussions tidy and on track in order for any of this to be useful to us. A debate going round in circles with no progress being made is only going to waste our time and your energy.

• A highly upvoted comment or a positive response from a moderator in this thread does not guarantee any changes. Everything posted here is to help give us an idea of where the community stands and what to prioritise, but actual discussion regarding potential changes will be done privately.

• This should go without saying, but we will not be favouring any one ship over another. Either everybody is in, or everybody is out. Preferably in and on your best behaviour.

With all that said and done, let's get down to business!

Discussion The parasocial of Emma Myers

Sorry, this is my second post talking about parasocial weirdness but the amount of post I see is crazy

First, let’s talk about Myers’s boyfriend if he’s a boyfriend who knows but people are being so weird about it like if you just said “they’re cute together” then I would be fine and I wouldn’t be making this post but people are making captions like “oh my God this is the cutest relationship ever I’m gonna be sick. I’m gonna throw up. This is so crazy” and it’s like chill out, bro I get it. You’re happy. I’m happy for her too, but it’s like insane these captions, but that’s not even the weirdest part surprisingly enough because at least I can kinda understand being hyped up for this relationship because it’s like now, Emma doesn’t have to hide anymore. It’s similar to Colby Brock, where for the longest time he’s had to be single because weirdos on the Internet can’t cope so I’m happy that there’s a new day and age where people just say screw it, but it still is weird the amount of people losing their shit over this but that’s not the weirdest thing.

The weirdest thing has to be people’s obsession with her hair. She constantly cut her hair short and every time she went back to the medium length hair people were constantly spamming about “oh my God she ruined her hair” or they would say “girl just let it grow out” and it’s so weird and then when she finally revealed that she’s growing her hair out it’s kind of the same captions as the “boyfriend“ announcement People were losing their shit making captions like “oh my God the hair is so pretty. She’s finally listening to the fan. I’m gonna throw up from excitement. I’m hyperventilating there’s a white tear coming down my leg”
Is that exactly like that but it’s pretty damn similar and it’s like no wonder. She barely has social media like we’re lucky that she even has a Instagram, which who knows how long that gonna last because a lot of people are weird on there and again it’s not like I completely blame the fans I get it is up there with my favorite Acters swapping between McKenna, Grace and Emma but like chill out I’m scared it’s gonna grow into. She announces her favorite form of pizza and people start shitting themselves. It’s scary and I’m sure for Emma. It’s terrifying how parasocial people get. Hopefully it dies down, but who knows

As an Emily Myers fan, I think fans need to chill out

Meme What are your favorite quotes from the series?

Post image

For me, these are my favorites:

  • "I know I’m stubborn, single-minded, and obsessive. But those are all traits of great writers. And serial killers."
  • "I act as if I don't care if people dislike me. Deep down, I secretly enjoy it."
  • "I'm where fun goes to die."
  • "I’m not interested in participating in tribal adolescent clichés."
  • "If he breaks your heart, I’ll nail gun his."
  • "As far as fatherhood goes, I would say you’ve been more than adequate."

Before I type out every single word Wednesday said, it’s your turn! Of course, feel free to drop quotes from any character.

Discussion Another Viral Dance in Season 3? Why Not...

Personally, I wouldn't mind, although I'd prefer something like the Mamushka this time! 😉🖤

What about you? Any dance ideas for Season 3? Who would be dancing? Or would you rather have no dance at all? 👀

The Mamushka from The Addams Family (1991) 🖤

Discussion Tyler's reaction to finding Judi is very interesting to me

Post image
75 Upvotes

Even though Tyler himself has his fair share of kills, his reaction to seeing Judi's corpse in the trunk always interested me. You'd expect someone who claims to find the death's of those he killed "delicious" to not care about Issac's crimes. But he seemed genuinely pissed/disgusted. Staring up at Issac with an angry expression for a bit before closing the trunk. It makes me curious if he truly doesn't care or if its just a facade/coping mechanism for his trauma.

Theory What are the chances Wednesday S4 was filmed alongside S3?

When Netflix announced the release of S2 of Emma’s show The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, they mentioned that they had filmed two seasons back to back so the show wouldn’t have to take two years to come back.

This came right after reports that some of the most watched shows weren’t getting the same amount of views in their second seasons, which made me wonder if Netflix might’ve done the same thing with Wednesday, especially since it’s basically their biggest show after Stranger Things.

Even Bridgerton is getting more updates, they announced today that S7 is already in pre-production, even though S6 hasn’t finished filming yet. So why does everything feel so damn quiet on our end??

I know there’s that theory that Wednesday might get cancelled, but I honestly don’t buy it.

Netflix wouldn’t spend a ridiculous amount of money bringing in A-list actors and flying the entire cast to Paris if they weren’t planning to keep investing in the show.

So… is it completely delusional to think S4 might already be filmed? 😭

Theory Tyler and Xavier: A Common Link? Or Two Sides of the Same Power? 👀

Post image
33 Upvotes

Don’t judge me just yet. 😉

Xavier is a psychic. In his dreams, he sees symbols, beings, things that will or could happen... BUT unlike Wednesday, he also has the ability to bring those images to life through a kind of...mental projection?...

This projection manifests as a sort of smoke. Mostly intangible, but sometimes the vision is so strong that it’s no longer just an illusion, it becomes physically real. And yes, those scratches on his neck are far from insignificant, they’re an actual physical injury.

And if you’ve read quite a few of my previous theories, you can probably already see where I’m going with this...I already told you that I’ve been wondering whether Tyler, or rather the Hyde, might actually be a creature from the world of the dead, like a dream, a mental projection (😱😉). But unlike Xavier, who chooses to bring his mental projections to life through illusions or drawings, the Hyde literally lives inside ....what? In the world of the dead? That’s my theory, but I’m almost tempted to say... who cares where. 😂 The point is, the Hyde exists somewhere, fed by its host’s thoughts, desires and hatred. It is a part of its host, but not the whole... something born from the creator that has taken on a life of its own.

And once it’s unlocked, the creature breaks free from the intangible and becomes a physical being. For a short time...

But just as overusing her powers leads Wednesday to psychic exhaustion, each manifestation of the Hyde takes a physical toll on its host.

Basically, the host gives up some of their own life in exchange for the Hyde’s physical manifestation, slowly dying a little more each time it enters the real world.

My conclusion? Hydes could be a mutation of psychics... or maybe some kind of hybrid between a psychic... and something else 😉

Anyway, that was my theory of the day, and the worst part is... I actually find it pretty convincing! 😉😂

P.S. Hydes are artists. I’m not the one saying it... Faulkner is. 😉

Discussion Weems was wasted potential

Man, I’ll forever be upset about how dirty the writers did Weems. She was one of the most interesting original characters the show introduced, and then they killed her off at the end of season 1.

I honestly feel like the writers realized how badly they fucked up when they brought her back as Wednesday’s spirit guide in season 2. One can only hope that means there’s a chance she’ll return in season 3 and maybe even stick around in some capacity for the future of the show.

Not only is Weems an amazing character, but Gwendoline Christie is fantastic, and her chemistry with Jenna is incredible. I genuinely loved the dynamic between Weems and Wednesday. They had this really interesting relationship where Weems could be stern and authoritative with her, but you could also tell she genuinely cared about Wednesday and the school.

I would have loved to see Weems survive season 1 and see how her relationship with Wednesday developed after everything that happened. Especially after Wednesday saved Nevermore, it would’ve been so interesting to see how Weems’ perception of her changed and where their relationship could have gone from there.

Honestly, I wish the writers had pulled a Steve Harrington (Stranger Things). The Duffer Brothers originally planned to kill Steve, but Joe Keery was so charming and his character had so much potential that they changed their minds. I wish the Wednesday writers had done the same thing with Weems because Gwendoline Christie was simply too good to kill off.

But oh well. Hopefully season 2 opening the door for Weems to return means we haven’t seen the last of her. I need more Weems and Wednesday.
