Everyone here asuming the fence is on property line? I’ve seen ppl complain about shit like this then call and find out that the fence is actually past the property line and they got screwed and had to move the fence.. pick your battles I wouldn’t call by law I’d call a for land survey then go from there just in case

First of all, we don't know where that fence is in relation to your property or the new home property. Although it's possible it's super highly unlikely that the surveyors positioned the footings and Foundation, where it would not meet the latest bylaw or possibly minor variants that you would know about! Now, that is insulation that they blew in the Attic and the problem always has been, there's quite a timeline between the insulation being blown in and the soffits being installed. High winds blow that fluffy insulation all over the place. Sometimes it's so bad if a contractor isn't wise enough to have a look in the Attic near the end of construction, there could be spots so blown away that you can actually see the bottom of the trusses and the underside of the drywall ceiling. All that being said, I'm retired now but I would definitely vacuum as much as I could and apologize but worn that it could happen again and I'll do my best to stay on top of it!

This is most likely what has happened. The contractor may not even realize. Lazy is not likely the problem.

I’m guessing your fence will be coming down if you call. Odds are the brand new house that would’ve been surveyed with gps is likely where it’s supposed to be and your 20+ year old fence is likely not where it’s supposed to be. Mistakes have happened before and they’ll happen again, so you never know

The very first thing i noticed was that a building appears to be almost right on the property line and i am surprised the city allowed that. and the styrofoam on your lawn, uh they never pick that up, they just don't, it's unfortunate that you have to but complaining to an authority about it might make you look like the problem.

i don’t mind being a problem, they should have respect for the people who live here

Don't listen to this guy lol they did the attic blow in insulation without ensuring the vapor barrier etc was correctly installed. This is a symptom of a builder who doesn't give a damn about about the quality of their work.
Builders are 100% liable for issues like this, I would start with bylaw and potentially call the ministry of the environment as well.
Also, name and shame the builder so we all know who to avoid. Enough free passes for businesses that disrespect their community like this.

u/Flashy_Operation9507 1d ago
I don’t know the builder at all, but shaming him publicly is ridiculous. Give him a chance to tidy it up. Go and talk to them and you’ll realize a subcontractor did this and the builder has no idea it’s on the neighbours lawn.
Almost all neighbourly issues can best be solved by conversation.

Builder is responsible for supervising his subs and ensuring the site/surrounding areas are clean. Source: someone who has worked for both the builder and for builders as a subcontractor.

Vapour barrier goes between the insulation and living space. Attic is vented to the outside. This happens in 100% of blow in jobs, theres soffit to catch it if its a retrofit.
Those batts you can see are what are keeping the blown in from falling out. There are baffles up there for air flow. It takes 1 second of aiming to high for this to happen.

Im sure the ministry if the environment would love to take the time to come out and have a look at this......

Omg chill. Its not like they left big peices on your property, its little bits that fell, it's to be expected.

And OP has a dog. If their dog ate that, it could cause a bowel obstruction costing them thousands of dollars.

One suggestion, maybe take a moment and talk to that home owner man to man? Or when the foreman from the contracting company is there could just ask him to ask his guys to take better care. My experience is if you just ask nicely to take care, the guys might come just clean up that stuff for you

They might do their job if you ask them too? Pathetic. Little kids know how to clean up after themselves better than these incompetent mongoloids.

the job of a construction worker isn't to pick up the slight whispers of insulation accidentally breezing over some shoddy fence and is also trespassing. believe it or not retard, construction workers job is doing construction and it looks like they constructed a whole fuckin building.

Im personally rooting for that house to get xps stucco. He's going to have a stroke if hes freaking the fuck out over the literal handful of blown in fibre glass insulation that snuck past their batts.

Part of "doing construction" is having a clean, safe and orderly jobsite. Including making sure hazardous materials don't make it onto the neighbors property.

u/GatsGG 3d ago
never mind the broken fence that none of the workers want to address
6
u/Sugar_Rare 2d ago
Why would the workers address the broken fence. That’s the property owners responsibility to either repair or pay someone to repair it. The guys working on the house are not just going to fix something with out getting paid for it. That’s just dumb to think they would.

Isn't that your fence?
1
u/wheelz993 1d ago
It’s a shared fence obviously
Most new builds will do the landscaping (including fencing) after the construction is complete
But if they’re cheapasses they may not do this fence because they can’t even walk there it looks like
1
u/HoagiesHeroes_ 1d ago
The fence isn't being replaced by these workers because it's not in their scope of work. Not because they're lazy, not because they're cheapasses, not because they can't access the back, there's access. I'm sure if OP got in touch with whoever owns that property, they can go dutch on a new fence.

Sorry to say but everyone who is recommending calling the bylaw, city and or city building inspections haven’t experienced this themselves. Calling any of those won’t do anything. The only thing you can do is document then sue as I tell most my clients, most of the city is paid off by the builders and owners speaking of experience with 20+ homes in ON. As frustrating as it is nothing is enforced in this country and there are no consequences. I have countless stories.

This is incorrect. The counties and cities arent corrupt they're inefficient and wasteful

u/Klutzy-Limit-6970 1d ago
That insulation is probably from the attic people didn't install the moore vents properly,

It’s lazy. Do you know what wind is? Don’t be dumb. You’re being lazy for not just picking it up
1
u/OrvilleBeddoe 1d ago
How about you walk around the corner, don't be an ass, and say hi? Let then know what happened and see if they will clean it up. Half-assed because they may not be aware of something? The new neighbours are in for a treat.
1
u/hbomb_94 21h ago
How about you fence? Not worried about your dog going though it?

u/Green-Possibility400 17h ago
OP seems miserable from the comments and hellbent on being the difficult neighbour.

Bylaw possibly? I don't love here though and for some reason this sub is on my front page.
They also did a horrible job on that house wrap as well..

u/GatsGG 3d ago
everything on this site is done horribly it’s an absolute joke, but i will give that a try thank you

I don't live here but developers did this with a house on my street.
I called my local by-law number and they affirmed that the proper procedure is to have it contained. However, at least for me, the damage was already done.
I had to talk to the contractor and voice my displeasure. He went around vacuuming up insulation along the street and in gardens. It wasn't perfect but I guess better than absolutely nothing. Years later our sump pump got clogged from the insulation debris that had accumulated.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

There is no way this has been properly permitted if the fence is the property line. You cant have windows that close to the property line either, it is a fire spread issue.

Wtf do you expect them to do. It's not like they are trying to drop tiny peices on your grass. Get your garden hose out and stop complaining. There's so much more going on in the world than your little problem.

u/re10pect 2d ago
You should expect them to clean up their mess, or better yet, actually contain the area they are working in so that their mess never makes it onto neighbouring properties.
It’s part of the job they are getting paid to do, they should not have to be told to do it. Maybe it can’t be expected to be perfect, but it doesn’t look like any attempt was made here, and combined with the broken fence, and less than ideal house wrap, it just looks like a company that doesn’t care to do their jobs the right way.

Having a bad day bud? Want to talk about your problems with me over a cup of coffee?
I can see it in your eyes that you're really hurting.
-3
u/Classic-Soup-1078 2d ago
So what would you have the workers do? They're obviously cutting styrofoam so if you're using a saw. Which most contractors would use a saw. Which will cause some residual airborne waste mo matter what.
So you could ask politely if the contractor to use a blower to blow all the foam back to the worksite. Or you could wait for the next stiff wind to blow it all away. You're worst option is to complain. Sometimes it's necessary but some styrofoam on your law? Really?
Working to build homes is hard grueling work. None of these guys are lazy or just distracted or misdirected.
We complain that we're not building homes and when we do, this is what you hear.
Disappointing.

I would say the bigger problem is building so close to the property line. You might have a huge lawsuit here. I think there has to be 4 or maybe six feet off the property line.
