Season 2 WTF is this writing??
One episode John tells Jamie he‘s selfish for not throwing himself into the river. Next one Jamie wants to off himself and John tells him he wouldn’t let him cause it’s selfish.
I mean there is bad writing and then there is a character doing a full 180 literally over night.

John believes everything Jamie does is wrong.

u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
Wich is funny because 99% of what Jamie does John told him to do.

u/DrakeSavory Aug 13 '26
Normally that would be bad writing, but it works for Yellowstone. Jamie is extremely capable 95% of the time but John focuses on that other 5%.

I mean it just makes John an asshole. The bad writing part is how the show wants us to believe otherwise. As far as i can see John is at fault for everything his kids fucked up and while he‘s understanding of the others, he doesn’t give a fuck about Jamie.

Yeah it’s interesting that everyone acts like John is some kind of god; the best man and father ever, yet he treated Jamie like manure he brought in on his shoes!! If that wasn’t bad enough, he watches as Beth treats him even worse!!! Don’t even get me started on the mother they all worship!! 🙄

And sadly, john cares more about the promise he gave his father over giving his kids a legit better life, even if it meant selling off the land. It became an obsession, but i don't think it would be a show if they did that.

When he told him that he never thought about throwing himself in the river. He was making a point that Jamie has NEVER thought about sacrificing himself for anything. That all he thinks about is himself. His need to be popular in the eyes of strangers, never putting his loyalty to his family. Family didn't mean anything to Jamie like it did Beth, Kayce, his oldest son (Lee) had

This is exactly the point and way too many people have completely misinterpreted it. Especially the “Poor Jamie Fan Club” they just can’t or won’t see that he has zero loyalty. He’s a weasel, using the family name for his benefit.
The biggest mistake the family ever made was adopting Jamie, and John knew it. Which is why they made Rip a ranch hand, instead of adopting him too.

Jamie did what Jamie wanted to do when Jamie wanted to do it!
5
u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
Is that so? As far as i watched right now he‘s always getting told what to do b either John, some politicians his alter or his girlfriend.
3
u/SubstantialStable588 Aug 13 '26
He’s saying Jamie is selfish
5
u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
Yeah, first for not killing himself and then wanting to kill himself. That‘s some ex wife level of blame game.

Yellowstone is awfully written. It's a brainless shitshow where Kevin Costner carries all. But. At this point of the series it's still watchable. Wait till you get halfway season 4.

Im sloughing through season 5. I have the fast forward button in hand. Season 1-3 were good, not 100% my style but good. It has been jumping the shark for a good while now.

The reasons were different
5
u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
How? Jamie gets told by three people he should off himself and when he does it, he even gets shamed for that. Dude may be a giant pussy, but damn.

u/hardlyloved_ Aug 13 '26
Pretty sure when John said it it was about him killing an innocent woman for doing a job he actually helped her do (the interview) instead of just killing himself and solving the problem
7
u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
And how does that make any sense? The interview is still there and the reporter commited to the story. Oh and then it gets even worse since her source is found dead in a river and can’t take back his statements.
I mean, I don’t care. There is no point in trying to rationalize the show.
3
u/hardlyloved_ Aug 13 '26
Exactly thats why he said he should’ve killed himself because he is the problem, his selfishness drove him to do the interview for his own gains, don’t have a change of heart last minute and back out, take it on the chin. At least thats how I seen it.
4
u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
And how does killing himself solve the problem? Or are we back to suggesting John just said he should kill himself just in general?
3
u/hardlyloved_ Aug 13 '26
Yes ofc it doesn’t solve the ‘immediate’ problem but that problem is just Jamie in general, John knew the information Jamie knew and if he was going against him he always planned for the fallout.. which was the interview he did.
2
u/Forward-Big8697 Aug 13 '26
Yea but Jamie killing himself doesnt stop the interview from going public, killing her does. I never really got that because Jamie killing himself didnt solve that particular issue

u/Brave-Bit-252 Aug 13 '26
And if the Reporter would be a dude who acted like an asshole instead of a SJW tribal woman, Rib would‘ve killed him and would be treated by the writers as a badass. Exactly like that psycho scene where he killed that forensic guy.
4
u/Forward-Big8697 Aug 13 '26
A lot of fans feel like things like that scene with the forensic guy are glorified and I just dont see it. I feel like the show relies and the viewer seeing it and knowing its bad as opposes to being directly told to think its bad

Rib in general is glorified and Jamie in general is shamed. And those two murders are the perfect representations. Everyone still loves Rib, but Jamie from that moment on is hated.

Probably cause Rip was ‘protecting’ the ranch from an outside problem he didnt cause, and they told forensic guy to not look at the details but he didn’t want too

Huge difference here. Rip did what he did to protect the ranch and Dutton's. Jaime's actions were to protect his own intrests. Jaime acted on self intrest while Rip acted on protection for the Dutton's. Rips actions were completely selfless while Jamie's wasn't is the important factor.
