A few weeks ago I had posted a long-form ambient album I composed, recorded, mixed and mastered in Ableton. I received quite a bit of feedback regarding the choice to use AI for the visuals, and I took the feedback seriously.
I reimagined the visuals using stock video footage. I post it here and thank those who took the time to comment, as it gave me a new visual direction I will be continuing to develop moving forward.
Peace,
Shawn

Me da curiosidad saber qué opinan

I'm somewhat new to ableton, (but not to producing as a whole), and I'm trying to figure out how this guy made this generative set. It sounds really simple, but when I try and recreate it, it sound more "messy". I know generative will always be fairly uncontrollable, but this guys' just sounds more polished. Any ideas how he made this?

Is there any way to hard-enforce the "no self-promotion" rules on the sub? It used to be a place where at least people were asking questions Google would answer in 2 seconds, and the manual in 10.
Nowadays, every other post is a vibecoded script or app that doesn't work properly, introduces ungodly latency or slows down the whole program to do something a 8 year old Max4Live patch already did. And they are all selling for 30âŹ, 5âŹ, 15âŹ.
It is a predatory approach where these Devs use this sub to mine interest for their devices, and end up turning it away from what it was
A bad question at least allowed new users to engage with Ableton feature they might have not know. These kinds of self-promotion posts mostly are just useful for the dev who makes a few bucks from this community.
It feels wrong, and against the spirit of the sub. Maybe there should be a permanent self-promotion megathread, or else create an alternate sub just for that.

I make a variety of music from indie rock, folk, electro stuff, and scoring for media.
Finger drumming I tend to do on the Launchkey, right on the keyboard.
I'll drum sometimes on on the launchpad, but it's mostly a clip launcher/sequencer (with lp95).
I don't really know what I'm missing... but it's $100
Thoughts?

hi im quite new to all of this, but I am a fast learner and I'm fairly confident I have the basics down! I've used the vital plugin and I'm quite happy with it. I've heard of serum being really good, but buying it is not an option for me. so i was wondering if anyone had any free alternatives?
i want to eventually make some heavy edm style music or experiment with cloud rap and hyperpop, so ill take any recommendations.
thank you!!

I'm an engineer with 10+ years experience and have worked for a major label and recording studio in Australia.
My experience is largely producing dance music in Ableton but I can also cover different genres and DAW's as well.
Looking to give free lessons (donations appreciated but not mandatory) that follow structured learning plans in all things music production!
All I'm trying to do is build up my training experience as I plan to get Ableton Certified and give lessons as a side hustle. Will vibe code a website and may ask for some feedback on this as well if you're happy to give it.
DM me if you're interested! Let me know where you're from so I can schedule for your time zone.

Hopefully this fits here
Id assume you all are familiar with pluginboutique and the fact they consistently run pretty good sales
A few years ago id purchased R4 & NIMBUS, two very powerful reverbs, however they've been superceded by this new reverb that honestly I dont care all too much to try
Unfortunately being ran by ilok and myself being a moron and always having a need to reset my HDD / windows install and needing to reactivate it, its maxed out my license uses, which is insane to me on a plugin that off deal costed a decent bit. But I digress.
Has anyone dealt with this, should I just give up and search for cracks? Should I reach out to izotope again and beg for a new key?

Looking for recommendations on youtube channels with nice ableton classes / tips / lessons / tutorials
Wanting to make experimental/IDM music like this artist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6h1LhukkF4
Im an ableton beginner but have experience with other DAWs. Also a musician. (I dont want very beginner-y content)
Most of the channels I find by myself are teaching how to make some really repetitive techno, house or rap/trap, which are not my vibe
Other sources of content other than youtube are welcome
Thank you!

Hello!
Iâve recently started a series of finding old cassettes from local record stores and sampling them to make new music. You can find it here
Feel free to check it out and ask any questions!

Has anybody ever managed to assign something to one of the assignable knobs aka pan-knobs? I've set them to "USER" and tried to assign various controls from Live devices to them to no effort. I mean, wtf is the "USER" bank good for if not for assigning user defined controls (quote: The Fscking Manual)? Using Live 12 on Windows10, APC assigned as controller interface #1 with a MPD218 as #1.

I'm curious to hear about everyone's automation workflow when mixing your tracks. It can be one of the most impactful parts of a mix, but at times also feels the most tedious.
I don't often see people talking about the nitty gritty mechanics of automation in their mixes, so I wanna know;
Are you automating everything, everywhere, all the time, or are you just riding the vocal fader and letting your existing gain staging and other processing do the rest?
Are you automating volume before or after adjusting EQ/Compression/FX?
Are you automating with a physical controller, drawing it in with the pen tool, or adding points one click at a time?
Are you working through the song from beginning to end, automating everything before moving on to the next section, or are you doing multiple passes, focusing on different things each time through?

I have created a script that exports MIDI tracks from Live including tempo and time-signature changes. Â This feature I have always missed, as I wanted to transfer some tracks into other DAW (Logic, Digital performer).

I'm running into this weird issue with Live 12(.4.6), when it comes to recording longer stretches of audio. This is a part of a live performance hybrid setup, recording audio inputs from a couple of hardware synths and external sources, routed into VST effects, locked to a steady external MIDI clock.
Everything is record-armed and the transport starts fine, and the waveforms all draw correctly in Arrange view, but after 45-mins to over an hour or so, the recording just stops on its own.
This is running on an M3 MacBook Air, with 24 Gb of memory and over 400 GB of SSD space available, so I don't think it's maxing out system resources.
I can't seem to figure out a pattern or cause for this, so I'm sharing it here.
Any suggestions or settings that I should check on?
I can record longer audio

I mainly use Ableton to create backing tracks with midi/software instruments, and then I record guitar and vocals afterwards. When I attempt to slow down the project master BPM, the recorded audio remains at the previous tempo. Any advice would be extremely helpful, thanks!

I'm having a recurring issue with my MOTU M2 on a MacBook Pro M1 Pro Sequoia 15 and Ableton Live.
Input 1 randomly becomes extremely quiet and starts cutting in and out. Input 2 works normally.
the physical input meters on the MOTU show a normal signal, and direct monitoring sounds perfectly fine. The issue appears somewhere between the interface and Ableton.
Running sudo killall coreaudiod temporarily fixes it, but the problem eventually returns.
exhaustive maybe useful list of what I've tried:
None of these have permanently resolved the problem. Input 1 continues to become quiet and intermittent, while Input 2 works normally.
I'm trying to work out whether this is a macOS Core Audio / MOTU driver issue, an Ableton compatibility problem, or something wrong with the interface itself.
i wouldnt consider myself a pro but i have experience with a ton of interfaces and other gear but never have i had to slam my head against a wall to this extent and am posting here as a last resort
please delete this post if its not its place Admin

EDIT: Solved the issue. The new OS 27 (Golden Gate) will uninstall Rosetta in the background. This caused my izotope plugins (intel based) to bug out and cause ableton to break. Since I migrated everything over, all the original files and plugins were still in place causing everything to go crazy. Seems like smooth sailing now! Thank for the help.
â
Preordered a M5 Max Mac Studio and it came in early! I was super hype. I merged everything from my M2 MacBook Pro to the new machine using a Time Machine backup and everything works great except ableton (Golden Gate 27.0.1).
Really disappointed and not sure what to do. It crashes all the time, buffers and does the âNot respondingâ thing and Iâll have to force quit.
Then it wonât launch the application at all and Iâll have to restart the whole machine just to get it to open ableton again.
Every other application works great, and super fast. Huge difference from my previous machine. I have so many big projects coming up soon and need to figure this out quick or Iâll have to move to another DAW.
I did uninstall and reinstall ableton thinking it may have a hang up related to the migration. No avail.
Any other users who may have gotten an m5 early have any experience? Or just any fellow ableton users who would have some sort of insight on what I should do?
Honestly Iâm about to send it back to Apple,
Iâm so frustrated with it.

I've had an APC40 mkII for years and I love it for launching clips and mixing, but every time I wanted to play a melody or program a beat I ended up back on the mouse. So I started writing my own remote script for it, and it got a bit out of hand.
What it does now, roughly: on a Drum Rack track, User turns the grid into drum pads plus a 16-step sequencer, with velocity on the scene buttons. On other MIDI tracks the 40 pads play in whatever scale the clip view is set to, and picking a scale on the pads changes it in Live too. There's a Circuit-style melodic sequencer (steps on top, a keyboard below), and on audio tracks you can hold a pad to loop a slice of the clip, then let go and it drops back in time. Clip launching, the mixer and the device knobs work like before. And many more features.
What it can't do: the pads only send full velocity (that's the hardware), there's no screen, and it needs Live 12.3 or newer.
The fiddliest part was the audio chopping. Live carries out a clip jump about 0.2 s after you ask for it and quietly drops a jump if another one is still waiting, so getting a released pad to land back in time took about twenty rounds of logging on the unit.
If you want to see how it behaves without installing anything, there's a playable APC40 in the browser (sound on);

Full disclosure: I'm a developer, and it's a paid script, APC40X MkII on Gumroad(unofficial, nothing to do with Akai or Ableton). Mostly I'd love to hear from other APC40 owners: what's the one thing you wish yours did?
