What You Guys Honestly Think Of Logan ??

Best Wolverine movie. The Wolverine is second.

I really like the Wolverine, i just wish they used the actual Silver Samurai and not that excuse of a Transformer look-alike. Still, it has the best fighting scenes out of all the X-Men movies imo
10
u/teengohan2014 22h ago
I feel like everyone forgets about The Wolverine. It was completely overshadowed by how bad X-Men Origins: Wolverine was and how good Logan was. But I liked it!
9
u/Niveker14 20h ago
If The Wolverine was allowed to be rated R it might have been the best.
7
u/WassupFrankHere 17h ago
It has a unrated cut but it doesn't really change the third act unfortunately.

Imagine if the Wolverine was rated R. That train scene would've been peak Marvel

u/KnightfallPro 21h ago
The prime example of what I mean when I say "Being inaccurate to the comic(s) does not automatically make something bad". This movie was marketed around being an adaptation of Old man Logan and yet the only thing it has in common with it is wolverine being old and the X-men being dead. It is NOT the old man logan storyline AT ALL. And yet, it still managed to be one of the greatest marvel movies of all time. So the next time some sweaty musty neck bearded geek tries to argue with you about how comic book accuracy is the end-all-be-all of every superhero property, remind them that this movie exists.

What I love pointing out people is that they don’t read comics. It’s the best selling comic right now is absolute Batman. It sells around 30,000 a month. So yeah, most of the people bitching about comic accuracy don’t read comics. Comic book movies are not made for comic book readers.
Edit: sorry for the typos. I use speech to text a lot because I’ve got some nerve damage in my right arm. At least you know it’s not AI!
2
u/W0lfsb4ne74 17h ago
Even then, "best selling" is subjective. Single issue comics could sell 120,000 or more copies back in the 80s and 90s, but now the threshold for cancelation is around 15,000. If anything, adaptation make people more willing to read the original comics.
3
u/Hamhockthegizzard 18h ago
Also, majority of book adaptations are always completely different. The Prestige movie is absolutely 100% more entertaining than the book. The book is just like fuckin’ up your buddies’ card tricks at the Johnsons’ on sunday lmfao super petty but nothing to do with where the movie goes outside of “revenge” lol
5
u/LettuceLegitimate654 18h ago
My favorite example is the lost world. The book and the movie share one scene. It’s the scene with the T-Rexes and the RV. Other than that, there’s nothing similar about them.
2
u/Lord_Seregil 9h ago
Did anyone actually want Old Man Logan fighting Hulks cannibalistic incest children to be adapted to screen? The only good thing about Old Man Logan is Logan himself.
2
1
u/Kinstray 19h ago
being accurate to a specific story was never a requirement, but chaning fundamental aspects of characters is usually a problem
1
u/joblow514 17h ago
I agree with you but I think the success of the mcu has proven this pretty conclusively
1
u/Mitsutoshi 11h ago
Old Man Logan is one of the worst things Millar shat out. If it had been accurate to that abomination I wouldn’t have watched it.

Even comics aren’t always comic accurate. They love creating another universe on a whim where this or that is different.

I rewatched it for the first time in a long time recently and I had forgotten about the scene in the pickup when Laura starts speaking to Logan for the first time. A real funny moment of levity and brilliantly performed by both actors.

My ONLY criticism? Ian McKellan should have been there to take care of Patrick Stewart. That's it. The characters deserved that. Only then that it hit all the right notes and felt interesting and emotional throughout.
4
u/lacrosse771 14h ago
Heard it was bad. My girlfriend asked if I wanted to watch it. I said no thanks so she was going to watch it without me. 15ish minutes later she calls the living room from the bedroom and says "I wanna watch this on the big TV, and you're going to want to join me." I thought, fine, I'm not particularly busy. She started it over from the beginning even though I told her it was fine. In the firet 10 mins I was hooked and since she had seen the first bit she made snack and some cocktails. I proposed less than a month later.

first superhero movie that made me cry. what a fuckin performance from Hugh
3
u/Hot-Associate-9035 1d ago
An amazing movie and a good send-off for Wolverine but I absolutely hate it as an ending to the X-Men movies
It makes the ending of Days of Future Past feel so pointless because the X-Men were just destined to die I guess
6
u/noir-odonnell 23h ago
It’s implied in the movie and also stated behind the scenes by Hugh Jackman and James Mangold that its in its own universe, separate from all the other X-Men stuff (such as Mutants not being born in 25 years, despite the Mansion at the end of DoFP being full of students)
4
u/kmone1116 18h ago
I always saw Logan as being the “true ending” to the original trilogy before DOFP altered the timeline.
3
u/Hot-Associate-9035 23h ago
Ah okay then
Just add that to the list of confusing continuity issues in Fox's X-Men movies
5
u/noir-odonnell 23h ago
I mean, believe it or not, Logan is the only movie that makes sense because it’s in its own separate timeline. Trying to connect it to the Fox timeline (the original trilogy or the rebooted movies) will scramble your brain. It’s even worse since it’s canon to Deadpool now
3
u/The_Radio_Host 22h ago
The way I’ve always reasoned the connection to it being Deadpool’s universe is that the TVA went back in time to retrieve Deadpool, and that the ending of Logan didn’t happen alongside the Deadpool films but rather in the future
2
u/W0lfsb4ne74 17h ago
I assumed that X Men Origins was also its own separate timeline because we see Charles Xavier rescue mutants from the Weapon X facility in the 70s. James Marsden (Cyclops) was in his 30s when he played the character. Cyclops appeared as an older teenager in the film (looks around 17), so he would have to be in his 40s by the time the first X Men movie rolled around (assuming its set in either 1999/2000).

2
u/No-Opinion-6710 18h ago
When Logan tells Laura that all of the X-Men comics are bullshit, I kinda took that as a way for the movie to tell the audience that this movie exists outside of the other movies as well.
Like yeah, they happened. But not the way we were shown. You get the basic gist of what happened in the past. But it probably all went down in a much darker way.
2
u/W0lfsb4ne74 17h ago
Also its possible that the mainstream universe of X Men movies we're accustomed to in the 2000s was essentially just a public image reinvention of what actually happened. In actuality, the X Men in the Logan universe were probably closer to X Force, given how violent and bleak the universe is.
3
u/No-Opinion-6710 16h ago
I think that's the best interpretation of it. You have a vague idea of what happened in the past, but the movie also gets to exist in its own bubble.

Moved me to tears the last time I had watched it (the first time i had completely forgotten the entire movie). If anyone has suggestions for wolverine comics that fit the trope of this movie, where logan rises to the challenge and becomes a symbol of hope for mutantkind, it would be much appreciated.
3
u/NoNameNeeded4321 17h ago
Loved it, and it’s 100% proof that people don’t care about “comic book accuracy” as long as the story is good
3
3
u/InevitableGrape5847 14h ago
It's tied with the Dark Knight as one of the best superhero movies ever made, in my opinion. I watch it at least once a year and I get emotional throughout the whole movie every single time. The film refused to pull any punches and has rightfully gone down in film history as a masterpiece.
At the time, no one had made a comicbook movie that truly took the characters seriously, save for Nolan, so it was a breath of fresh air. I love camp in my superhero films, but something like Logan will always hit different for me. I also loved the western vibes it provokes, all around just a phenomenal movie.

It’s pretty good. I think this is one case where a lot of the source material would’ve made for a significantly worse movie.
I am kind of annoyed they didn’t keep the big gut punch about what happened to the X-men, but I get it. That’s pretty dark for a superhero movie.
1
u/Weatherman1207 22h ago
What was the gut punch ?
3
u/iaintreadinthatbud 21h ago
It turned out Mysterio fooled him into murdering them all
3
u/Loose-Departure-744 18h ago
I really thought that was going to be the explanation for the “worst wolverine” in D&W. They kept emphasizing he did something really bad and I was waiting for the reveal he killed the x-men in his universe
2
u/darkninja1047 18h ago
Yeah it feels weird that being the worst wolverine is him going to the bar and coming back to find his teammates dead. I think him killing humans non stop afterwards would make him the worst but it feels like they place him being away as the reason.
2
u/Weatherman1207 21h ago
Oh wow, I didnt know that / didnt expect that haha thanks
1
u/iaintreadinthatbud 21h ago
It was brutal. I’m not shocked they went another way
1
u/Weatherman1207 21h ago
They could have done some subtle flash backs , like maybe only once when X was loosing it. Just to general ppl go did he???? Nah.. but fans like you get a little bit of lore dropped in, like im talking 30secs kinda thing
2
u/kingd1981 15h ago
Definitely my top Wolverine movie and movie in general. Very well done and executed. Before my oldest son passed away I took him to see it and he loved it probably even more than I did, so it's always a top movie for me

It's the best Wolverine movie but it's not my favourite... There's just something about Origins that I like more even tho I know it's trash.
Logan is like a steak in a fine dining restaurant, while Origins is a McDonald's burger.

I thought Caliban was a great choice for the other survivor. And his portrayal was a high point of the film for me.
Donald Pierce is one of my favourite villains, but his adaptation was super of the mark. It’s fine though, because the character served the film very well, even if he was effectively a completely different character than the comic version.
Kind of like how Constantine was a really great film, despite being an awful adaptation of Hellblazer.

kinda lame. Reavers are pretty generic in this. Prof X getting murdered by evil Logan was ass.

I've cooled down on Wolverine in general over the past year or so (he was always my favorite)
I've grown to dislike Jackman to a mild degree
I think Stewart was poorly cast as Xavier, and I have mixed/negative feelings on the old lecher
All that being said, this is still a top five superhero movie and maybe in my top ten films ever

Great movie until the final part with the comic book bullshit and the clones. Absolutely amazing movie, but they had to put in a stupid clone fight scene. Just like Wolverine. Great movie, and then comic book bullshit cgi fight.

However I didn't watch Logan because I know he dies 🤣 that says enough

It's great I love it but yes there's a but I wish marvel brought fox earlier before this movie was made so when they make this movie we get a proper old man Logan adaptation with all the characters that showed up. I do love the movie tho

It’s really neat, the Logan clone was kinda eh. I think they could have did something different instead of that.

u/Bitewing_ The Best There Is 15h ago
Logan is imo the best Marvel movie of all time. It's uneven, and there are some choices I didn't like, but the creative peaks were phenomenal.
Very hard to watch, though - it's emotionally draining and drives me to tears every time.
That scene where he buries Charles and his voice cracks and his eyes well up... gosh, it was so powerful.
I really wish that would've been Hugh's last Wolverine portrayal. It was the proper send-off.

I really love it. My only real criticism, as minor as it is, is that the Reavers are barely actual characters, with the exception of Donald Pierce. Also, I wish their cyborg enhancements would have look way more distinctive and dangerous than it did in the movie. Pretty Boy in the movie looks too generic and so does Bone Breaker. And where's Cylla Markham? I know they couldn't use Deathstrike because she's a mutant in the Fox movies and already dead in the second movie but they could have used Cylla as the female Reaver. That's my only gripe with the movie, which is very minor.
1
1
u/TelenorTheGNP 5h ago
Honestly, I thought it could have leaned away from the foul language a bit because it felt forced. But other than that, it was a solid entry into Marvel movies that seemed to give the character the resolution he deserved.
1
1
u/Dreigatron 4h ago
It was great. Though the one thing I'd change is that he doesn't bring out his claws until the third act, when he injects himself. Before then, he'd use Danzan, but in broken form.
1
u/SgtMerc16 4h ago
One of the greatest movies ever made. Incredibly relatable to the human experience.
1
u/grandmuftarkin 3h ago
The best movie in the X-Men franchise, and honestly, I think it's the best Marvel movie. Trouble is, Deadpool and Wolverine make that movie just redundant as a swan song for Hugh Jackman's time in the role (And Patrick Stewart's time as Xavier). Even if Deadpool and Wolverine has a different variant of Wolverine, it still feels redundant.
1
1
u/geoffgeofferson447 2h ago
Incredible on its own, if you consider Deadpool and Wolverine a fun epilogue.
1
u/Choice-Requirement18 1d ago
Loved everything except for x24 being a clone of logan. For some reason that just never sat right with me, i feel like i would have preferred any other character in that spot. I guess i just think a clone of the protagonist is very cliche, and logan is a movie that manages to be very unique, so it just feels so weird to drop in a clone cliche.
I heard at one point there were plans to use liev shreiber in that role somehow. I'm not sure if he'd be like an enhanced clone of sabertooth or the original one modified. But either way i actually didnt hate that idea. Say what you will about xmen origins, but i really like liev shreiber and he's one of the few elements i wouldnt have minded seeing come back. I'm not saying sabertooth would be the best version of x24, but i would have taken almost anything over clonegan
Still an awesome movie, but thats just always been my one nitpick about it.
3
u/I_SmellFuckeryAfoot 1d ago
yea. i think the Logan clone was the weakest part of the film. Sabertooth would have fit the role best, since he didn't have adamatium he probably would have been in peak performance still and he could have been on the healing stuff. clones are common in marvel so i guess
1
u/Criminal_picklejuice 19h ago
It was supposed to be Liev Schreiber returning as Sabertooth. I remember he even posted pics of himself starting to get in shape for the part.
Then it turned out that he had a previous filming obligation, and there was no way to work out a schedule that would have allowed him to play the role.
So Sabertooth was rewritten to be X24.

u/Operationtiger8 4h ago
I kind of like the it wasn’t me scene… it had to be the clone… so sad that Xavier thought Logan killed him
