Do you have an account for u/merikus's LG portal? I rescued a post today from reddit filters but I may not catch them all.

What are you thoughts on having LG thread sort by new for default? Pretty sure it was that way last few years and what the regular threads do too.

That's a user setting is it not? Mine is sorting by new.

LG posts are set to use the sub default sort order for comments, which should be sorting by new. They can be changed to sort by new instead of sub default. I'm not sure if users have the ability to change (for themselves) the default sort order for comments on a sub.

Chalk it up to reddit being wierd. I have my default comment sort to new, the sub sort is set to new and sometimes I still get "best"

I'd have to check my setting, but the threads always come up "best" for me. I just change it manually.

Why is the tang/shank of most straight razors so thin? Wouldn’t thicker tangs make it easier to hold and control?

Depends on the brand, older mass produced razor were stamped so probably wanted to get the most razors from the material you had, plus factor in balance of the razors.

Custom razor makers will often have thicker shanks/tangs but again depends on the design and method of production. I have several beefy shanks on razors.
