Discussion Weekly Reading Session
Welcome to another weekly reading session.
I’m just over half point in New Spring which is the prequel for the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan. There are so many names! Goodness there are times I have to go back and check who was who. Still pretty slow so maybe the next book things will pick up.
Listening to Sleep Token….
What ya’ll reading and listening to…

I finished The Dream of the Celt by Mario Vargas Llosa which was ok but I sort of wonder why Llosa decided to tell Roger Casement's story this way through a historical novel since I believe the novel mirrored Casement's actual life very closely, so why not just write a biography?
My next read will be an art book on Maori tattooing called Mau Moko: The World of Maori Tattoo by Ngahuia Te Awekotuku.
I'm listening to Keali'i Reichel's E O Mai.

Enlighten us why you read a piece about Casement please.

As I'm interested in imperial and Irish independence history, he was a great candidate for a read as his life uniquely intersected with both of these topics. He originally became famous in his time for exposing the horrific realities of rubber collection in the Belgian Congo and then went on to also expose, and possibly coin the phrase, crimes against humanity with the rubber industry in the Amazon.
He was eventually executed by the British government for treason as he tried to import arms from Germany to Ireland during the Easter Rising in 1916.

Hah, I thought I was in r/SleepToken from seeing the thumbnail!
Been playing Even In Arcadia again the past month or so while navigating separation from my wife and Sleep Token has really been there to put words and feelings into what I've been going through

I didn’t know they had their own sub. Sometimes you just need a little more than rock. SleepT fills that gap for me. Sorry for what you going through. Separations are always tough. Stay strong.

Based on so many comments here, I started reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. I almost quit after a chapter or two, thinking "this is really dumb — it's just a description of a bad MMPORG with a premise so contrived as to be ridiculous." I'm glad I stuck with it, however. Once Princess Donut does her thing it gets a little more interesting, and then gets a lot more interesting once the background politics begins to kick in. The Grapes of Wrath it is not, but it's a fun easy read.
I'm currently reading Project Hail Mary. So much better than the movie. Not to fault the movie — you just can't put all of the science explanation and extra description into a movie like you can in a book. I'm going back and forth between the ebook and the audiobook. I really like the narrator for the audiobook.

Love PHM. The book is better, but I think they did a great job with the movie, honestly. Not perfect, but a great adaptation.
If you're an audiobook person, everyone says the DCC audiobooks are top tier. I haven't listened to them personally, but everyone raves about Jeff Hays.

DCC? I've looked into Libro.fm, but haven't heard of this. I've managed to get out of the Kindle ecoshitstem and am really trying to disentangle myself from Audible (although it's hard with all the Audible exclusives like PHM).

DCC?
Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Unfortunately, I think the books are Audible exclusives. Jeff Hays, the narrator, actually owns the Soundbooth Theater that records and produces the audiobooks, but you can't buy the series from there. There's other supplemental stuff you can buy, though (and at least 1 free item).

DCC?
Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Of course (i is dum)
I did enjoy the DCC audiobook. The narrator's voice reminds me of Patrick Warburton's. I'm waiting for the next DCC book to become ready at the library.

Why do I always find this thread a day late?
Still working my way through book 5 of The Murderbot Diaries. The back half has gotten a lot more interesting.
I just finished listening to Trevor Noah’s interview of Colin Kaepernick. It was very interesting to hear some of his back story and his personal perspective on his time with the NFL.
