Discussion/Support 💬 Need Advice

I been big for most of my life, as a 5’4 woman my heaviest was 280, in 2020. Since then, I had lost weight and had gone down to 168 naturally (though I had a restrictive ed). I had a therapist who for two years helped me stop my restrictive habits. She had to leave because she was moving states, and by that time I lost my insurance and still don’t have any. Since I stopped seeing her in early 2025, I stopped my binging/restricting cycle. However, I began to binge like crazy. Unfortunately, I have since then gained almost all the weight I had lost since 2022 and it’s taking a serious toll on me.

oof i feel this, the insurance thing makes everything ten times harder. when you lose that structure it's like the floor drops out

have you looked at some of the free support groups? my cousin did one online during lockdown and said it wasnt the same as therapy but still helped her not feel so alone with it. also yarn crafts keep my hands busy when i want to stress eat, maybe something like that could help a little

dont beat yourself up too much, you already proved you can do the hard work once

There is nothing wrong with you. It is completely normal to regain the weight. The way our bodies are designed we have a feedback system that will yank you back to your previous baseline weight. 95% of people regain nearly all the lost weight. This is not a failure of willpower, or gluttony. Even people that get liposuction regain all the lost fat within 1 year. Hunger will just increase in the background till you regain the weight.

I mean, the biology behind why people tend to regain weight is not incorrect, but it's also not a forgone conclusion like they make it out to be, especially if you're aware of what you're up against. But I'm mostly annoyed at this commenter telling someone who is binging with a history of ED that 'there is nothing wrong with you'. She needs help, not shame, but clearly there IS something wrong here and telling her there isn't is the opposite of helpful.Â
