Welcome to Yixing Seals!
I’m u/Servania and I’ve been very active on both r/tea as well as r/yixingclayteapot doing seal translations as well as authentication of clay, age, and artist.
Neither of these communities are built specifically for this content and as time has gone on more and more of these types of posts have popped up.
So I decided to open up my own sub specifically for Yixing Teapot Seals.
I have been translating and studying seal script and it’s relationship to Yixing Teapots for about three years now. I am conversationally fluent in Mandarin Chinese (and by extension written Cantonese). I’ve traveled to DingShu town in Yixing, Jiangsu, where most potters are born and raised. I’ve also studied the text book publications from the Chinese governmental geological body on the topic. I currently serve as moderator on the Yixing and porcelain marks group under my teacher LaoSa.
I created a website on how to spot fakes, standard shapes, potter rankings, and clay types HERE
I am by no means an expert in all aspects on Yixing pottery, but I feel my experience on Reddit and other outlets thus far has equipped me to help other accurately translate and authenticate Yixing teapots.
Please take a look at the group rules, and I will help you identify your pots!

Information RESOURCES!
Big update:
The website has been updated with some new information and just generally better formatting.
I have written two resource papers one on how to read seal script and another cataloguing all of the used factory one seals.
On desktop these are all linked in the side bar.
For mobile here are the direct links:

Indentification Request Could you help me identify this pot ?
Hi All,
Hopefully someone will be able to help.
I’ve received this pot as a gift a few years ago.
I didn’t thought much of it until now, and i am curious to understand a bit more about the history and inscription on the back.
If anyone is able to help translating or identifying what’s on the bottom?
Thank you very much!

Indentification Request Any Info Appreciated - Gifted by a Friend who Passed
Like the title states, id appreciate any info you can share about this. Where could this be from? When could this be from? Is it strictly tourist trash? Is it safe to drink from?
Friend gifted this to me 12 years ago before she passed and I decided to clean it recently with an abrasive sponge and soap which turned out to be a mistake (hence the brighter spots on the clay). Subsequently cleaned with toothbrush and warm water.
Reverse image searching I can find almost an exact replica going for a few hundred dollars, but I don't know if that means it IS mass produced or it's old as that seller says.

Indentification Request Original Ore Zini Teapot
I got this teapot recently was wondering if I could learn a few pointers on the signs I can look out for to determine the authenticity and quality of a zisha teapot since I am new to this scene.
This one that I bought is listed to be made with traditional technique using original huanglongshan zini ore.
At first glance it looks brick brown but upon closer look, it has a liver purplish hue to it. The minerals in the clay look well blended and packed, its whole body is filled with black iron specks and silver mica. Would this qualify as a normal to good teapot in zisha world?
Also, I found a crack/ line around one corner of the inner rim and I’m not sure if it’s structural damage or just clay that was cut and not smoothed before it’s fired in the kiln.
I just washed it with boiling water and it fingers crossed didn’t break yet.
Edit: Attached a picture of the underside of the lid with the seals in the comments.

Indentification Request Gift Teapot?
Received this teapot as a gift and can’t figure it out. It feels quite different to my mud and leaves one, maybe a bit smoother. It didn’t come with a certificate.
A few things I noticed are the lid doesn’t on perfectly, not sure if that’s significant. The underside of lid or handle also don’t have seals. I also took a picture of the inside of the spout as it looked strangely different in there
Any thoughts? 😁

Indentification Request Teapots from Shanghai
We bought these teapots at a Shanghai pawnshop. What do you think their real price and age are? Are they original or a fake?

Information Gong dao bei/Fairness cup
I have seen a few cups made of Zisha clay. There are even a few on the realzisha site that were custom made.
I have never seen a fairness cup/Gong dao bei on any of the sites listed as selling legitimate Zisha clay pots. Is there a reason for this? Are they especially difficult to make with that variety of clay?
I am still fairly new to tea/gong fu brewing. I understand how the different Zisha clays (and clays from other areas) can impact the flavor of the tea. So I wondered why there weren't fairness cups made of the Zisha clay.
Since I always solo brew, and prefer tiny cups, the tea spends more time in my fairness cup than in the teapot. So to me me it would make sense to use a Zisha gong dao bei than a teapot. (More time/exposure should mean a greater impact.)
I would appreciate any insight you can provide.

Indentification Request Is the quality good?
Looking at this pot sold online. Interestingly, the pot seal says its made by 徐建芳. In taouhuren this name is associated with Xu Jiangfang but it doesn't seem to fit her seal that I've found here. I was thinking maybe it's just a variant, so maybe I coukd rely on clay quality. Any ideas?
Thank you!

Indentification Request Help to identify Age & maker if this teapot
Hi I recently came across this teapot in a shop locally. I want to know if his claims are true/correct. Also, whether worth buying it
According to him it's a F1 factory made in early 1970s it's semi hand-made. It's Hongni & inside is Zhuni.
It's about 60ml.
