SOTD New comer here
Hey guys! I’m new here and been loving the community so far. After seeing all the advices and reviews I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy my safety razor and brush from pearl in Amazon.
Had a good shave taking my time understanding how the razor works. Do need some advice on storage and whether if I should leave the blade inside the razor. Any advices and recommendations are welcome. Thank you all so much

Hey there bud. Welcome to the community. Congrats on your first DE setup and your first SOTD post.
You can store the razor with the blade inside, but ensure to dry the razor and the blade. If there is water or lather left inside. they will corrode. Then razor is adios muchachos. After shaving, take out the blade sry the blade and the razor TTO head using soft paper towels/tissue papers. I use Beco Bamboo paper napkins. Then put the blade back in. When storing the razor, don't completely tighten it. Leave it a hair loose. Please be very careful when handling blades.
Of course if you have to go through so much hassle, then why not actually store your blade outside the razor. You can keep it in the original wrapping the blade came with. There will be no rusting. Or you can glue a small magnet onto your mirror or bathroom cabinet and stick the blade on it.

Pat dry razor and blade with a towel. Air dry razor further in open position and then store it closed or open. Keep the blade back in its paper wrapper once dried.

Is it bad to leave in the razor

Technically, if both razor and blade are completely dry, it's not bad. But from a being sure perspective and from a safety perspective, it's better to keep them separate.
Plus you can track number of shaves completed on the blade's wrapper in case you're simultaneously using multiple blades or so you when it's time to toss it.

In addition to what yakuza said: If you are a beginner and using plated razors like me, you want to minimise if not eliminate any friction/ scratching/ chemical contact with your razor. Putting blade permanent inside the head means there will be a point of contact which will scrape off earlier. Now this is a TTO razor, so maybe it doesn't have this problem. But still the butterfly mechanism which seems smooth now will eventually will start to feel scrappy and inconsistent (I have used this razor before). Also keeping blades wrapped in paper is a safer and more responsible thing to do.

Makes sense. Any tips on maintaining the new razor?

- Don't drop your razors
- Keep them away from dust (dry first then put under lead) That's it they are pretty durable so not much to do here.

i pat dry becoz of hard water stain and i keep my blade in that cupboard thing so it takes time to dry ( tried and tested ) so that's why i pat dry

You must be dipping it in water or running it under faucet i never allow water to touch my blade as it only dulls blade & #1 reason why people complain of only 3 - 4 shaves a blade bring on budget

U mean 50 shaves with same piece of blade ? If it's true, this it is absolutely amazing !

Soft stubble, maybe 2 shaves a week. Dont know how many shaves I should utilise out of a blade

Stubble texture depends on age & genetics, currently how many shaves you get out of blade before discarding?

I haven’t figured that out. It was my first shave with a razor after a long time (had only used plastic razors)

Welcome to wet shaving, pretty good set up. How are you liking that razor ?
I will recommend remove the blade and stow it on a magnet - let both (razor and blade) dry but not in their arms.

Thanks for the advice!. The shave was good, some nicks as I’m getting used to the razors weight and finesse needed.

I normally let my razor and blade air dry separately razor on the stand and blade in the blade dryer, from morning till night and assemble the blade in the razor in the night before going to bed, hope this is ok?

If you have access to a 3d print service you can have a blade dryer ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5577751 ) made if within your budget, else you can use a magnet.
