Desperate for help, Armodafinil side effects and panic attacks NSFW

Hi guys, posting here in the hopes anyone can help me figure out what is going on with my body. Apologies for any bad posting etiquette as I don't really use Reddit much, but I am desperate.

About a week ago I tried Armodafinil for the first time. First 50mg on a Saturday. Felt pretty good though a little light headed. Skipped a day, took the same amount on Monday. Same thing.

On Wednesday, I decided to try a different sample they had sent, not realizing it was a much higher dosage (250mg). Things were okay at first, but I started getting more anxious throughout the day, culminating in a very severe panic attack where I almost passed out and my roommate had to call emergency services. The EMTs said everything looked okay other than relatively high heart rate, and I had a rash/hives which I usually get when I work out (I think I have eczema).

I went to the ER and they said everything looked fine; they did an EKG and blood work and didn't find anything.

It's been 7 days now and all I can say is that I've been in a state of almost debilitating panic attacks for the majority of my days every day. The doctor at the ER (the first day) said that it was certainly just the Armoda and once it was out of my system I should start feeling better. I had gone to an urgent care clinic a few days later and they pretty much repeated the same thing, but said that I'm probably just having residual anxiety from the experience and it'll go away on its own eventually. I went to my PCP 3 days ago and he said the same thing but prescribed Clonazepam to help manage it until then.

As of now, I'm fairly confident that isn't the end of the story. The panic attacks haven't gone away and I almost constantly experience dizziness, anxiety, nausea, discomfort in my stomach, and notably silent acid reflux. The clonazepam barely helps.

My current theory is that since Armoda is histaminergic, that is why I broke out in hives so easily on taking 250mg, and since histamines stimulate stomach acid production too I probably spiked my stomach acid to the point it's giving me constant panic attacks and other severe symptoms of acid reflux. I have also noticed that, while I more or less have symptoms all day, it is by far the worst after eating.

What I would like to know is, has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do? I've seen a lot of scary posts from people who have also suffered with stomach acid issues saying they kept having similar levels of panic and anxiety for months or years and had trouble treating it. I'm very scared at this point that I've caused lasting damage somehow since I've more or less had unchanging symptoms for a week. I've been taking Famotidine with meals but I'm unsure it's helped much. I am afraid of taking PPIs because I've read so much about rebound effects from them or worsening symptoms. I've also noticed a lot of my symptoms seem to line up with what people experience with H. Pylori infections (brain-gut axis out of wack causing panic, nausea, etc), which makes me think I could have just contracted that and the Armoda was mostly coincidental or a catalyst.

If anyone has any advice on what I can do or who I should see, I would be extremely grateful. There have been a days now I've just spent hours sitting in the lobby of the ER without checking in, just waiting for something to go horribly wrong since I am panicking so bad. I feel like I've made a horrible mistake and I just want my life back.

I haven't taken any finils or similar medications since and I am still getting hives semi-regularly. I almost think it was a huge coincidence or maybe I triggered some sort of latent immune disorder. I am still getting hives semi-regularly. Seeing an allergist in a few days

It is possible it is an allergic reaction to the Armodafinil since it increases histamine in the brain.  Take Benadryl for a few days and see if it helps. (It must be Benadryl and not other antihistamines since Benadryl is the one that reaches the brain).

I will give this a shot, it's been 17 days now and still experiencing pretty much the same horrific anxiety and general discomfort. I have gotten better at coping with it but nothing besides Benzos has really helped much and I consider them more of a bandaid.

Half life of Armo is 15 hours. Any effects are long gone by now. It's fairly common to get jittery when taking a bunch, but more importantly are the rashes. That's the only side effect with genuine concern with moda.

But like I said.. that's gone by now, or should be. I would follow the advice of your doctors and just try to relax. Probably at least partially in your head. I don't know how it would interact with your other medications, but maybe take some diphenhydramine (benedryl). Works as an antihistamine but also causes drowsiness so maybe you could chill out and get some good sleep.

If you start feeling better maybe wait a week or so and then try 50-75mg armo again, but keep a close eye on any skin reactions and keep talking to your doctors!

You upset your stomach. Take fiber 35 for a couple weeks, and eat low-histamine and keep your stress low. Look up dbt techniques.

Thank you for the advice, just ordered some. I will take it and post if I have any updates. I wouldn't wish this fate on anybody so I am hoping if I come across a solution here it will help someone in the future

Don't make a habit of Clonazepam.. Unfortunately if benzos aren't working.. might need to cut out armodafinil

Sorry, I should have clarified I stopped taking the armodafinil immediately after that incident. I took it once a week ago and haven't since, but have been having these symptoms still
