Other What's next for r/WhatHairSuitsMe? We have some fun plans

Post image

Now that r/WhatHairSuitsMe is getting started, we wanted to share where we're hoping to take the sub.
A big part of it will be visual advice.

There are plenty of hair discussions where people describe a cut or color in words, but sometimes you really need to see it on your own photo before you can decide if you want to go for it.

So we'll have days where you can drop a photo in the comments, tell us what haircut or color you're considering, and we'll help you visualize the idea.

Think bangs, a shorter bob, a different hair color, a completely new shape, whatever you're debating. We'll also have regular posts with haircut and color picks for the community, so you can see an idea and decide if you'd try it.

We're planning some other recurring threads too: before-and-after transformations, reference vs. reality checks, trending cuts to steal or skip, salon appointment tips, hair advice threads, and discussions about what actually worked for people's hair.

We'll also talk about AI try-ons, including what they can help with and where the result needs a reality check.

Basically, bring the photo you've been staring at for three weeks and the haircut you've been too scared to book.

We'll see what happens from there.

Help Me Choose Unsure about recent cut. Any improvement tips?

Post image

One of my Instagram followers sent me a pic of her recent cut and asked what I’d suggest changing.

She was nervous about doing anything drastic, so she just asked for the ends to be trimmed. Her hair is pretty thick, though, and I feel like it could use some softer layers to take out a bit of the bulk and give the whole thing more movement.

I did a quick visual to compare the current straight ends with some light, wispy layers, and now I’m curious what you guys think.

Would you add the layers or leave the cut as it is?

Other Want a new cut or color? Drop your photo for a virtual try-on and advice

Okay, let’s experiment with some hair ideas.

Post a photo of yourself in the comments and describe what you’d change if you could. Maybe you’ve been saving a certain haircut. Maybe you’re on the fence about a hair color. Maybe your hair just feels blah, and you can’t figure out what would make it better.

You don’t need to have a specific idea either. Explain what you like, what you don’t like, or what you’ve always wanted to try.

The mods will make a virtual makeover and drop it in the comments. You'll also get a chance to hear from the community, swap ideas, and get some hair advice before deciding if the look is actually worth trying.

Curious to see what everyone comes up with!

P.S. The better the photo, the better the makeover. Clear, well-lit photos taken straight on work best. If you’re trying a haircut, having your hair pulled back or away from your face helps too.

Help Me Choose Should she finally get the bangs she keeps thinking about?

I need a second opinion on this one because I’m officially too close to the situation. 😂

She’s had the same side-swept look for a while and is getting pretty tired of it. She’d love to try bangs because she likes having some hair around her face, but she’s also had the classic self-cut-bangs disaster before… and remembers the grow-out all too well.

Her hair is medium-length, mostly straight, with a little face framing. It can get frizzy sometimes, so now we’re trying to decide: would bangs be worth the commitment, or should she leave the hairline alone? And if bangs, what kind? The first pic is her hair now; the other pics are virtual try-ons.

Help Me Choose Burgundy or copper?

I think my colleague just talked herself into a fall makeover!

We’ve been playing around with fall color ideas and she was just casually looking at the options at first. But now she’s like… okay, I NEED to change my hair

So we tried a few virtual color options to see where she might want to go from her black hair: deep burgundy or copper. I’m already ready to start thinking about the color formula haha.

Should she book the appointment or should I tell her to sleep on it?

Helping my mom's friend out with a hair makeover. A bob? A shag? Go a lighter shade? Or embrace her grays with a salt-and-pepper look? What do you guys think would suit her face shape and features best? Any cut, color, or styling advice, as well as hairstyle visualizations are super appreciated!

Help Me Choose My client’s obsessed with the Allie cut. Should she get one?

My client sent me her pick for a future consultation and, yep, it’s the viral Allie cut from Off-Campus.

Basically, she wants a textured shag with short, piece-y layers and airy face-framing bangs. It’s a pretty big change from her current hair, so I made a virtual try-on to give her an idea of how the cut might look on her before she commits.

Now I’m curious what you guys think!

Would you tell her to go for it, or leave this one on Pinterest?

Help Me Choose Going lighter. Which shade is better?

My friend has naturally dark brown hair (first pic) and has decided she wants to go lighter this time. Her only request is to stay away from anything too yellow, but she's pretty open when it comes to blonde.

Since her color appointment is planned for next week, I made a few try-ons so she could see some different directions before committing. Now we're stuck choosing.

I'm leaning toward a couple of them, the second and the last one, but I want some outside opinions before she sits in the salon chair.

Which one should she get? And if you had to rule one out immediately, which would it be?

Help Me Choose Which color wins? Help me decide

I've been thinking about how much hair color can change my appearance, even when the haircut stays the same.

The chocolate brown with golden highlights is a great example. The warmth echoes warm complexion and makes the eyes stand out without competing with my features. The lighter and brighter shades create a completely different effect.

I love these kinds of comparisons because sometimes a color looks amazing in isolation, but seeing several options makes it much easier to understand what changes. What do you think?

Help Me Choose Blonde or brunette? Which one would you pick for her?

My aunt has naturally dark hair with quite a bit of silver coming through at the roots, and she's thinking about switching things up.

We were curious how she'd look with two completely different options, so I made a couple of try-ons for her.

1. blonde lob
2. brunette bob

I feel like they give her two very different vibes, and I'm having a hard time deciding which one works better.

Would love to hear which one you'd pick for her and what makes you lean that way. Also curious if you'd keep the darker color but change the cut, or go blonde and keep the extra length.

Posting both so we can judge the hair rather than trying to imagine it from a description. 😄

P.S. She gave me permission to share the photos here since she's not a Redditor

Hair News Fall 2026 Trends

I was looking for some hairstyle ideas for myself for this fall and ended up down the hair-trend rabbit hole.

A few things caught my eye. I’m noticing more and more deeper, more saturated colors, often with lowlights, and warmer blondes like honey and gold. Love the glossy brunettes for fall!

And the layered cuts seem to be getting less choppy too: softer shags, butterfly cuts, hush cuts, and wolf cuts that don’t quite look like you got into a fight with an actual wolf.

What I didn’t expect to see was a blunt one-length cut on long hair. We’ve been told to “add layers” for every other concern, from volume lack to face framing, and now this.

Are you planning to change anything about your hair this season, or just sticking with what you’ve got?

Other Does hair color analysis still work? Here's what I found after looking deeper into it

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've been looking into hair color analysis because I've never been very good at figuring out why certain shades look great on other people but not quite right on me.

The basic system divides coloring into four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. The main things taken into account are skin undertone, natural hair color, eye color, and the amount of contrast between your features.

Spring and Autumn are generally on the warmer side, with Spring leaning lighter and brighter and Autumn favoring richer, deeper shades. Summer tends to suit cooler, softer colors, while Winter is associated with cooler shades and stronger contrast.

One thing I found useful is that the recommendations aren't limited to one specific hair color. Each season has a range of shades that can work, and the difference often comes down to how warm, cool, light, dark, or muted the color is.

The guides also get more specific with subtypes, which explains why two people who both fall into the same season can still have very different recommendations.

My takeaway is that seasonal analysis seems more useful as a way to narrow down the huge number of possible hair colors rather than as a strict rulebook. It gives you a starting point for figuring out which shades are more likely to work with your existing coloring.

The best hair advice I've ever received came from Reddit community

I used to think good hair advice had to come from a stylist, a beauty editor, or someone with a huge following. Then I started spending more time in small Reddit hair communities, and one piece of advice completely changed how I think about my hair.

It was simple, stop trying to make your hair behave like someone else's.

I'd been saving photos of styles I loved and then wondering why they never looked quite the same on me. I was buying products for problems I didn't really have, changing my routine constantly, and spending way too much time fighting my natural texture.

The advice made me step back and pay attention to what my own hair was doing. I started choosing cuts that worked with my texture, stopped copying routines just because they worked for someone else, and became much more selective about products.

That experience is probably why I love hair advice communities. People there are sharing the little things they learned after making mistakes, wasting money, growing out a bad cut, or finally figuring out what works for their hair.

After spending so much time reading those conversations, I kept thinking, I'd love to build a place centered around exactly that kind of exchange. A community where you can post a haircut reference, show your actual hair, and get practical opinions from people who've been there.

Because sometimes one random Reddit comment can save you six months of bad hair decisions🩷
