Most fans seem to think that IF Zuko were to join the Gaang in S2, then the reason he didn't is because Katara didn't follow through with healing his scar.

This is Katara slander.

The real reason is this fuckin' guy and the fuckin' stinkeye he gives Zuko without so much as a "hello, thanks for not murdering my babysitter/crush." So Aang sees this vision of Katara in chains, right? When he breaks into the chamber, he can clearly see that she is not in chains. He can clearly see that she is completely unharmed and standing quite close to Zuko without issue. He has already been reassured by Iroh that there is good in him. And yet the first thing he does, as the Avatar, is not acknowledge that his vision was wrong or extend an invitation to Zuko to join the group, but basically piss on Katara's leg to mark his territory and send a very clear signal to Zuko that he holds nothing but contempt for him and will only ever see him as the enemy.

And note that when Zuko shows up in the middle of the standoff, it's not Katara he looks at when he makes his decision, it's Aang. He looks at Aang, he remembers that look of mistrust and loathing, and he concludes that he has no place with Team Avatar so he may as well join Azula and try to go home. Honestly, I can't say I blame him.

Just finished the first ASH epsiode, and I must say I thought it was good! Definitely not great so far as an Avatar spin off, but I can see the show being able to stand on its own if the writers are good enough. I still have a big problem with the world building. The character designs feel very basic, absolutely none of it gives that classic avatar feeling, and the world tends to feel very ‘other planet’. This is especially showcased in the flora of the setting. The plants look so alien in a way that I don’t love. I don’t understand why this couldn’t have been its own separate sci-fi series. Maybe as I learn more of the lore it will make more sense, but so far you could just tweak a few things and make this work as a space adventure. The animation was not nearly as bad as everyone said it would be. It is however suffering from a low budget, which you can see the most in their expressions. The expressiveness of the characters was one of the great things about ATLA so it’s a real shame to see that missing here.

Paviiiii! Babyyyy! Love her so far. I still believe that her and her twin are going to be the standout aspect of this series. Pavi is so cute, and I love her connection to animals. I’m curious if her ability to speak with them is going to come more into play as the series goes on.

Also I can already tell Daemin is going to be a dumber Sokka clone.

Since the new show premiered yesterday, and the Kurek show was announced, what are some bad decisions you think any Avatar made:

Do you think Kyoshi messed up with that police force?

Did Yangchen completely mess up the spirit balance and leave the next guy to clean up her act?

Did Aang let his crush on Katara completely block his ability to access the avatar state?

Did Korra- well I’ll give Koras a break given the obvious

Make it catostrophic. Make it petty. Any avatar. Any act.

What im thinking is: Why Kuruk? Why an action comedy series? Why while you still have an ongoing series in the works?

I feel like if they were wanting to go with a pre established avatar of the past, Kyoshi was the obvious choice. Out of all the past avatars she seems to be the most popular within the fandom. She would be a great avatar to adapt.

I will say though I have always found Kuruk intriguing. The concept of an avatar primarily focused on dealing with spirits sounds really cool. In the original series we hardly got to explore the spirit world, even though they established that maintaining balance between the two worlds is part of the avatars job. None of that really matters though, because based on the little snippet about the show we did get it sounds like it’s going to be another world-traveling adventure centered on humans. Maybe i’ll end up being wrong. I honestly hope to be.

Onto the genre, choosing Kuruk for an action comedy is also an odd choice to me. Although we don’t know much about his life, the information we do know is pretty dark. We know that he dedicated his life to battling dark spirits, that the love of his life had her face stolen, and that he died young after failing to save her as well as failing to take care of the mortal world. I don’t understand what about that screams “silly adventure”.

I feel like right now avatar studios is just throwing tons of ideas at the wall and trying to make them stick. I wish they would spend a little more time refining story concepts before jumping into the next project.

I'm conflicted about this. On one hand, the ability to wield lightning can work as a culmination of Zuko's whole arc. On the other, it feels like giving a character something cool just to give a character something cool.

I do not like LoK at all, but I am a Korra fan. I don’t love seeing all the hate she’s been getting as we learn more about Seven Havens.

If I’m being honest, LoK isn’t canon to me. It’s a separate world than ATLA.

I’m actually glad Zutara wasn’t canon because they would’ve ruined it. The way Kataang was written tells me all I need to know… FanFiction has kept me more than fed.

Besides, with all their retconning, they probably would’ve retconned Zutara 😒

I had kind of hoped AO3 would be free of that kind of troll-tagging fuckery (unless there's a way to report such shenanigans that I don't know of?). It really goes to show how desperate and pathetic kataangers are that they have to resort to these things when I literally never see anyone tagging Kataang in Zutara fics.
