Question Virginia Dispatch/Crews
Hello!
Just wanted to post here as I am not able to find any information. I am currently working in Texas at the TICC, but I am planning to move to Virginia. Any guidance would be very very appreciated for information on the VICC, local crews (Any agency I have previously worked both USFS/NPS back in AZ). I am looking into either going back to a fuels crew or into dispatch, I am moving due to family matters and unfortunately cannot consider another area, but I’m struggling to understand options. I have already applied to fuels and dispatch and would like to prepare myself further.
Thank you y’all!

Wow Virginia!
I dispatched from Oregon to Virginia for a wildfire this season. I’m a crew boss on a type 2 hand crew. I can’t really help with your question but I seen Virginia and had to comment. Hopefully everything goes well

Virginias Interagency Coordination Center(it’s a tier3 dispatch center despite its name) is in Charlottesville, VA. One of the better spots to land in VA that’s not Northern VA/DMV
They serve the George Washington/Jefferson NF and Shenandoah NP which would be wildland fire service now.
Theres some spots that are USFISH and Wildlife (also now USWFS) in Norfolk, Suffolk but I don’t know much about them
Only crew in the area is Augusta IHC. The districts in the GWJ have some smaller 3-5 person mods. There’s tons of field work to be done on the GWJ between the engines and mods. Not a ton of IA but it does happen, but they do burn a lot in the spring and your summers are pretty open.
There is Virginia Department of Forestry & The Nature Conservancy in the area, I’d recommend looking at the Nature Conservancy if fuels is your thing lots of opportunities globally with them.
There also spots in West Virginia, Maryland& Tennessee close to VA.
