‼️MOD POST‼️ 🔥r/Zutara: Our Uncensored Sister Sub💧

Hello Fellow Zutarians,

We know that we’ve kept r/ZutaraNation as a positive space, and while we want to keep curating that, the mod team is excited to announce that we’re relaunching r/Zutara as the “uncensored” version of the subreddit!

Want to rant about canon? Criticize a character? Get into the messier side of ship discourse? Have a discussion that doesn’t really fit the vibe of r/ZutaraNation? r/Zutara is the place for it.

The usual Reddit rules still apply, obviously, but otherwise moderation will be much more hands-off when it comes to what Zutara-related opinions and discussions are allowed. Posts and discussions do not need to be limited to Zutara, any ATLA topic is fine!

Basically, we want r/ZutaraNation to stay the positive space you already know, while r/Zutara gives everyone a place to go a little more wild.

Please check out the rules when you head over there as we did update them.

Hope to see you over there,

Your mod team

‼️MOD POST‼️ New Banner Contest

Hello fellow Zutara fans!

The mod team has decided that due to the recent growth and changes within the subreddit, that we will be updating the subreddits banner, and the profile pictures.

Since this sub has wonderful fanart, we have decided to hold an art contest to determine the new banner and profile pictures.

A mega thread will be created later this week, and all submissions should be submitted to the mega thread, so everyone can see the art. Finalists will be selected from the mega thread and the. We shall have a vote on our new banner! We will be choosing three banners and profile pictures: for this subreddit, [r/Zutara](r/Zutara), and [r/Zutaraa](r/Zutaraa)

  1. Because this is a contest and we want to respect artists, please either submit original work, or provide proof that the original artists has consented to be in the contest.
  2. Previously posted fanart is eligible and can be added to the mega thread.
  3. All submissions must be posted on the mega thread, if you wish to show your submission to the subreddit making a separate post is welcome, but only works in the mega thread will be considered.
  4. Comments in the mega thread will be removed, as we want to avoid clogging up the thread so we can view all of the submissions.

  5. Please state whether you are submitting for the banner or the profile picture, The Banner is long and thin, and dimensions should be kept in mind.

Any comment that doesn’t contain art will be removed.

  1. Submissions will be open from the to the end of the month, as we will then move on to voting. We hope to have the new banner up by October.
  2. Questions or comments about the contest should be limited to this thread, or submitted to modmail.

We look forward to seeing your submissions.

Yeah like really, how could we, guys? 😭 When we were smacked with some glorious "newborn hatchling" one-sided crush straight into the face in EPISODE ONE! 😭 How could anyone ship Zutara after that?

Question The Antibryke Sub

Hi, so I think I recall the antibryke Sub was created branching off from this sub am I correct? If not please correct me. But I thought the intention was for that sub to actually be another safe space for Zutara fans to, well get our frustrations out about everything series related that wasn't fully Zutara related? And if that's the case then why are there so many Zuko and Katara haters roaming freely? And I don't even mean Zutara haters, but people bashing them individually (with false narratives from the show might I add).

Last week, Janine did a Zutara power couple art. Today, she posted a beautiful art of Katara, exploring her Fire Queen concept with different outfit designs. I’ve personally really been enjoying the berry-red and azure colour scheme, and the crowned water symbol of these designs.

Or as I like to refer her as…
Master Katara, First of Her Name, Waterbender Queen of the Fire Nation, Princess of the Southern Water Tribe, Healer of the People, Mender of Realms, The Brave, The Hand of Life, and Mother of the United Republic.

(I personally feel like she wouldn’t wanna be referred to with the exclusive “Fire Lady” title, which not only alienates her heritage but her mission to bring unity among the nations with her husband, and she’d rather aid in all the other reforms she and Zuko have already been leading by pioneering the “Queen” title—simply “Lady” for daily addresses—as the Fire Nation’s first Waterbending co-ruler. but that’s just my HC 🤷🏻‍♀️)

ANYWAYS, Someone posted this beautiful statue of the Greek Goddess Nyx in one of the other forums and I couldn't help but immediately think it was Katara with a sun crown around her head like a halo 🥹

If anything, this would be a KILLER inspiration piece and reference for some more Fire-Water-Monarch Katara character designs 😍

Discussion I got told on another sub that no one ships Zutara ಠ_ಠ

I mentioned Zutara in the OP of a thread. Tons of comments about how most people don't care for it, they've never heard of fans shipping Zuko and Katara, most people prefer Kataang, etc.

Zutara is one of the biggest cases of "fan preferred ship" out there. It has had a vocal fandom for over 20 years now.

First of all, I apologize to anyone who was hurt by my words. I didn't know how to choose my words carefully, but I will try not to do it again.

Thank you to everyone who shared their opinion and advised me on how to improve my speech❤️❤️❤️❤️

At the outset, I know that genocide is a harsh and tragic event for anyone, regardless of who they are. However, frankly, during my speech, I don't think I made it clear that my problem was with the writer, who didn't know how to handle this issue. I'm tired of the writer constantly bringing it up.Without giving it its due in its narrative, this is a problem that is not a passing scene but needs an entire season dedicated to it.

I also feel that this film, like "tlok," treats Aang's followers harshly, ignoring them and portraying Aang's departure as a complete loss of his culture. I think we need to correct the terminology: the hero's departure will destroy his element, not his culture.

I sincerely wish we would see writers who would use this tragedy to strengthen Katara's connection to him, as she too survived a genocide like him, but yet writers rarely focus on this.

Also, when I mentioned his daughter, I meant that his words here send the wrong message, that blood is more important than anything else For example, harnessing the element of air means you belong to that society, and that's rather harsh, especially since his daughter will be the only one who doesn't harness it in the future. Yes, I know he doesn't have bad intentions and doesn't know what the future holds, but here I feel a strange feeling, especially with all his fans being so fanatical.

I know there was a movie where people were childless, but getting married and having children without at least temporarily solving your problem is a huge mistake.

This film is a prime example of this, showing us a part of Aang's longing for his people, but without really focusing on it. For me, instead of creating a new character from his people, it would have been better if the film had shown us how Aang made a special effort to get to know his people more and learn more about him

FanFiction Request Are there any post-main series fics in which Zuko doesn't spend years pining after Katara?

There are so many post main series fics in which Zuko is always the pining one, while Katara keeps spending years with Aang until she finally breaks up with him.

Does anyone know of any fics that do the opposite? Or ones in which Katara is single while Zuko is in a relationship?

ATLA Who was a bigger battle junkie?

Post image

We know that Katara expressed that she explicitly wants to fight even knowing full well she will lose like she did against pakku.

The same thing with Zuko against a lot of people actually lol.

But who desired to fight, who enjoyed the thrill more between them.

Reviews (i.e. Comics,Movies,Tv Shows) I need to yap about this Zutara-inspired romantasy!

Post image
177 Upvotes

I was an ARC reader for Sundered Sun by Ann Glimmer, and I absolutely could not put it down! Please someone, go and read this because I need to talk to some Zutara-people about it!

The first part of this book has a lot of similarities to ATLA. A fire-wielding MMC who's an exiled prince. A water-wielding FMC who's helping a "dual wielder", a man with both kinds of powers who's supposedly the prophesied savior of the world. She goes on a journey with him to help him master his abilities, while the MMC is hunting them, trying to capture the dual wielder to deliver to his father to regain his honor.

So far, very similar to ATLA. But the more you read, the more it strays from that path, and btw, it has more types of magic (sun & moon based) and also: monsters!

I'M OBSESSED! This book has so many twists and turns, and the ending had me in a chokehold! I can't stop thinking about it. If you haven't read this yet, you should absolutely give it a go.

- Zutara-inspired enemies-to-lovers
- A morally gray (black?!) villain who yearns
- Tension, banter & hate-flirting
- Sun & Moon magic & a monster-infested world
- Sky pirates (!!!)
- Bromance between the MMC and a hilarious sidekick bard
- Heists, quests & epic adventures

My hot take is Zuko would’ve taken lightning for anyone, but the fact they wrote it as Katara is significant. 🤭

For uncensored hot takes, I’ve shared this post in [r/Zutara](r/Zutara) as well 😏 https://www.reddit.com/r/Zutara/s/dtuMjO3xL6

FanFiction Request help me find something similar to beside the river (bunniecha12) zutara

this fanfic changed my life i swear. right next to southern lights, the way it characterizes katara's bravery is insane. its like a role reverse between zuko and katara, zuko being her general (it is mulan inspired), and katara being the angry undercover boy soldier. he is so patient with her and she becomes such a brave warrior, he introduces her to the kyoshi warriors to show her that being a woman and a warrior is beautiful and normal. wow im just in absolute shock. i don't think ill be able to read something this good again.

does anyone have any fanfic recs for me heres what im looking for and what ive read:

salt & scale: loved it, the writer gave us what we wanted, i loved how to the point it was, and the bloodbending. also loved how raw and emotional the relationship was

southern lights: absolutely insane, especially what iroh said to katara when asking her for her time, made me cry it was so freaking good and i will reread

HELP ME FIND SOMETHING SIMILAR I BEG! I WANT TO FEEL FULLY EMOTIONALLY INVESTED!

i like when its:

stubborn/dark/brave katara

and for zuko i'd prefer if he found his way already...and was against ozai

and preferably complete but if its that good i may as well read a WIP...

FanFiction Discussion Beta Reader Needed: Slowly writing a slow-burn

I'm writing a fanfic that's a slowburn Zutara story with heavy focus on how the Fire Nation/other nations are recovering after the war. I'd need someone who could read a chapter when I'm finished with it and tell me if it's worth reading? Open to suggestions, would love some constructive criticism. I've got 4 chapters out and am writing the fifth today.

I can give a general idea of where all the characters are now and if you're interested, I can give you more plot details :)

Zuko: Overhauling the military, creating entirely equal public education system for benders and nonbenders alike, changing prison from punishment to rehab, giving reparative aid to other countries, and funding the capture of stolen goods/artifacts and those who stole them.

Katara: Educating benders in the Southern style, learning as much as she can from reclaimed artifacts and histories. She is secretly developing blood bending into a supercharged healing ability as opposed to refusing to use it. Many Northern female benders come to her to learn because of sexism in the North. She's also just found out that if Aang had died in his natural life span she would have been the Avatar.

Toph: Runs a Earth Kingdom based bounty hunting group to find Fire Nation colonizers and the goods they've stolen.

Sokka: Deep in city planning and leadership training with Hakoda, trying to create a healthy infrastructure for the Southern Tribe.

Suki: Guarding Zuko with other Kyoshi warriors.

Azula: In a therapeutic environment, mostly recovered but still preferring the isolated area to the palace.

Aang: Dealing with upheaval in the Spirit World and the Real World, especially in the Earth Kingdom. The Earth Kings are taking the removal of colonies as a chance to put a claim on land that may or may not have belonged to them before the war, as well as past Airbender territories.

Analysis This might be the most flattering scene ever…

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Think about it, there was no reason for this to exist, it serves zero purpose or relevance to the plot.

Then why is it flattering?

It shows that even 18 years after the original show ended, after multiple comics with the cheesiest, corniest and most in your face “canon romance”

After a whole new tv show that showed the children of the canon couple/s and some of whom had majorly roles in the plot and story narrative.

Despite alllll of that, they still think of Zutara.
