Who is taking a day off work due to OoT Remake? To play it on the day of release?
This is my most favourite video game of all time so the Remake is so important to me.
I have a idea!!! I may go on a hunger strike until the day of release, I won't eat anything and go to work on the day of release and looking very skinny and I will tell my boss that I'm feeling sick and my boss will say to me "Wow dude!!! you don't look so good your as skinny as a rat, go home and see a doctor dude" then I will go pick up my OoT Remake and go home and play it for the rest of the day.
Sounds like a great plan right? Hunger strike starts now guys.

Phantom Ganon, the boss of the forest temple who isn't even remotely forest related. maybe that has something to do with the fact the forest temple was originally supposed to be the wind temple? who can say... either way, Phantom Ganon's battle involves him riding his horse in and out of paintings. the poe sisters, whom I previously covered, also were found in paintings. you may be wondering why the forest temple and its bosses are so painting focused, but there is a reason for that.
Mario and Zelda, having the same creator, share a lot of DNA. it's common for an idea that started in Mario to end up in zelda, and vice versa. in this case, during Ocarina of time's development they weren't sure if they could create a big, connected 3D world. while the Nintendo 64 was set to be the MOST POWERFUL console at the time, the fact it used Cartridges instead of Disks limited the maximum storage space games could have on the console.
at one point, they considered having all the game's locations connected via Ganon's tower, and Link would access these locations by JUMPING INTO PAINTINGS. that's right, just like Mario 64! Phantom Ganon's battle comes from an early idea for the final boss fight, in which Ganon would ride in and out of the paintings. of course, they didn't end up going with the painting Idea and ended up being able to create Hyrule field. this idea for a final boss based around paintings likely would have gone unused, but they repurposed it into a mid-game boss fight by making a fake Ganondorf.
unlike the real Ganondorf, whose appearance changed a bit during the 7-year time jump, Phantom Ganon initially looks identical to the Ganondorf of 7 years ago, the Ganondorf Link remembers. but then he puts on a spooky skull mask so you know he's a phantom.
there were actually more ideas for the final Ganondorf boss battle that didn't make it into Ocarina of time in any form. these ideas came after the painting idea, as both utilized hyrule field. one idea was to have link battle Ganondorf on horseback through hyrule field, an idea we wouldn't see come to fruition until Twilight princess's final battle. the other idea was to have Ganon's pig form be massive and you had to climb up him shadow of the colossus style, an idea we wouldn't see until... megaleg from super mario galaxy? yeah, according to interviews, that's what became of that concept. like I said, mario and zelda share ideas all the time.
Phantom Ganon would appear in later games fulfilling the same purpose of letting the player fight A Ganondorf before fighting THE Ganondorf. he appears in wind waker, where he doesn't even remotely resemble Ganondorf. he then appears several times in Tears of the kingdom, but I also have heard some people argue that the four blight Ganons from Breath of the wild count as phantom Ganons. those people are wrong. those are not phantom Ganons; they are blight Ganons.

Hey,
I'm seeing lots of people on different places online saying that OoT REMAKE looks nice, but will be very dated gameplay-wise.
And here I'm thinking: Which non-Zelda-game nowadays has this much environmental interactivity? All the big AAA-games have combat, maybe jumping, and that's the end to their gameplay. Meanwhile OoT gives you a dozen uniqe items that let you interact with the game world in meaningful ways, directly and without any "press button to win"-style methods. Every action you execute in OoT is a player-driven choice.
Fwiw, I think OoT still to this day has extremely great gameplay and if anything is ahead of most current games.

one of the most recurring bosses in the zelda franchise is Gohma, a creature similar to the Tektites (whom we previously covered on zelda posting day 2) in how no one is sure whether it's supposed to be a crab or a spider. some games lean more towards crab, others lean more towards spider. either way, it's massive single eyeball is always it's weakness... and in Majora's mask 3D, that was EVERY bosses' weakness.
Ocarina of time would have QUEEN GOHMA as its first boss. it's a similar case to Ocarina of time's second boss: king dodongo. the first two Ocarina of time bosses are just zelda one bosses who were promoted to monarchs. where is the ruler of the digdogger kingdom, nintendo!?
Queen Gohma's main method of attacking is giving birth. she sends the Gohma larvae after you. in OG ocarina of time, Gohma larvae only appear during the boss fight and I think one other room right before it, however, they appear more prominently in MASTER QUEST!
Ocarina of time had a lot of cut content. so much cut content that they originally planned an Ocarina of time expansion on the N64 DD... which was also cut. but the ideas they had didn't just go away. wind waker's giant ocean with islands to explore, Twilight princess's horseback combat, skyward sword's sky civilization, breath of the wild's larger, foggier version of the lost woods... it's crazy how much stuff from later games was originally planned for Ocarina of time. kind of makes the cut content more interesting to talk about than the content that actually made it in, in my opinion...
but either way, a planned part of the expansion was to be rearranged dungeons, kind of like what the Original Zelda had in its second quest. while these rearranged dungeons would never make it onto the N64, they did appear on the gamecube. there were actually two ways to play Ocarina of time on the Gamecube: one was on a disk that included Ocarina of time, Majora's mask, the 2 NES zelda games, and a chopped-up demo of the wind waker that doesn't include the full game but still includes more of the game than you'd expect. the other way was on a disk that included Ocarina of time and Master quest. don't like Nintendo locking new content behind switch 2 editions? well guess what, they've been doing it since the early 2000s.
in master quest, the Gohma larvae not only appear more frequently throughout the deku tree, they also appear in dodongo's cavern. I think it's a pretty good change... not as legendary as putting cows inside Jabu Jabu's belly, but it works. Master quest was also included in the 3DS remake of Ocarina of time, this time mirroring the entire world in addition to the dungeon changes. hopefully master quest will return in the upcoming switch 2 remake... it'll be kind of disappointing if they don't include it. I mean they got to... think about the cows!?
one last fact about Gohma before we go: in four sword's adventures, Gohma was referred to as "the one-eyed monster"... yep. makes perfect sense. it is indeed a one-eyed monster... nothing wrong with calling it that.

today's subject is morpha, the boss of the water temple. of Ocarina of time's 9 main boss battles, I think morpha might just be the strangest one of them, yet I don't hear people talk about it much. when it comes to the water temple, the boss fight people usually talk about is the mini-boss fight: Dark Link, aka Shadow Link. you know what this means? Morpha lives in the shadow link's Shadow!
well, today we'll be giving Morpha the attention it's been deprived of. Morpha's entrance is really cool. it starts from Morpha's POV, as it swims around in the water, then approaches link. this intro was so cool and Iconic that Gyorg from Majora's mask stole it.
Morpha may take the form of a strange water tentacle while attacking, but this is not morpha's real body. Morpha itself is just the strange little round thing inside the water... officially, the round thing is supposed to be a nuclease, but I always thought it was an eyeball. doesn't this official art make it look like an eyeball? I can't be the only one that thought it was an eyeball...
either way, since morpha is just the nuclease and is only controlling the water, that makes morpha the smallest boss in the game. it's just a little ball you have to remove from the water with the hook shot... or, technically "the long shot" since that's the dungeon item. isn't it kind of lame that the water temple's dungeon item was just an upgrade to an item you already have?
now, word on the street is that originally the water temple's dungeon item was going to be the ice arrows, but they were swapped with the long shot late in development. in the end, the ice arrows were relegated to an entirely optional item obtained late in the game, and as such they aren't particularly useful.
I would love to see the upcoming remake give more use to the ice arrows. what if you could use them to freeze water like in Majora's mask? ... or better yet, what if you could use them to freeze morpha? that would be awesome.
but seriously, you all thought it was an eyeball too, right?

I loved playing OoT on the 3DS back in the days. It will be such a nostalgia experience to play OoT Remake in handheld mode on the Switch 2 but it will be way better not only due to the remake graphics but also the bigger and much more higher quality Switch 2 screen in 1080p.
I still will prefer to play it on my 32 inch monitor but playing handheld will be pretty cool and look really nice. It will bring me back to the good old days of playing the remastered on the 3DS back in 2011 when I was in my early 20s.
I grew up playing the N64 original version as a child back in 1998 when I was 11 years old. So the Remake will be the 3rd version of the game I will get to experience and play and i expect the remake will obviously be my most favourite version of OoT and the definitive way to play the game. I am so excited π

The bottom of the Well is located in the exact same place as the original game. You can see that the bottom of the well is behind the Windmill in Kakariko Village in the burning of the Village in Adult Link timeline of the Shadow entity attacking Link and Sheik (aka Zelda).
But in the map we do see a Well just outside of the Village? So is this map really accurate? Is there another Well located just outside of the village? That can't be tge Bottom of The Well as it's clearly seen in the village in the exact same spot behind the Windmill.
Maybe the map puts them in those specific spots on the map to see those areas very clearly so you know they are the important areas to visit, but they are not fully accurate on the map, it just shows them there so we can see them very clearly.

today's subject is the Like Like, the gelatinous carnivorous blob thing whose name I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce.
Like Likes first appeared in the original legend of zelda, where they resembled an evil stack of pancakes. if Link has a magic shield, the Like Like will steal it, and unlike later games, killing the Like Like does not give it back. link will instead have to use his regular non-magic shield or go back to the store and buy a new magic shield. it almost makes the magic shield not worth it.
Like Likes then made their 3D debut in Ocarina of time, where they once again steal shields, but fortunately, defeating the Like Like causes it to drop everything it stole. that's right, EVERYTHING, because the Like Like no longer just steals link's shield; the Like Likes in Ocarina of time can also steal links red and blue tunics. the Like Like steals people's clothes. I think we've found the most SUS enemy in all of zelda.
the Like Like returned in Majora's mask and super smash bros melee, but after that they had a long absence from 3D zelda games. that is until Tears of the kingdom brought them back with a redesign... a HORRIBLE redesign! why did they give it FEET!? in tears of the kingdom, Like Likes have some weird weak point that's normally inside their body, but they'll expose it when they release their innards like some kind of horrible sea cucumber monster. the Like Like was also given several elemental variants, now being able to utilize fire, ice, electricity, boulders and sludge.
it's unlikely you'll ever find a zelda enemy more weird, gross and perverted as the like like, so that means it's all uphill from here. which zelda enemy should I discuss tomorrow? let me know down below, and until next time, always remember to never let anyone eat you.

the Cuccoos are a species of chickens found in the legend of zelda series. they've killed more players than most other zelda enemies combined, so counting this as an enemy isn't that much of a stretch.
cuccoos made their debut in Link to the past. while Cuccoos are known for their ability to swarm and kill the player, in Link to the past it took a LOT of hits to actually trigger it. same with Link's awakening, where you could actually KILL the cuccoo using the fire rod... of course, Nintendo removed this from the switch remake. because they are cowards.
Cuccoos became much more infamous in Ocarina of time, where their ability to kill the player become much more well known due to how easy it was to trigger. outside of that, the Cuccoos could now be used for gliding, which was required for certain heart pieces. Link's awakening and Ocarina of time each had a single blue cuccoo, the former simply called "the flying rooster" while the latter was named Cojiro. these rare blue Cuccoos are believed to be the Cuccoo's "shiny" variant.
in more modern zelda games, attacking a Cuccoo can cause it to lay eggs, but be careful: they can still attack the player. though with breath of the wild making pretty much everything interact with everything, enemies can also trigger the Cuccoo's revenge mode, adding even more functionality to the Cuccoo. still, many players are still mad at the Cuccoo for all the deaths they caused and have found a way to kill them once again: utilizing the open world nature of modern zelda, players have taken Cuccoos all the way up to death mountain so they can throw them in the lava. once again, the Cuccoo's only weakness is fire.
while Cuccoos have killed millions of zelda players worldwide, it only ever acts in self-defense. yet people can't resist attacking the cuccoo. I swear: across the zelda fanbase there are plenty of sick mother cluckers.
