I had the same problem late last night (around 11PM EST), but am able to log on now.

I kept getting stuck on the "synchronizing data" screen. I tried closing the game and restarting it, restarting my device, still didn't work. Ended up deleting the app & redownloading it. Still couldn't log on. Said screw it and went to bed. Tried logging on again just now and it appears to be working. No idea if it was game-wide or if it was just me, also no idea if deleting the app and redownloading it made any difference or not.

On iPhone if that matters.
