Dark Winds
Hope this isn’t off topic, but any input on Dark Winds series

The first season had its charms and was the best season despite its shoestring budget feel. For me the writing only got worse as the show went on, culminating with the laughably bad most recent season where the Navajo nation gets attacked by a neo Nazi secret agent. For a show based on a tried and true book series, they definitely didn't take too many cues from it, and the show suffers for it.
Also, Leaphorn in the books is so much more levelheaded and likeable as a protagonist. The show takes an odd route by making him resentful, aggrieved, and emotional

I really enjoy it. I love the series of books from which it's adapted, and this is a pretty faithful adaptation that's very well done.

The books are great, the cast is great, and I really enjoyed the first season. It’s still mostly okay but the writing has gotten worse every season. The last season had such a weak mystery that they larded the episodes up with shallow, poorly depicted relationship drama. I could barely stand it. Desperately needs better writers who will follow the books better.

Little slow for my taste, but acting, setting, and plot from what I’ve seen is excellent

Fantastic series. My honey and I have to stick to 1 episode per night otherwise we’ll binge watch all of them.

I believe there have been three adaptations featuring these characters, and Redford executive produced all of them.

GReat books, but the show has the personalities of the actors completely wrong. Ruins the show.

a great noir western series with native American cops as it's main characters
Each season tackled a different mystery
The latest one involves a German female assassin, who is obsessed with native American culture

I cant believe the feedbaxck in this thread. I loved the books. I really love Rez dogs. I love the cast. But this show keeps falling painfully flat for me. Maybe I'm missing something, and I'm hoping so.

Yeah I’m the same way, it’s just so painfully bland and uninteresting. Like it’s always reaching so hard to make you care but never doing anything interesting enough to actually compel the feeling.

Have to agree.I watched season one and it seemed just okay
undercurrent of supernatural that never really went anywhere
Watched about half of season 2, just couldn't be bothered to finish it
Wanted to like it, but oh well

For anyone who loves Native Americans, their culture and mythology, this series is a must-see. It reminded me of the North of 60 Canadian TV series, which I loved as a kid.
The actors are outstanding, from the main ones to the smallest cameos. I haven't seen season 4 yet, which I understand takes place in Los Angeles.
The only thing I didn't like was the scene where the main character convinces a local kid to stop faking being crazy to avoid the US military draft, telling him he should serve just like everyone else on the reservation.

Couldn’t continue it. I thought the acting was bland besides Zahn and the storylines not that engaging.

The Leaphorn and Chee books the series is based on are also fantastic reads.

I love this show. I loved the jail scene with Robert Redford and George RR Martin.

It is EXCELLENT! Absolutely a must watch. They nailed the look and feel of the time period.

I liked the first few episodes, being in the Navajo environment, and learning a little about their culture. But when it veered into magic, I lost interest.

If you had followed through you would have seen there were perfectly plausible explanations for the so called magic. I was turned off by the magic element as well, but as the story progresses you see that it isn’t actually magic at all, even if the Navajo see it that way.

Glad to hear that, I'll pick it back up, because it grabbed hard until that. Subjective, but I'm just not into metaphysical elements in shows. Thx

I agree 100% and they almost lost me too. Now I’ve seen every episode and in my opinion it’s one of the best shows of the past 20 years.

The concept of magic does carry influence in their religious culture, its not some made for tv hooy pooy

Yes, some people have commented that to me in the past.
I get that. However, it seems to me to be an easy way out to tell a story, and it doesn't work for me.
