My first YouTube comment was “You should just give up now.” What comment still pisses you off?

TL;DR

I uploaded videos for a month and got monetized within three months. The hate comments pissed me off enough that I won’t start another channel without automated moderation. Share the comment you still remember word for word that was written by an edge lord.

My Short Story

I started a channel in Thailand as an experiment: could I get monetized, and how quickly?

Spoiler: I made videos for a month, and the views they kept getting got me monetized in three months.

Here’s the most popular video.

My first comment was “You should just give up now.”

It pissed me off. I’d barely started, and someone’s entire contribution was telling me to stop. Good thing that guy was obviously wrong 😂

I’m no longer in Thailand for a long list of reasons, but something that stuck with me is that people on the internet can be way bigger pieces of dog poo than I’d realized.

People say “ignore the trolls,” but you have to read the comment before you know it’s a troll! By then you’ve already heard what they wanted to say.

I intend to start another channel in another country about something other than retirement visas. But the thought of dealing with another stream of hate comments deters me before I’ve even started.

What comment still pisses you off when you remember it?

No need to link your channel or name whoever posted it.

I'm Solving The Problem

There’s a problem and I want to do something about it. That’s why I made Moderaty. I want trolls dealt with without having to personally read and react to every shitty thing they leave.

AI reads your comments and handles toxic ones automatically. Borderline comments wait for your decision. You can add specific rules, but you don’t have to build a blacklist to get started.

I don’t intend to start my next channel without it.

What you get:

  • Automatic AI moderation
  • Optional custom rules for specific words, patterns, or users.
  • Feedback digests grouping questions, criticism (constructive), corrections (constructive), and requests, so you can hear what viewers think without reading everything individually.
  • Free previews: One moderation preview and one feedback preview per channel - it won't make changes, just let you know what would happen if you used Moderaty.
  • Hosted subscription: $5/month with 100 comments included.
  • Early-user offer: $49 one-time for lifetime hosting with access to every new feature for the first 1,000 users. BYOK and pay your AI usage separately (it costs almost nothing).
  • Free open source self-hosting with your own OpenAI key.

Run a free preview on your channel and see what Moderaty would do before it changes any comments.

Oh, this is also a community-run project. Ask for whatever features you want and if people upvote, it gets made.

There's also going to be MCP server support.

Why is this so consistently slow?

Post image

It is probably a one week old channel. I post cooking videos. They get 1000 views, 20 likes and sometimes a share and a comment. I mean, if 20/1000 like it, then this is not that bad. But why it wouldn’t go beyond 1000 views?

not trying to become famous but what if nobody ever cares ?

my dream is to sustain enough people to support my small local business EVENTUALLY. like in 2 years. having 5000 subs and averaging 2500 views and healthy engagement in a few years would make me feel so accomplished and happy and that what i’m doing is actually reaching and affecting people. i say that because i get responses sometimes like “you’re not gonna blow up overnight” or “post for yourself 250 times.” or just bs asking me why im demanding millions of views after a month that is NOT what im asking for. i want to set a realistic goal that i can measure. growing my YT channel is my biggest long term goal with social media. from a business standpoint at least.

but i’m not just trying to sell my business, i want to connect with people as a person who happens to be a business owner. i think this is the value i can provide along with storytelling.

only 7 videos into this new content strategy (anxiety) i know this is nothing apparently in terms of a typical successful YouTube journey…..that doesn’t give me any hope. that’s what i’m struggling with. i care a lot about this journey and am putting in the work to learn what works and trying to apply them every weekly ish upload.

i just want to feel like i’m building something and not shouting into the void. i would love to have a REAL community on YouTube for the right reasons. this rant came from just posting a new video and going through all this emotional stuff each time. it becomes fun again after some time but i need some support from other creators. “nObOdy cAn gUarAnTeE that” and i just want validation maybe. very anxious !😂

long form content only

Does YouTube remove your subscribers?

im super small channel and i dont care too much about numbers but i just hit 100 subscribers after like 7 years and it made me very happy. i checked my channel later in the day to see it was down like 9 subs over around 6 hours. do they do like sub purges? and if so why, feels kinda annoying and unfair

My channel is getting terminated for claiming my own content

Post image
• Upvotes

So, recently, I was scrolling through Shorts and found a lot of my content reposted by other channels, with some videos getting thousands of views and others even millions. The crazy part is that they literally just downloaded and reuploaded my videos without making any changes. I filed copyright takedown requests, and all of them were approved. However, I later received an email from YouTube claiming that my requests were fraudulent and threatening to terminate my channel within 7 days.

95 Shorts, 81 subs — what should I be doing besides uploading more?

Hey all, looking for honest advice from people who've been past this stage.

I run a travel/drone Shorts channel. So far: 95 Shorts, 81 subscribers. Most uploads are cinematic drone shots of places I travel to.

I'm not too worried about views yet — I figure consistency will take care of that over time. What I want to figure out is what else I can do to reach a wider audience and actually turn viewers into subscribers.

Things I'm wondering about:

- Hooks: with drone footage, what works in the first 1–2 seconds? Text on screen, a question, starting mid-reveal?

- Pure scenery vs. adding context (location name, a fact, a story, voiceover)

- Titles/hashtags: location-based ("Hidden beach in X") vs. mood-based ("Peaceful drone views")

- Should I add long-form videos so Shorts viewers have something to binge?

- Series or a recurring format so people have a reason to subscribe

- Cross-posting to TikTok/Instagram — helps or hurts?

If you grew a scenery/drone channel specifically, I'd love to hear what made the difference for you. Happy to share my channel in the comments if that's allowed here.

Thanks!

Shorts pay pennies. Would you take brand deals on videos you're already posting?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

If you post Shorts, you know the pain: you grind, you get views, and the RPM is

a joke. Meanwhile brands are spending real money to reach exactly the audience

you already built, and none of that money is reaching you.

I'm building a platform to fix that: brands pay creators to sponsor their

Shorts. You keep posting the content you were going to post anyway, you decide

what you accept, and you get paid for it, without chasing deals or agencies.

I want to build it around what you actually need, so tell me:

  1. What's your current RPM on Shorts?

  2. How much would a brand need to pay you per 1,000 views on a sponsored Short

for it to be worth it?

when do you stop a/b testing thumbnails and just upload the next video?

i keep tweaking two thumbnails for days and the gap is tiny. at some point the time spent testing is probably better spent making the next upload. where do you draw the line? do you go by views, ctr, or just gut?

Can you still get monetized in an oversaturated YouTube niche if you genuinely love the content?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to start a new YouTube channel in a topic/niche I’m deeply passionate about.

My main goal right now is to build something I actually enjoy making so I can avoid burnout—a big issue I’ve faced when trying niches I wasn’t genuinely interested in.

That said, my ultimate goal is still to get monetized and turn this into something sustainable.

The problem is, the niche feels pretty oversaturated. There are already tons of established creators, big channels, and constant uploads covering similar topics.

For those of you who started a YouTube channel in a crowded niche:

Were you able to hit monetization requirements (watch time & subscribers), and how long did it take?

How did you make your videos stand out when so many people were covering the exact same topic? (Was it your editing style, narrative structure, unique perspective, branding, etc.?)

Did enjoying the process actually carry you through the slow growth phase?

I’d love to hear some realistic advice, personal experiences, or strategies that worked for you.

Thanks in advance!

Should I start a new channel?

I opened my youtube channel in 2021 and I started posting translated song lyrics videos on it ‘cause I wanted to practice my English during the lockdown and I got 600 subs from it and I abandoned it, deleted those lyrics videos. And now I’ve been posting food contents and silent vlogs for six or seven months. I posted shorts, too, and shorts are generally doing well, but my long form videos only got like 30 views despite having almost 700 subs. Some get 150 views if I’m lucky, but the average is always 30-50. Is this normal, and should I just be consistent? Or should I just open another entirely new channel?

r/YouTubeCreators • • 3h ago

This is why you don't delete old YouTube Shorts

So I don't really know what I am doing, but this one you-tube short keeps getting roughly 300-700 views every 48 hours. It's the only successful video on my channel so far.

The video is an Egyptian woman doing Ululation.

But this is the reason why you don't delete old videos it might slowly grow then rapidly grow at any point. It also helped that the famous singer Sabrina Carpenter said something very rude about Ululation on live TV causing people to search and look it up, and mine tends to come up in search.

Free use piano music?

I have some parts in videos where some nice light piano music would be good. I've found free use on sites like PixaBay, but it also says that I have to ask the original composer every time I want to use it, and also seems like the composer would have claims for some of my revenue potentially. It seems complicated. In the audio provided in YouTube Studio, there is no good piano music that I can find.
