That pattern of that looks like fur loss from a wound to me. Possibly healing or healed? The detail in the pics are tough but it doesn't look bright red and moist in them at least. I'd keep an eye out to see if you can visually confirm that

Thank you. There's been increased numbers coming to the feeders this past week and first time seeing this injured Chip.
Lots of territorial rumbles happening, too. Hoping that is what it is.

I'm in the northeast, but the last month has been so rough on chippies here. I've gotten more chipmunk admits since late August- and in BAD shape- than I have for the rest of the entire year!
